This will open up the avenue for a front to move into the Eastern U.S. on Thursday. We are expecting it to be the most steamy day this week.

A few showers possible late Thursday and mainly overnight/morning on Friday.

Severe storms are expected to produce several tornadoes, significant large hail, damaging winds, heavy rains and flash flooding across most of Texas into the Mississippi Valley.

However, the breeze builds along the coast this afternoon creating choppy to rough seas. This breeze will bring in and out clouds, but there will still be great eclipse viewing conditions!

It begins at 1:47pm with max viewing (moon will look like it’s taking a bite out of the sun) at 3:01pm. It ends at 4:13pm.

However, sun safety is key. Regular sunglasses are not enough. Make sure you have your solar certified sunglasses or pinhole projector to view the eclipse. You will also need that special filter to protect your phones and cameras to take pictures and video.

Warming Winds https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/warming-winds/ Tue, 02 Apr 2024 13:32:18 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1429586 Today promises to be warmer with winds out of the South, so highs will climb into the mid and upper 80’s. However, by tomorrow, near-record heat possible. This is due to another cold front approaching from the North. Forecast highs expected to near 90 degrees and feeling much hotter when you combine the higher humidity.

Models are showing some showers starting Wednesday night, but most of the activity happening on Thursday. It will be mainly scattered showers until the front completely clears South Florida.

You’ll notice a nice change on Friday as conditions begin to cool down. If model guidance is correct, several areas could be waking up into the upper 50’s on Saturday.

April off to an A+ start https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/april-off-to-an-a-start/ Mon, 01 Apr 2024 11:33:53 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1429161 April is off to an A+ start with mainly dry conditions. However, some changes are ahead for South Florida as high pressure slides East into the Western Atlantic Ocean. This will help temperatures turn warmer as a result. The avenue opens for another front to approach from the North with high temperatures rising to near 90 degrees on Wednesday.

What about rain? It stays dry through Tuesday, but rain chances increase to a 30% mid to late week with the next front. Models suggest it doesn’t to be a clean sweep. Clouds could lag behind with no significant cooling until the weekend.

Beautiful Days Ahead https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/beautiful-days-ahead/ Fri, 29 Mar 2024 11:57:59 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1428505 Large area of high pressure is building in across the Southeast United States behind the passage of a very weak cold front. Therefore, much drier air is working its way down the Florida peninsula. This means we will have near-average afternoon highs in the upper 70’s to low 80’s with mostly sunny skies and comfortable conditions into the upcoming weekend.

The weather will certainly be beautiful for all sorts of outdoor activities and Easter egg hunts happening. In fact, South Florida is set to experience several beautiful days ahead with no rain in the forecast and near-average high temperatures.

Changes take place mid to late next week. As temperatures rise, so will the chance of showers ahead of another weak cold front. Right now, the chance of showers is at a 20% for both Wednesday and Thursday.

Have a wonderful Easter Weekend South Florida!

Next front will move in late Thursday into early Friday producing our next best chance of seeing showers and an isolated storm. However, this system will not be a real rainmaker like the previous one.

Warming Up https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/warming-up-3/ Thu, 14 Mar 2024 11:13:24 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1422327 High pressure over the Western Atlantic is going to slowly drift East allowing for a warm Southeast wind flow to remain in place through Friday. Also, a front seems to stall over Northern Florida at the same time.

Dry conditions are expected to persist through the weekend with an isolated shower or two possible on Sunday ahead of a weak front.

However, our main focus will be on the warming temperatures. This weekend highs are set to rise into the upper 80’s with feels like temperatures in the low 90’s. Models are showing we could hit a high of 90 on Monday.

Records will be in jeopardy until the front crosses through late Monday to help temperatures get closer to average. (Typical high is 80 and low of 65)

Steady Warming Trend https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/steady-warming-trend/ Wed, 13 Mar 2024 13:36:13 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1421939 A beautiful weather pattern has been in place across the Southeast United States thanks to a large area of high pressure. It will slowly slide East and farther into the Western Atlantic Ocean. This should help winds veer more out of the South to draw up the warmth and humidity.

Temperatures are set to rise gradually and it will be feeling steamy this upcoming weekend with highs in the upper 80’s (some spots may even get to 90 degrees) ahead of a weak front. However, we are not expecting a major temperature change, but at least getting closer to average by Tuesday.

As for rain, our next chance (small chance) of seeing a few showers will be between Monday and Tuesday ahead of the weak front.

It should be dry today with only a slim chance of seeing a spotty shower with the daytime heat. Therefore, today promises to be warm and windy.

Clouds are set to increase after midnight with a slight chance of showers between 1 am-7 am as the front crosses through. Tuesday should be nice with clearing clouds and humidity levels dropping.

Some of the storms may be strong to severe and capable of producing damaging wind gusts, hail, and a brief tornado. Best chance for strong to severe storms will happen this morning through the afternoon with the first round between 9-11 am and the other one starting around 2 pm.

Also, marine conditions will become dangerous across our local waters tonight and through the middle of the week due to winds increasing and becoming gusty. Storms continue Monday as South Florida cleans up after weekend soaker https://wsvn.com/news/local/miami-dade/storms-continue-monday-as-south-florida-cleans-up-after-weekend-soaker/ Mon, 05 Feb 2024 12:41:08 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1408518 Monday’s forecasts predict strong to severe weather, including damaging wind gusts, hail and a brief tornado as South Florida attempts cleanup efforts after Sunday’s weather.

Cleanup was underway in North Bay village after a transformer exploded and scaffolding from a construction site was scattered on the ground. Despite the disruptions, Florida Light & Power crews in North Bay Village worked to restore power in the area.

Cellphone footage captured intense moments on Sunday after a transformer exploded in North Bay Village. Witness John Duncan described what he saw.

“Boats were all knocking together over there in the bay,” he recalled. “Over here, the construction site the scaffolding fell on top of the power lines.”

Power outages affected various areas, while damage was evident in Fort Lauderdale and South Beach as people dodged the rain.

All across South Florida, the heavy winds and whipping rains caused significant damage. In Harbor Island, water creeped into tenants’ apartments.

Surfside and Coral Gables faced significant cleanup efforts, with downed trees blocking streets and palm fronds scattered across roadways.

In Southwest Miami-Dade, a Miami police cruiser was struck by a fallen tree on Kendall Drive and 147th Court. More downed trees were found in the area of Southwest 167th Avenue near 96th Street.

Despite the disruptions, FPL crews in North Bay Village worked to restore power in the area.

One man described the danger he experienced after a piece of mirror broke and damaged his car.

“This piece come to my car and broke all of this part,” he said as he showed his back window. “So that’s very dangerous.”

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but some residents now face the task of repairing their cars due to flying debris.

Pattern Change Around the U.S. https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/pattern-change-around-the-u-s/ Mon, 22 Jan 2024 13:36:12 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1403118 The winds have shifted/turned and that simple switch in direction now off the ocean, will continue the warming trend along with gusty winds that are going to last most of the week.

By mid-week, temperatures are going to be back in the 80’s in the afternoon hours with hopefully more sunshine returning. Models are showing some sprinkles on the breeze possible with only a 10%-20% rain chance in the forecast.

A complete “reverse of seasons” is instore for the Eastern U.S. as a new pattern takes over allowing for rounds of rain, the flood risk to rise and potential record warmth.

After five back-to-back Winter storms, high pressure will be large and in charge with the jet stream moving far to the North. This will maintain storms systems that come from the Western U.S. moving Northward towards the Great Lakes or Canada, rather than through the South and Mid-Atlantic states.

Therefore, the chance for snow will stretch from Iowa through the Great Lakes and even into New England, while the flow from the jet stream will help moisture get pumped into the Gulf Coast states, creating a wetter pattern across the region.

Record Cold For Parts of the U.S. & Unsettled in South Florida https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/record-cold-around-the-u-s-unsettled-in-south-florida/ Mon, 15 Jan 2024 13:23:16 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1400639

An arctic cold outbreak is forecast to deliver record-breaking, frigid air to parts of the country, including the Deep South through Wednesday. The plunge of cold air has made it South through the Plains and Midwest.

It was incredibly cold weekend with a reporting station near Chester, Montana checking in with an actual air temperature of minus 54 degrees Saturday morning, while one of Canada’s Northwest territories reported a minus 77-degree wind chill, due to strong winds and accompanying actual air temperatures in the minus 30’s.

This round of cold air will migrate toward the Southeast and eventually the East coast Wednesday. Another and less powerful cold airmass should arrive in the Plains to close out the week.

Here in South Florida, temperatures and rain chances will continue to go up and down. The weather today will be dreary looking skies as a stalled front to our South, lifts North. This will lead to warmer and humid conditions to start the week with a small chance of seeing some light rain showers.

By Tuesday, the pattern remains unsettled with another front clearing Wednesday morning. However, this time around scattered showers and storms possible late Tuesday.

Most models insist this front won’t have enough of a push to clear the region and bring us a deep chill just yet. In fact, we will be stuck with clouds with more showers to close out the week. While temperatures drop a good 10 degrees and closer to average. Overnight lows will be in the mid to upper 60’s and highs will be in the mid to upper 70’s.

If models are right, an even stronger front moves Friday night into Saturday morning (dry passage) to bring chillier air. Lows on Sunday could dip down into the 50’s.

Stay tuned!

Cloudy & Dry Monday https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/cloudy-dry-monday/ Mon, 08 Jan 2024 12:55:27 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1398063 A front has crossed through South Florida and it is ushering in milder temps. and lower humidity. However, winds quickly flip off the ocean throughout today and becoming breezy.

Today and much of Tuesday will be cloudy and dry, but it will be VERY WINDY starting tonight. A Gale Watch will go into effect tonight for Biscayne Bay and offshore waters through Tuesday night. This means sustained winds could range between 20-30 mph with frequent gusts up to 40 mph possible. Also, a Wind Advisory may be required for Metro Broward and Miami-Dade.

A front is expected to move through and ahead produce a strong line of showers and storms late Tuesday into Wednesday morning. SPC has placed us under a marginal risk of seeing damaging wind gusts and an isolated tornado or two with the storms that hold together.

Clearing happens early Wednesday with pretty pleasant conditions behind the front. However, that will be brief because moisture will lag behind the front, leaving a chance of seeing scattered showers Thursday.

Wednesday washout triggers flood watch for parts of Broward, Miami-Dade; rain, gusty winds expected to linger https://wsvn.com/news/local/miami-dade/wednesday-washout-triggers-flood-watch-for-parts-of-broward-miami-dade-rain-gusty-winds-expected-to-linger/ Wed, 13 Dec 2023 21:48:54 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1390937 South Florida residents and business owners are dealing with the ripple effects from wild winds and rounds of rain that have triggered a flood watch.

The Wednesday washout has raised concerns in several South Florida communities. The flood watch remains in effect through Thursday evening for coastal and metro areas of Broward and Miami-Dade counties and is likely to be extended.

As for the winds, meteorologists expect them to remain strong and gusty until Saturday morning. They caution marine conditions will remain rough from Broward to Monroe counties.

The inclement weather is expected to dominate forecasts throughout mid-December.

On the Hollywood Broadwalk, barriers remained in place Wednesday afternoon, as passers-by encountered windy conditions along with the rain.

Crews on the Hollywood Beach have spent the past two days getting ready for the heavy precipitation.

The orange dams will hopefully prevent the sand from washing onto the Broadwalk and into the restaurants like it did in November.

“Oh, yeah, we got sand. We had to, like, clean the whole place; it was crazy,” said Julio Hurtado, who works on Hollywood Beach.

City officials said the goal is to keep the sand on the beach.

“I really like what the city is doing. I like that the city has the barriers and stuff like that,” said Tony Pazo who works on Hollywood Beach.

There’s no tool that can keep customers coming when the weather is this stormy. The skies remained gray for the rest of the day, and the customers were few.

“It’s bad weather for us. It makes business like this: empty,” said a woman who works on the Broadwalk.

After the sun set, 7News captured a desolate Hollywood Broadwalk, as the strong winds kept visitors away.

A few snow birds weighed in on the unexpectedly windy conditions.

“We were ready to cancel this morning, and now we’re stuck here for four days until Sunday,” said a man.

It was just as windy down on Miami Beach on Wednesday.

Finnish visitor Thomas Gundstrom said this is not what he was expecting to encounter.

“We came here to see the sun, and we’re from the north, where its minus 30 degrees Celsius, so this clearly – we brought the weather with us,” he said.

The high winds are keeping the 79th Street Causeway Bridge in Miami in the down position for the remainder of the week and into the weekend. The arms have been secured in place to keep them from snapping.

What’s especially worrisome for residents is the heavy rain, especially for those neighborhoods in Fort Lauderdale that flooded back in April.

“We certainly don’t want to have damage to the house again. We just got through this,” said a Broward County resident.

Pumps in neighborhoods that need it are in place and ready to go, and so are rescue crews.

Hollywood now has trucks made for the high water.

“They’ll be responding to augment the areas that we’re not able to get to, with our regular response vehicles,” said Hollywood Fire Rescue Lt. David Guernsey.

To make room for the rain, South Florida Water Management crews are lowering water levels where they can.

“On Monday, we started and basically completed lowering the water level in the regional canals,” said South Florida Water Management spokesperson Randy Smith.

It’s weather for the birds, and even they were seen taking cover.

“It’s weird, because it’s supposed to be sunny, you know, but what else can we do?” said the woman who works on the Hollywood Broadwalk. “It’s the weather; we can’t control that.”

“We’re getting a new hairdo with the wind,” said Gundstrom.

Organizers said the Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade is still scheduled to take place on Saturday, but they are keeping a close eye on the weather.

Turning Unsettled https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/turning-unsettled/ Tue, 12 Dec 2023 13:38:16 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1390302 Wind Advisory has been issued for Coastal Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade through Wednesday morning. This is mainly for those exposed waterfront areas along the Atlantic coast, since winds will pick up through the day. It will become much gustier by the afternoon with the trend continuing into the overnight hours.

After a very cool start in South Florida in the 50’s and 60’s, we will focus on the wind and rain as they will play a big role for the second half of the week. For now, there’s a stalled front to our South and we will no longer have the warmth and humidity that we had over the weekend.

Winds are expected to veer out of the East-Northeast and become stronger through the day with more typical temperatures in the mid to upper 70’s. However, the wind will make it seem cool with gusts reaching up to or over 35 mph.

Models are showing the rain likely starting Wednesday as the front lifts North. The activity could become heavy as a minor disturbance flares up (low pressure) and rides along the front, so keep in mind that the future track of the disturbance (low pressure) will determine the extent of the rain for South Florida.

Right now, we know that daily downpours are likely and we could receive better than 3 inches through Friday night.

Flooding could be an issue around coastal areas and the Weather Prediction Center has placed us under a marginal risk of seeing a heavy rain event.

An ocean breeze has helped temperatures climb to above average values to start off December and it looks like some records will be in jeopardy. Overnight lows will be in the 70’s and highs in the mid to upper 80’s this weekend.

Overall quiet weather is set to persist through the first half of the weekend. By Sunday, high pressure in the Atlantic will continue to push further away opening up the avenue for a series of fronts to move in.

The first one will be weak, but manage to bring temperatures back to normal on Monday. However, models are insisting on a stronger cold front moving in by Wednesday bringing a few spotty showers ahead and then cooler air to close out the week… Just how will the temperatures go? If models are right, overnight lows will be in the 50’s once again.

COMFORTABLY COOL for South Florida! https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/comfortably-cool-for-south-florida/ Tue, 28 Nov 2023 13:37:06 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1385600 Cooler conditions have settled behind Monday’s front. North winds will keep conditions comfortable across the region. In fact, it will be mild in the afternoon with highs in the mid to upper 70’s.

Tomorrow morning will be the coolest out of the entire week with more areas between Miami-Dade and Broward making it into the upper 50’s. Along the coast in the low 60’s with widespread 60’s across the Florida Keys.

Temperatures moderate as high pressure centered over the Gulf Coast states shifts East and eventually moving into the Atlantic Ocean later this week. This will signal a warming trend as an onshore flow returns.

Overall, it will be a gorgeous and mild week in South Florida.

South Florida Low Today
“Cooler” Changes Coming https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/cooler-changes-coming/ Mon, 27 Nov 2023 12:40:25 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1385241 “Cooler” changes are coming!

Right now, there are some reports of patchy fog around inland areas.

A warm and humid day is ahead as a front approaches South Florida. Temperatures will run a few degrees short of a record, but if the front slows down (crossing early to mid-afternoon), it could come close in Miami.

Clouds are set to increase and linger through Tuesday, which could make it hard to determine the low temperatures on Tuesday morning.

Models are going with lows in the mid 60’s for Broward and Miami-Dade and upper 60’s to low 70’s for the Florida Keys.

The coolest morning should be Wednesday with widespread low 60’s for Broward and Miami-Dade.

This is certainly the type of weather that will have us sporting a light jacket or sweater, but it is not going to be considered cold or chilly.

Mild air running about 10 degrees below normal should stick around through Thursday.

Warming trend starts Friday.

Black Friday Forecast https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/black-friday-forecast/ Fri, 24 Nov 2023 13:40:21 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1384608 South Florida a front is lifting North and a minor disturbance has flared up in the Gulf, this will increase our coverage of clouds and potential to see scattered showers today. Best chance after 2pm.

A chance continues for Saturday with fewer clouds throughout the day and pattern looking drier for Sunday. However, another weak “cool” front will be moving in early next week.

Models are not in agreement on the timing and strength of the next “cool” front, but they have been insisting at changes. Based on the latest suite of models, we are looking at a slight chance of showers ahead between Monday and Tuesday as it crosses through.

A slight dip in degrees is possible as high pressure builds over the Gulf Coast states bringing a shot of cooler air by midweek. Temperatures could be in the low 60’s to start. Stay tuned!

Have a wonderful and safe weekend South Florida!

Daily 2
https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/1384088/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 13:58:25 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1384088 Heavy rains expected in the Eastern U.S. today with freezing rain and snow possible across New England and the interior Northeast. The highest snowfall totals are expected from New Hampshire through Maine.

Also, forecast calls for moderate to heavy snows around the Northern Rockies Wednesday through Thanksgiving.

If you are traveling today, minor delays expected between the Mid-Atlantic States through the Northeast, so make sure to check with your flight carriers for any potential changes.

What about South Florida?

The front won’t have enough moisture to work with, so it should be a mostly dry and very warm day ahead.

It crosses through tonight into Thanksgiving morning with only small chance of seeing spotty showers early in the day.

Times of clouds possible, but it looks mostly dry and mild as winds shift out of the North-Northeast briefly, so if you have any sort of outdoor dinner plans, it is looking good.

The front stalls Friday-Saturday nearby, so a few additional showers possible by then.

Temperature get closer to average for a few days! Lows in the upper 60’s to about 70 degrees and highs in the lower 80’s.

Today in the Tropics: Low pressure in the Atlantic still has medium chance to form. It is no threat to the United States.

Have a happy and safe holiday South Florida. Thank you for your continued support!

Holiday Forecast https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/holiday-forecast/ Tue, 21 Nov 2023 13:09:58 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1383715 A storm system will be causing delays from the Midwest, South and East.

Low pressure and its associated cold front will move across the Eastern U.S. today through Wednesday with severe storms possible in parts of the Southeast, heavy rainfall for the South and mid-Atlantic states today. Also, strong winds could slow down travel in the Plains.

By Wednesday, the wet weather moves into the Northeast, with snow expected for portions of New England and New York.

What about South Florida? We will have a warm air flow out of the South-Southeast ahead of a weak front. Therefore, record highs possible especially in Miami on Wednesday (86 degrees).

Models are in better agreement about this weak front moving in Thanksgiving Thursday. Only a few spotty showers possible early with near-normal temperatures in the forecast. Lows in the upper 60’s and highs going down into the low 80’s.

A pre-Thanksgiving front https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/a-pre-thanksgiving-front/ Mon, 20 Nov 2023 13:23:35 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1383333 Wet weather due to an area of low pressure and front will move into the East tonight and Tuesday and will continue through Wednesday. For now, heavy rain possible for portions of the South and mid-Atlantic states Monday into Tuesday.

In South Florida, the wind increases briefly out of the East today into Tuesday introducing marine hazards and temperatures gradually warming up to near-records midweek ahead of a front.

The pattern will continue to change by Thanksgiving, as the front nears South Florida. However, models are not in agreement on how far South the front gets or even if it clears. This will ultimately increase the chance of seeing isolated showers, but not a washout for those planning outdoor dinners. Temperatures seem to get closer to normal heading into the weekend.

Wet Windy Days Ahead https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/wet-windy-days-ahead/ Mon, 13 Nov 2023 15:27:11 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1380484 It was a gorgeous warm and quiet weekend across South Florida. However, we are looking at a wet and windy week ahead.

A front nearby will bring mostly cloudy and warm conditions with only a few stray showers today. By tonight, it turns breezy due to the front hovering around South Florida and high pressure to the North around the Gulf Coast states. This should drive in a stray shower or two along the coastal communities overnight.

On Tuesday, winds will go from breezy to windy along deeper moisture moisture moving in as a low develops along the stalled out front in the Gulf of Mexico. This will help lift the front back as a warm front bringing times of showers and storms with the bulk of the activity happening between Wednesday and Thursday.

Models suggest about 2 to 3+ inches of rain possible through Thursday with drying happening over the weekend.

Today in the Tropics

Low pressure is expected to form over the Southwestern Caribbean Sea in a few days. Gradual development likely and a Tropical Depression could form late this week while it begins moving Northeastward across the West and Central Caribbean Sea.

Temperatures have been cool-ish in the mid to upper 60’s across Broward and Miami-Dade. The Florida Keys were in the low 70’s.

Winds have turned out of the North due to high pressure building across the Gulf coast states. It will be the dominant feature all week providing for sunshine and mostly dry conditions.

Only small changes happen this week with winds turning off the ocean helping temperatures slightly warm up by midweek. At best a slim shower chance, but tons of dry air will be around.

Heading into Veteran’s Day highs could be nearing records with highs in the upper 80’s, in many spots.

Happy Halloween https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/happy-halloween-3/ Tue, 31 Oct 2023 13:21:43 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1376497 The forecast is not looking too frightful!

Winds have subsided and with moisture from a low near the Bahamas, as could see some of it wrapping around and making it into coastal communities, so a small chance of seeing a coastal shower will be possible. However, most of the activity should stay around our local waters.

A weak cold front crosses through Wednesday afternoon with some “slight” cooling, but we will take it even if it is a 5-degree drop. On Thursday, we will wake up in the upper 60’s to low 70’s with highs in the low 80’s.

Winds set to increase again throughout the day on Wednesday and the rest of the week will feature a gusty breeze (wind gusts 20-30 mph). In fact, a Gale Watch will go into effect for our offshore waters and run through Thursday.

Will your Halloween weather be a Trick-or-Treat? https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/will-your-halloween-weather-be-a-trick-or-treat/ Mon, 30 Oct 2023 09:50:57 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1376162 The windy streak is coming to a close temporarily and there is uncertainty in the forecast on how much rain we will get on Tuesday.

High pressure is weakening to our North, while low pressure (Invest 96L) is getting closer to the Bahamas. NHC development chance is going down on this low. Some of it’s moisture could wrap around our way, but winds by Tuesday should veer more out of the North. Therefore, the forecast looks tricky for Halloween on whether or not we get a few showers or most of it stays offshore.

By Wednesday, weak front crosses with little to no cooling. Maybe a 5-degree drop, so for some it may feel cooler. Also, winds build again and turn gusty.

Tropics:

1. Low pressure (Invest 96L) in the SW Atlantic located a few hundred miles E/NE of the Central Bahamas continues to produce an area of gale-force winds on the NE side. However, storm activity remains disorganized and it’s moving into an area of strong wind shear that should limit development. It only has a small window of opportunity to form between through midweek.

2. Disturbance in the Eastern Caribbean Sea is expected to move Westward during the next several days and conditions seem favorable for gradual development to happen. A Tropical Depression could form late this week when it reaches the Central or SW Caribbean Seas. NHC giving it a medium chance to form.

High pressure located off the Southeast coast will provide for mostly dry conditions today. Outside of a brief passing shower, it should be a nice refreshing kind of day. However, the wind will maintain marine hazards in place.

The pattern begins to change on Sunday as high pressure weakens and an upper low approaches the area from the East. This will increase moisture levels and allow scattered showers and isolated storms to return to the forecast by the afternoon/evening.

A chance of showers continues into early next week as a weak cold front arrives Wednesday with no noticeable cooling other than making conditions feel less humid on Thursday.

If you wondering whether or not Halloween will be a trick-or-treat? Right now, it looking pretty good. A few creepy clouds and spooky showers possible with only a 30% rain chance in the forecast.

Windy Days https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/windy-days/ Tue, 24 Oct 2023 12:08:22 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1374157 Distant high pressure will be responsible for the windy days across South Florida. Today will be mostly dry with increasing winds up to 10- 20 mph with gusts of 20- 30 mph. This will create beach & boating hazards, rip currents, and high surf. Strong onshore winds to continue the rest of the week.

The National Weather Service of Miami has issued a High Surf Advisory that run through Thursday evening for Coastal Broward and Miami-Dade. About 6- 8 foot waves expected creating dangerous swimming and surf conditions with some beach erosion. Also, rip current risk is high at area beaches, which means that even the most experienced swimmers can get into trouble, so it is best to avoid swimming for a few days.

As for rain, we won’t have a ton of moisture available for the atmosphere to work with. Therefore, outside of a quick-moving shower on the breeze, it is expected to be mainly dry.

Warm & Dry to start the work week https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/warm-dry-to-start-the-work-week/ Mon, 23 Oct 2023 14:35:15 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1373827 Another warm and dry day ahead to start the work week in South Florida thanks to high pressure located over the mid-Atlantic states.

Throughout the day this distant area of high pressure will help winds gradually increase along the coast. Therefore, a quick-moving shower possible on the breeze starting Tuesday as we tap into some low-level moisture from the Atlantic.

For the middle part of the week, our main weather story will be the big breeze. Winds are set to go from breezy to windy due to a larger pressure difference taking place between high pressure and Hurricane Tammy in the Atlantic. This will funnel in strong winds along the coastline driving in a few passing showers and creating choppy to rough seas.

King tides also return this week and with a strong onshore flow, nuisance street flooding risk will be higher around the problem spots during times of high tide.

Some spots around interior areas managed to hit the upper 50’s, while most locations were in the low 60’s. The Florida Keys were in the mid to upper 60’s due to some clouds that lingered overnight.

Temperatures should bounce back into the low 70’s to close out the week with highs in the mid 80’s. However, it will still remain below average.

The weather pattern will be dominated by an area of high pressure keeping conditions mostly dry. By the end of the week, a better chance of seeing scattered showers and a few storms will be possible ahead of another weak cold front.

Broward low pressure is producing a large area of showers & storms 1100 miles to the East of the Windward Islands. it has a high chance to form. The islands should continue to monitor, but a front should help it move Northward during the next 7 days.

– Area of low pressure/disturbance in the upper atmosphere located near the Yucatan continues to draw up abundant moisture our way.

– Weak surface high pressure in the Atlantic with an onshore flow.

– Front stalling near the region once again.

This should keep the weather unsettled with on and off downpours through Thursday. Therefore, be weather aware with your Storm Station.

Therefore, several records will be in jeopardy through Thursday.

Models insist on a front stalling around North-Central Florida this weekend, increasing rain chances and dropping temperatures a little closer to normal.

Lee remains a large and powerful hurricane that has now begun to make the much anticipated Northward turn.

Rain, strong winds and high surf will impact parts of Bermuda on Thursday.

Impacts from Eastern New England and Atlantic Canada are expected this weekend. Lee is forecast to produce wind, rain and coastal flooding. Already dangerous high surf and rip currents are being experienced along portions of the U.S. East Coast.

There is a chance of seeing some showers and an isolated storm favoring inland areas and Gulf coast due to a build breeze out of the East-Northeast. By Wednesday, temperatures will be nearing-record levels with highs in the low to mid 90’s as a front moves into North Florida.

Late week a slot of drier air should limit showers from developing, but temporarily. Most models are showing deeper moisture getting trapped across South Florida with a front stalling over North-Central Florida this weekend. Therefore, it could turn wetter starting Friday.

Today in the Tropics

Hurricane Lee remains a large and powerful system over 500 miles South of Bermuda. Watches will likely go up for Bermuda later today.

Dangerous surf and life-threatening rip currents will be affecting portions of the Northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Bahamas, Bermuda, and most of the East Coast of United States through much of the week.

Great Weather in South Florida, Plus Tracking Lee https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/great-weather-in-south-florida-plus-tracking-lee/ Thu, 07 Sep 2023 10:57:44 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1356540 South Florida we’ve been enjoying great weather with a pocket of less humid air. There is only a small chance of seeing a spotty shower at best with highs in the low 90’s.

Some changes happen over the weekend with a front moving into the Eastern U.S., humidity/moisture levels rising. Rain chances will go up to 40-50%, so scattered showers return. However, there will still be plenty of dry time.

Tracking Lee

Lee is the 4th hurricane of the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

It is forecast to pass North of the Northern Leeward Islands this weekend as a powerful hurricane. There is the possibility it will reach Cat 5 status on Sunday, but with storms this intense, the eyewall replacements cycles will have it fluctuating in strength.

Right now, it’s still too soon to tell what land areas will be directly impacted by Lee, but for sure Bermuda and U.S. East Coasts, especially the Northeast and Atlantic Canada should be on guard.

Tracking Lee https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/tracking-lee/ Wed, 06 Sep 2023 11:51:13 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1355962 Here is what we know on Lee looming in the Atlantic about 1200 miles away from the Northern Leeward Islands:

On the forecast track Lee will be located in the Southwestern Atlantic over the weekend.

Tropical Storm Lee is approaching hurricane strength.

It will pass near or north of the northern Leeward Islands this weekend as an intense hurricane.

It’s far too soon to tell if this future hurricane will threaten any other land areas next week.

Interests in Bermuda, the U.S. East Coast and Atlantic Canada should monitor the forecast for next week.

Scenario 1: Quicker front and weaker high pressure would favor a track closer to Bermuda.

Scenario 2: Slower moving front and stronger high pressure would favor a track closer to the U.S. East Coast.

Persistent breeze out of the East will maintain an elevated rip current risk at area beaches.

Today in the Tropics

Tracking Gert and Katia that are expected to dissipate in the next day or so in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

Wave forecast to move off the coast of Africa has a medium chance to form once it moves near the Cape Verde Islands.

Tropical wave (Invest 95L) located a few hundred miles Southwest of the Cape Verde Islands has a high chance to form into a depression or storm midweek. It could impact the Lesser Antilles late weekend. However, track changes are likely since it has not developed yet.

Scenario 1: Strong high pressure in the Atlantic could help steer this system farther West and possibly threaten parts of the Lesser Antilles.

Nice Long Weekend https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/nice-long-weekend/ Fri, 01 Sep 2023 11:53:41 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1354251 Heat Advisory for Broward and Miami-Dade from 10am- 5pm.

The weekend will be great with typical temperatures and a building breeze. However, what will make it extra nice is the fact humidity levels set to go down due to a weak front that helped carry Idalia quickly through Florida and mid-Atlantic states.

Marine hazards possible with a breezy East-Northeast wind with some showers possible here and there.
