Alison Brie and Tony Goldwyn also rolled into town, and they looked pretty good, too.

Don’t worry, Brie happy! Alison stopped by the Regal South Beach for a special showing of her new series, “Apples Never Fall.”

She dished with Deco about having two legends, Annette Bening and Sam Neill, play her parents in the show.

Alison Brie: “It was the best! I mean, I was a little nervous to meet them both, but they are the warmest, kindest people you could ever imagine, and right away, we all really felt like a family. There was this immediate chemistry with everybody, and it just was magical, truly. Like just – they’re cool cats.”

Alison also received the festival’s Art of Light Award.

Tony got one, too. He closed out the festival with his new film, “Ezra,” which he both stars in and directs.

His greatest takeaway from making the movie?

Tony Goldwyn: “To celebrate the things that make us individuals, as opposed to – we’re conditioned to think that we should just fit within defined lanes, and I’ve really been reminded that that’s just so – the opposite is true.”

The film is very close to Tony’s heart because his best friend wrote it. You can catch “Ezra” in theaters May 31.

‘Abbott Elementary’ star Sheryl Lee Ralph receives Miami Film Fest’s Precious Gem Award https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/abbott-elementary-star-sheryl-lee-ralph-receives-miami-film-fests-precious-gem-award/ Tue, 16 Apr 2024 00:58:38 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1433988 It’s a wrap on the 2024 Miami Film Festival, but it wouldn’t be a proper SoFlo sendoff without some major star power.

Sheryl Lee Ralph hit up the 305 over the weekend.

She was in town to receive the fest’s signature Precious Gem Award. It’s reserved for people whose contributions to film and TV leave a lasting legacy.

Sheryl told Deco what the award means to her, and she even had a special message for us.

Sheryl Lee Ralph: “I look at my career now, and I’m just so very thankful that I would be presented with an award that says, ‘You are a precious gem.’ I love that. And I love Deco Drive!”

Sheryl also took part in a special presentation and spoke about her career, especially her award-winning role in “Abbott Elementary.” She says one of the most important lessons she’s learned is not to be afraid to rewrite the script of her own life.

Get a taste of Texas-style BBQ at B&D Trap in Fort Lauderdale https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/get-a-taste-of-texas-style-bbq-at-bd-trap-in-fort-lauderdale/ Tue, 16 Apr 2024 00:23:12 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1433957 Texas is known for a lot of things, and one of the best things to come out of the Lone Star State is their style of barbecue.

Foodies can get a taste of the real thing at a new SoFlo hot spot. No horse or cowboy hat needed here.

When it comes to serving up real Central Texas barbecue, B&D Trap in Fort Lauderdale isn’t just blowing smoke.

Orelle Young: “We are the first authentic Texas barbecue restaurant here in Fort Lauderdale.”

When you get here, get ready for a very tasty ride.

Orelle Young: “B&D Trap barbecue is a journey that we’d like to invite our guests on. We would like to introduce authentic Texas barbecue to South Florida.”

The dishes served up have been around for a long time.

Orelle Young: “I’d say it’s over a century in the making. You had a lot of German immigrants and families that came and opened up grocery stores and meat markets. They had to figure out something to do with their meats, so they did what they knew best. They smoke their meats.”

One trap you won’t fall into is getting your food slathered in sauce. That’s a no-no at B&D.

Orelle Young: “We eat meat because we enjoy the flavor of meat. We don’t want sauce for the same reason we don’t use hickory or mesquite: super strong, overpowering. We don’t want to cover anything up. We’re not masking anything. We want you to enjoy the meat for what it is.”

Their cooking technique will definitely rub you the right way.

Orelle Young: “We have special dry rubs. I call them our signature dry rubs. I have a special dry rub for each type of meat.”

Sauce-heads, you are not excluded. There’s some of your favorite stuff on the sandwiches. The small but mighty menu features two beers and sides like mac and cheese.

If you’re looking for ribs, get ready for a plateful of plenty.

Orelle Young: “But we’re a Texas barbecue, we had to go full-size spare ribs. We want some super meaty ribs, you’re looking at some center cuts that, I guess, sometimes weigh a third to a half-pound each. Yeah, that’s what we’re looking for: large and in-charge ribs.”

B&D is part of the revitalization of Fort Lauderdale’s Sistrunk Boulevard. It sounds like they were made for the neighborhood.

Orelle Young: “There’s parties and people smoking and grilling meats down the block that way. The same thing that way, the culture’s already here. Now we have a place for people to do less work and come and enjoy the food.”

Laura Cugno: “Absolutely amazing! The brisket melted in the mouth, and this spot is pretty dope.”

Showtime https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/showtime-386/ Sat, 13 Apr 2024 01:42:45 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1433296 The weekend’s coming up, and if you’ve got the time, we’ve got the movies. The five films on hand are all different and all extremely watchable … which should come as no surprise, because that’s how we roll on Showtime.

Kirsten Dunst (as Lee): “Every time I survived a war zone, I thought I was sending a warning home: ‘Don’t do this.’ But here we are.”

Kirsten Dunst is a photojournalist who finds herself in the middle of a second American “Civil War.” The film is a frightening look at our country if we can’t resolve our differences.

Jay Hernandez (as JB Peña): “Now, these teams, they’ve had access to a lot of things. You boys haven’t, but the best golfer isn’t the one with the fanciest clubs, it’s the one who can summon the will to keep swinging when things get tough.”

In the mid-1950s, five Mexican boys challenged the idea that golf was a white man’s sport. “The Long Game” is their true story.

Nicolas Cage (as Paul): “There are those who believe they came after the pollution that people caused, and they’re here to cleanse the planet of the human race.”

A bleak future. Monsters that only come out at night. And to top it off, Nicolas Cage in the lead role. “Arcadian” is all that — and a lot more.

Larissa Dali (as Becky): “Hello, I’m Rebecca. I’m one of your new neighbors. Everyone just calls me Becky.”

Folusho Peters (as Joy): “Nice to meet you.”

Everyone might call Larissa Dali “Becky,” but you’ll call her deadly after you check out this story of a neighbor from hell.

Simone Joy Jones (as Tanya Crandell): Morning, Mrs. Sturak. Mrs. Sturak?

Ayaamii Sledge (as Melissa Crandell): “Sweet! My first dead body.”

Miles Fowler (as Bryan): “I’m for sure going to juvie.”

“Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead” is a 2024 retelling of the 1991 big screen comedy.

Not much has changed. Mom goes away, babysitter drops dead, and the kids go wild.

Donielle T. Hansley Jr. (as Kenny): “Dishes are done, man.”

Caviar Russe in Brickell hosts ultimate monthly tasting event pairing sea delicacy with etiquette tutorial https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/caviar-russe-in-brickell-hosts-ultimate-monthly-tasting-event-pairing-sea-delicacy-with-etiquette-tutorial/ Sat, 13 Apr 2024 00:34:51 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1433249 Once upon a time, caviar was reserved exclusively for the rich and famous. But thanks to social media, everyone’s hopping on the bandwagon. Deco’s checking out a SoFlo spot that’s serving up some fancy caviar with a side of etiquette.

Martha Stewart (on TikTok): “Looks like a kilo of caviar. Thanks, Martha Stewart.”

An extravagant lifestyle means Champagne wishes and caviar dreams.

Tucked behind the big curtain of Four Seasons Miami in Brickell is Caviar Russe.

Edward Panchernikov, general manager, Caviar Russe: “We were looking for spaces in Miami, we were looking specifically for small, intimate spaces that you can really bring the caviar moment to life. When you’re enjoying something like caviar, paired with fine dining, you want that special attention and, really, a nostalgic restaurant.”

For those new to what’s considered black gold, here’s a treat for you.

Edward Panchernikov: “Everyone, welcome to Caviar 101 at Caviar Russe Miami. Cheers.”

This monthly tasting event at Caviar Russe is the ultimate beginner’s guide.

Edward Panchernikov: “It’s communal seating of 12 people. The class component is kind of like the more serious educational parts. For somebody who wants to develop their caviar palate, this is a good entry. It educates you because it shows you what caviar you might want for different occasions.”

A fun fact for people about this fish egg delicacy is…

Edward Panchernikov: “Generally biggest surprise is that they think it’s fishy or salty. It’s really more like butter.”

Smooth like butter, got it! What’s the key question to ask?

Edward Panchernikov: “The providence of caviar, where’s your caviar coming from? Not just the fish but, like, who’s farming it, what country, is super interesting, and once people are told caviar comes from different countries, then they want to know, ‘OK, who’s farming it?'”

And after the egg-citing lesson…

Edward Panchernikov: “The rest of it is just an enjoyable dinner party. It’s followed by three courses highlighting some of our classic dishes.”

Price is $250 per person, and you can experience the next one on May 15.

Edward Panchernikov: “But if you can’t wait for the next class, we are launching our martini hour on April 16, Tuesday through Saturday, where we’re going to be pairing martinis with caviar cones.”

And bar bites like this caviar empanada. So, scale from one to 10?

Alexa Santos: “If it could go beyond 10, I definitely would. I couldn’t fathom a more lavish, wonderful experience if you like caviar. If you want to feel very lavish and elevated and swanky and gorgeous, and you come in here and you’re treated like a prince or princess, and you just feel like you’re living the height of luxury.”

Billy Porter and JoJo Siwa among celebs performing at 2024 Miami Beach Pride https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/billy-porter-jojo-siwa-and-more-set-to-attend-this-years-miami-beach-pride/ Sat, 13 Apr 2024 00:24:52 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1433241 It’s that time of the year, time for Miami Beach Pride to take over Ocean Drive and Lummus Park. Which means sun, fun and love for the LGBTQ+ community.

Deco’s Alex Miranda is always proud … of his full head of hair.

Billy Porter is headlining the main stage, and one of your favorite former Bravo housewives will be cruising down Ocean Drive.

We drove on over to the Dream Hotel South Beach to feel the full Pride fantasy with our experts.

Miami Beach will be loud and proud this weekend.

Tiara Love Dupree: “Pride means everything to me, because it allows me to represent myself and be free.”

Maybe even more in 2024.

Patrick Gevas: “It’s critical that we come out and support each other as a community, but also be a visible reminder that we’re here, and we’re never going back in the closet.”

But we are going back on the streets, for Miami Beach Pride.

Famously, there’s that free parade on Sunday at noon, from Fifth Street to 15th.

Patrick Gevas: “We have grand marshals that you know and love — Billy Porter, Lisa Rinna, June Diane Rafael — that are going to be going up and down Ocean Drive in their convertibles, waving to everyone.”

But one thing about Pride: the entertainment will always be fierce.

Patrick Gevas: “We have Luck Ra coming from Argentina. We have Farina coming from Medellín, Colombia. We have Billy Porter, who is our headliner, that will performing songs from his latest album. And we also have the very first live performance from JoJo Siwa of her new single, “Karma.”

Inclusivity is at the heart of this annual event.

Patrick Gevas: “We also have our community stage, which highlights some local talent as well, we have our women’s tent for our lesbian community, and our tea tent for our trans brothers and sisters.”

Which will also honor the new Miss Miami Beach Pride, Tiara Love Dupree.

Tiara Love Dupree: “It’s just amazing to know that I’m a part of history now, and I just want to be able to be the best queen that I can be this weekend. I’m very quiet and I’m very shy, but when I get out on that stage, I’m always ready to attack the floor and do whatever it is I have to do. So that’s what makes me sickening.”

A mainstay in the city.

Tiara Love Dupree: “You could see me perform right here on South Beach at Palace Bar Monday nights, Wednesday nights, Friday brunches and Saturday brunches.”

But for now, there are bigger fish to fry.

Tiara Love Dupree: “I’m so excited. I can’t wait to see you all here on Sunday for the parade. Come out and support. See you soon.”

Patrick says get to Ocean Drive before noon so you can grab a great spot. The weather is going to be awesome but hot, so dress appropriately.

Ludacris shares big plans for new BET series, the last ‘Fast and Furious’ movie and new music https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/ludacris-shares-big-plans-for-new-bet-series-the-last-fast-and-furious-movie-and-new-music/ Fri, 12 Apr 2024 00:15:00 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1432906 Rapper Ludacris is coming for that number one spot in the box office, TV and music. The star gave Deco a little Southern hospitality by sharing his new and rather large plans.

Ludacris: “What’s going on, everybody?”

Fresh from hosting the iHeart Radio Music Awards, Ludacris is coming back to TV.

Ludacris: “Get back, get back, you don’t know me like that.”

We will know Luda like that after we watch this new series based on his life.

Ludacris: “BET. We sold them my story and my days in radio and how it started out and over the last decade, two decades, radio has just changed drastically in terms of the competitive levels of how cutthroat it used to be. So many different things about, obviously, how we play music, and life behind the scenes, like when the radio mic is cut off, what are these radio disc jockeys’ lives really about? That’s what we want to take a peek into.”

We also wanna peek into the last and final “Fast and Furious” flick.

Ludacris (as Tej Parker): “It’s showtime!”

Tyrese (as Roman Pearce): “Here we go!”

Ludacris: “Ten is definitely going to be shot next year, and I feel like it should be coming out 2026 but, you know, it’s one of those things where this is the finale. So, we gotta, all those, like everything has to come together and be right, so that’s what’s taking time, is getting the script right.”

Ludacris (as Tej Parker): “We’re talking about breaking into a police station.”

Out of all the movies from the franchise, we wanted to know, which one is his favorite?

Ludacris: “Five is still kind of my favorite one of all of them. If you just think about the screenplay and how everything came together and the surprise element, the twists and turns of that movie. We’ll see what can happen in this finale. Man, I’m hoping that we can top that.”

Announcer: “We proudly welcome to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges.”

Last year, Mr. Bridges got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, but 2025 is music to his ears.

Ludacris: “Yeah, we in the studio now, so, we’re working on new music. Next year is like a milestone year for my career in terms of the amount of years we’ve been in it, so, just reinvigoration, reinforcement and Ludacris all over again. Everything comes full circle.”

South Florida chef Mika Leon takes her talent to The Food Network’s intense new cooking show https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/south-florida-chef-mika-leon-takes-her-talent-to-the-food-networks-intense-new-cooking-show/ Fri, 12 Apr 2024 00:01:05 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1432909 One SoFlo chef isn’t just heating up her Coral Gables kitchen. Mika Leon is stirring things up on The Food Network, in a very intense new show! Deco’s Alex Miranda got the tea, or more cafecito, about the competition.

Mika owns Caja Caliente in the Gables. It’s a neighborhood favorite, known for that tamale. But does she have all it takes to compete in exhausting cooking challenges for 24 whole hours? I’m not sure. I was too busy accidentally burning her restaurant kitchen to the ground.

Mika Leon is a lion in the kitchen.

Mika Leon: “Bringing that modern take to all of my family classics.”

Owner of the Coral Gables favorite Caja Caliente.

Mika Leon: “We’re known for our Cuban tacos and Cuban flavors.”

The SoFlo chef is also heating up The Food Network.

Mika Leon: “The longer the challenges go, you know, chefs with knives in our hands. But we’re used to the long, crazy hours.”

Competing on the grueling new competition show “24 in 24: Last Chef Standing.”

Mika Leon: “I’d be lying if I didn’t say I have a little [post-traumatic stress disorder] from it.

Alex Miranda: “Trauma.”

Mika Leon: “Trauma!”

That’s 24 chefs cooking for 24 hours straight!

Mika Leon: “The hours go by, and you just get more exhausted, and you kind of get like a little foggy.”

It’s like cook ’til you drop.

Mika Leon: “It’s a series of challenges that are going to test every skill you have to have as a chef.”

Or torture, with a side of fries.

Mika Leon: “I’ve opened many restaurants, and I could say that it’s probably one of the toughest things I’ve ever done.”

Alex Miranda: “Did cafecito help? Like were you…”

Mika Leon: “I mean, that was part of the reason. I was like, ‘I’m Cuban.'”

Translation: Get her coffee, ahora mismo, and hopefully the grand prize, if she wins.

Mika Leon: “Fifty thousand dollars. You know, I could take a very nice, long vacation.”

But get this!

Mika Leon: “The competition was, like, right before I was getting married. So I was like, ‘I have to win this competition.'”

Alex Miranda: “So. Don’t tell … no, no, no, no, no. Don’t tell me that! Don’t tell me that! I know — I mean, I have two sisters — I know what that year before a wedding is like.”

Mika Leon: “Yes.”

So she stuck to what she knows best.

Mika Leon: “I really tried to make people proud of family Cuban food, Puerto Rican and Caribbean.”

Which must be easy, right?

Alex Miranda: “I mean, how hard could it possibly be?”

Mika Leon: “Excuse me! I think we should challenge you today!”

Alex Miranda: “You think I can’t.”

Mika Leon: “Do you know how to cook?”

Alex Miranda: “Well, I have poured a bowl of cereal in my day.”

Challenge: Her signature tamale in five minutes, flat!

Mika Leon: “Oh. Oh, my God.”

Alex Miranda: “Wait, what did I do wrong? What did I do wrong?”

Mika Leon: “You cracked the yolk!”

Alex Miranda: “I wasn’t supposed to do that, Mika?”

Mika Leon: “You want to be business partners?”

Alex Miranda: “Ha!”

Alex Miranda: “I don’t even know what I’m doing!”

Mika Leon: “Hey, Siri. Set a timer for 30 seconds.”

Alex Miranda: “Wait, but you have to tell me when to go! I’m so scared!”

Mika Leon: “Go!”

Alex Miranda: “Ahh!”

Mika leon: “Twelve seconds!”

Alex Miranda: “Twelve seconds!”

Mika Leon: “You forgot the fried egg!”

Alex Miranda: “Oh, the fried egg was for this?”

OK, I guess I’ll just eat my words, instead.

Alex Miranda: “So what is this looking like to you?”

Mika Leon: “It looks like it’s, you know, ready to go.”

Alex Miranda: “Ah, OK.”

Mika Leon: “In the trash.”

Alex Miranda: “Wow.”

Catch Mika Leon on “24 in 24: Last Chef Standing,” this Sunday on The Food Network, at 8 p.m.

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence walk down memory lane to celebrate 29th anniversary of 1st ‘Bad Boys’ https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/will-smith-and-martin-lawrence-walk-down-memory-lane-to-celebrate-29th-anniversary-of-1st-bad-boys/ Thu, 11 Apr 2024 00:12:59 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1432547 Well, it’s bad to the future.

Tonight, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are getting psyched up about their future “Bad Boys,” and we are psyched for it, too.

And they’re doing this all by taking us on a trip down memory lane.

We do have to wait ’til June for Part 4, but for now, Will and Martin are reminiscing about the bad times and the good.

Martin Lawrence (as Marcus Burnett): “All right, no gunshots, no dead bodies.”

Will Smith (as Mike Lowrey): “Well, if I do recall, the last couple of dead bad guys belong to you.”

Will Smith: “All right, we are here. It is the anniversary of ‘Bad Boys 1.'”

Happy 29th birthday, “Bad Boys.”

Martin Lawrence: “That’s us.”

Will Smith: “Yeah, what were you thinking in this picture?”

Martin Lawrence: “I was thinking I was Diesel. ( Will laughs) I was thinking I was Cock Diesel.”

Will Smith (as Mike Lowrey): “Freeze.”

The word “freeze” took on a whole new meaning for Will Smith and Martin Lawrence when they shot the first cop film in the franchise.

Martin Lawrence: “Coldest day in Atlanta, (Will laughing) it was freezing.”

Will Smith: “It was freezing that day, and we had to act like we weren’t cold, and that’s a hard acting job, to act like you’re not cold when it’s freezing.”

Martin Lawrence: “Not cold, and it’s freezing.”

They might not have enjoyed the cold, but they loved working with Miami director Michael Bay.

Will Smith: “It was his first movie, he had never done a movie, he had done commercials and music videos, and he just gave ‘Bad Boys’ a signature.”

And, even though it was all fun and games on the set when it came to shooting the explosive scenes…

Martin Lawrence: “Safety first (Will laughs).”

Will Smith: “Hey, when they go blow some stuff up, Marty Mar get real serious, he’s like, ‘Hey, who’s in charge? I need them to come over here’ (laughing).”

Can’t blame Martin, especially since he did get hurt filming “Bad Boys 2.”

Will Smith: “It was the ‘Bad Boys 2’ where you got the bad explosion, right?”

Martin Lawrence: “Oh, yeah, when I was running up the steps, and you was like, ‘Are you all right, are you all right?’ Because I was about to go the [expletive] off.”

Whoops, hope nobody got fired.

Martin Lawrence: “That’s us looking, just having fun, yeah, just having fun on the set.”

Will Smith: “Bad Boys ride or die.”

Martin Lawrence: “Ride or die, baby.”

“Bad Boys 4: Ride or Die” hits theaters June 7.

‘Curio’ at Miami Beach shows off cowboy fashion with the help of some top stars https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/curio-at-miami-beach-shows-off-cowboy-fashion-with-the-help-of-some-top-stars/ Thu, 11 Apr 2024 00:00:54 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1432552 Fashion divas like J.Lo, Kim Kardashian, and Beyoncé are all embracing the Western era. Deco’s digging the giddy-up getup too. We took our cues from fashionistas at “Curio” in Miami Beach. So, strap on to your saddles and check it out!

Miami is definitely not Texas. But when it comes to cowboy fashion chic.

Danielle Licata, owner of Curio: “Definitely seeing a lot trends in jean silhouettes, lasso type of leg, wide-legged jeans, rips, and all sorts of mending, which is very western.”

“Curio” at Faena Bazaar in Miami Beach is doing “Country” the 305 way.

Danielle Licata: “We’re loving the western vibes. I love how it’s combined itself with glamorous fashion. So Western’s kind of taken a twist and been a little bit more than just denim and t-shirts.”

All thanks to mega celebs like:

Danielle Licata: “A lot of celebrities have jumped on this trend, J.Lo, Kim Kardashian, Bella Hadid, obviously Beyonce.”

Get off the horse you rode in on and start with this statement head-piece.

Danielle Licata: “You can do a felt hat, which is like very traditional. Obviously in the hotter climates, people are looking for straw that they can also wear to the beach and wear also with an anytime outfit. But a lot of the hats we’re loving right now have amazing embroideries on them, whether it be novelty pins, stitching, mending details.”

And denim on denim is also making its rounds.

Danielle Licata: “They’re new silhouettes of denim that are trending whether it’s the lasso, the slash, or kind of like a more wide leg silhouette that’s very relaxed. And mixing it with leather or bustiers and kind of throwing on that denim jacket or kind of denim bowlero.”

Say “howdy” to leather, suedes, and fringe. We reckon they’ll stay and these.

Danielle Licata: “Little crop tops, the baby tees are back, graphic tees, so we’re seeing kind of that return of the t-shirt that you could also dress up with a leather pant or coated pant, something metallic, and kind of mix that vibe but definitely showing skin always.”

Accessories are also dosey doe-ing around and make a big difference.

Danielle Licata: “I think it doesn’t matter whether it’s gold or silver but definitely statement, statement necklaces and there’s a lot of love for earrings. Belts are back we have all different varieties of belts right now, skinny with a nice kind of western little detail or a very very wide that you can put over a flowy dress that can westernize things that are already in your wardrobe.”

They say the meanest human beings can sometimes be the smallest of children, on a playground somewhere, but in “Abigail,” this little girl doesn’t just look at you and call you ugly. She just might want to rip your head off instead — literally.

You thought terrible twos were bad.

Alisha Weir (as Abigail): “I’m sorry about what’s going to happen to you.”

Wait for the terrifying, blood-sucking 12s.

Kathryn Newton (as Sammy): “Guys!”

[Abigail bares her fangs.]

At least in the new horror movie “Abigail,” in which one seemingly sweet, little ballerina has more than just a pirouette up her sleeve. More like piranha fangs!

Alisha Weir: “I did watch lots of vampire, like, videos and clips, especially of them, like, snarling and growling and going in to bite, because as I had to get used to the teeth in my mouth, and then also, like, biting and making those random noises, an inhuman sound that just wouldn’t come come from, like, a human.”

Alisha Weir impressively plays this little monster…

Melissa Barrera: “It was super fun. There was a lot of clapping for Alisha after every take.”

…who a group of criminals unwittingly kidnap for ransom. Of course, at the time, they just think she’s some daughter of a wealthy man.

But when the crew retreat to an isolated mansion, they soon discover those doors lock shut … and this is no normal grade schooler.

Melissa Barrera: “It was all adults and her, but we all felt like kids, ’cause we were, you know, like, ‘What is this blood cannon?’ ‘What is this, like, fight sequence?’ Throwing ourselves.”

Melissa Barrera plays the wise and mysterious Joey, who wants more than just money.

Melissa Barrera: “Joey’s on another level, like, reading people and watching actions and very knowledgeable. She’s been through a lot, she’s seen a lot, being in the Army and everything.”

Joey uses her incredible intuition to quickly size up the morally inept, law-breaking bunch — while they last.

Melissa Barrera: “I think I am perceptive. I’m very sensitive to energies, and I feel, kind of, people’s energies, and I know who to stay away from and who, you know, I can like, you know, approach, but not as Joey.”

In “Abigail,” you’ll also watch the last performance of late actor Angus Cloud, of “Euphoria” fame, who died in July of 2023 of an accidental multiple drug overdose.

Melissa Barrera: “I mean, he was so special. He was, like, rare, you know? One of those actors that when he’s on camera, you can’t take your eyes off of him. It was a privilege to get to work with him and to know him. He was such a kind, kind soul.”

“Abigail” flies into theaters, in her terrifying little tutu, next Thursday, April 18.

Pinkies up! The Tea Room in Homestead gives locals an authentic English tea time experience, ‘Bridgerton’-themed parties https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/pinkies-up-the-tea-room-in-homestead-gives-locals-an-authentic-english-tea-time-experience-bridgerton-themed-parties/ Wed, 10 Apr 2024 01:17:22 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1432120 A brand-new season of “Bridgerton” is around the corner, so while you’re waiting for them to start spilling the tea, here’s a chance for you to try sipping the tea, at an honest-to-goodness tea room. Pinkies up!

Julie Andrews (as Lady Whistledown): “Dearest gentle reader, did you miss me?”

You must be thirsty for some tea from Lady Whistledown.

Julie Andrews (as Lady Whistledown): “The time has come for the social season.”

Character in “Bridgerton”: “Tighter!”

Nicola Coughlan (as Penelope Featheringto): “Is she to breathe, Mama?”

It’s almost time for the new season of “Bridgerton” … but you can get set for the spilling of the tea, just by sipping it.

The Tea Room is tucked in Homestead’s historic Cauley Square.

Vivian Santamaria: “Tea Room was established in 1979. It was created as a space for women to have their own areas so they could converse.”

Talking isn’t the only thing going on here.

Vivian Santamaria: “We do actually offer breakfast, we offer lunch. We have daily specials the chef comes up with.”

OK, OK, but what about the tea? Spill it!

Vivian Santamaria: “We have about, I think it’s 22 teas, so they’re international selections. Some of them are even like Nina Paris, French press, French imported teas. We have such an assortment, and we do guide our guest with that.”

The restaurant wants guests to have the most authentic English experience from the moment they walk in.

Vivian Santamaria: “We do have six different rooms, and each of them are different themes. We wanted to make sure that we had some connections to original roots of what tea is, especially because you don’t really find that in too many places down here in South Florida.”

OK, we just had to ask, has the Netflix series piqued guests’ interest?

Vivian Santamaria: “I can’t tell you how many bridal showers, baby showers, birthdays I had, actually. People wanted to do their own ‘Bridgerton’-themed party with Lady Whistledown.”

Julie Andrews (as Lady Whistledown): “If there is a scandal, I shall uncover it.”

Much like English tea time, The Tea Room is designed with peace in mind.

Vivian Santamaria: “I want them to feel like they’ve escaped the busy buzzing of Miami.”

‘Civil War,’ new action thriller from ‘Ex Machina’ director, explores what a war-torn US could be like https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/civil-war-new-action-thriller-from-ex-machina-director-explores-what-a-war-torn-us-could-be-like/ Wed, 10 Apr 2024 01:03:51 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1432126 The United States is waging a battle with itself. Well, at least it is in the new film “Civil War.” The director and cast are giving us a deeper look into the action thriller, and it’s intense.

News Anchor 1: “Nineteen states have seceded.”

News Anchor 2: “The United States Army ramps up activity.”

News Anchor 3: “The White House issued warnings to the Western Forces, as well as the Florida Alliance.”

Journalists try to survive as they cover a collapsing United States in “Civil War,” the latest film from “Ex Machina” and “Annihilation” director Alex Garland.

Wagner Moura (as Joel): “They’re moving to D.C. today.”

Kirsten Dunst (as Lee): “We need to go down there.”

Stephen McKinley Henderson (as Sammy): “They shoot journalists on sight in the capital. Every instinct in me says this is death.”

Alex Garland, director/writer: “Lots of civil wars are just disintegrations, and actually fighting as a means of not being killed, rather than fighting for a cause.”

Wagner Moura (as Joel): “You don’t know what side they’re fighting for?”

Soldier: “Someone’s trying to kill us. We are trying to kill them.”

Kirsten Dunst: “It just shows you what happens when polarization is so extreme.”

Alex Garland: “I was interested in what it is like to be risking your life to present, as much as you can, sort of objective, unbiased reporting, in the old-fashioned sense reporting, and find that the voice is silenced or ineffective within the noise of the broader context.”

Cailee Spaeny (as Jessie): “Why didn’t I just tell him not to shoot them?”

Wagner Moura (as Joel): “They were probably going to kill them anyway.”

Cailee Spaeny (as Jessie): “How do you know?”

Kirsten Dunst (as Lee): “He doesn’t know, but that’s besides the point. Once you start asking yourself those questions, you can’t stop. So we don’t ask. We record, so other people ask.”

Alex Garland: “So I wanted to put those people right in the heart of the narrative and show them as conflicted, compromised people, but performing something that requires courage and is also necessary.”

Cailee Spaeny: “I think he really relies on his audience to be intellectual and to inject their own beliefs.”

Kirsten Dunst: “But the way that Alex handled that through the eyes of these journalists, I think makes it in theory a human story, and what happens when people stop having conversations and treating each other like human beings.”

Kirsten Dunst (as Lee): “Every time I survived a war zone, I thought I was sending a warning home: ‘Don’t do this.’ But here we are.”

“Civil War” opens in theaters on Friday.

The Black Keys talk about new album ‘Ohio Players,’ new documentary and working with Beck https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/the-black-keys-talk-about-new-album-ohio-players-new-documentary-and-working-with-beck/ Tue, 09 Apr 2024 00:29:37 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1431773 The Black Keys are bringing it all back home. The superstar duo have dropped a new album and a documentary that celebrates their rise to the top of the music scene.

Patrick Carney: “I’m gonna take you to where like Dan and I started the band.”

The Black Keys’ latest release, “Ohio Players,” is a tribute to their home state.

It’s also a snapshot of what the band’s into these days.

Dan Auerbach: “I think it’s a reflection of where we’re at at the moment. We get extra extra picky about the music we’re making. We started traveling around and working with different people, you know, spinning records with different friends, and then writing songs with different friends.”

Singer-guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney reunited with their fellow musician Beck to cut some tracks, including their party anthem, “Beautiful People Stay High.”

The Black Keys (singing): “All the beautiful people say ‘hey,’ all the beautiful people stay high, all the beautiful people say ‘Hey,’ I’m tellin’ you why.'”

Making music with Beck was a no-brainer.

The boys go way back.

Patrick Carney: “Beck, who’s a guy we’ve been a fan of for a long time, and a guy who gave us our first real big break, taking us on the road 21 years ago to open for him.”

“Ohio Players” comes on the heels of the release of the Keys’ career-spanning documentary, “This is a Film About the Black Keys.”

The doc shows them starting out, jamming and recording in an Ohio basement.

Dan Auerbach: “Right away, Pat and I totally bonded over that love of recording. Dan would come over, honk his horn to wake me up, and we would make coffee, and go down and start messing around with the sounds.”

It follows their journey from two guys jamming in a basement to becoming one of the biggest bands around.

Patrick Carney: “We wanted to create a document that could demonstrate, you know, all the luck and fate and hard work that played into the band, and also show, you know, what it takes to kind of maintain a creative partnership that, you know, has this type of longevity.”

Nicole Coughlan and Lydia West play best friends on Tubi’s new dark comedy show ‘Big Mood’ https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/nicole-coughlan-and-lydia-west-play-best-friends-on-tubis-new-dark-comedy-show-big-mood/ Tue, 09 Apr 2024 00:24:27 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1431770 Bestie status is on the rocks for two best mates in Tubi’s “Big Mood.” Deco sat down with the stars, who compared sex scenes in this new series versus “Bridgerton” sex scenes. Take a peek.

Nicola Coughlan (as Maggie): “Oh, my God, you shagged Jonah.”

Lydia West (as Eddie): “What?”

Nicola Coughlan (as Maggie): “Oh, Eddie.”

Besties can smell each other’s bad decisions and also be there for all the ups…

Sally Philips (as Dr. Burrows): “You’ve been diagnosed with bipolar two, four, six years?”

…and the downs.

In Tubi’s dark comedy, “Big Mood,” Nicola Coughlan and Lydia West are lifelong friends. But their friendship is tested when Maggie, played by Nicola, becomes manic.

Nicola Coughlan (as Maggie): “We have been chatting on Tinder. For how long has it been?”

Man: “An hour.”

Any real-life experience with app dating?

Nicola Coughlan: “I have none. I’ve never done it.”

Lydia West: “Oh, I have.”

Nicola Coughlan: “Have you?”

Lydia West: “And actually, the bar which Eddie runs, it’s called Big Mood, it’s a real-life pub.”

Nicola Coughlan: “No, it’s called Wet Mouth.”

Lydia West: “Sorry.”

[Nicola laughs.]

Lydia West: “My God, I’m so sorry.”

In the show, Maggie throws a disastrous dinner party, but the actress actually enjoys hosting one in real life.

Nicola Coughlan: “I love to cook for people. I love having people at my house. But, yeah, we once had a dinner party where I fell asleep at the table.”

Lydia West: “Did you?”

Nicola Coughlan: “Yeah, oh, yeah. You weren’t there. You were away. Yeah, yeah, I fell asleep on the table.”

Lydia West: “That’s so funny!”

Woman: “C’mon guys.”

Lydia West (as Eddie): “Oh, my God.”

Woman: “I’m his wife.”

Nicola Coughlan (as Maggie): “Can you please tell your kids to stop filming me?”

Nicola shows a little skin in the series, but how does it compare to season three of Netflix’s “Bridgerton?”

Nicola Coughlan: “I was filming ‘Bridgerton’ and ‘Big Mood’ at the same time for, like, three weeks, and the sex scenes in ‘Bridgerton’ were scary and intimidating, but like, you know, a big part of the show. But then, by the time I had to do one in ‘Big Mood,’ I was like, ‘This is fine.’ I was far more clothed in ‘Big Mood’ than I am in ‘Bridgerton.'”

Lydia West (as Eddie): “You’re a nightmare.”

Nicola Coughlan (as Maggie): “But you love me.”

Lydia West (as Eddie): “But I love you.”

Molly Ringwald discusses enduring screen career at Miami Film Festival, receives Creative Vanguard Award https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/molly-ringwald-discusses-enduring-screen-career-at-miami-film-festival-receives-creative-vanguard-award/ Tue, 09 Apr 2024 00:06:05 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1431776 The 41st Miami Film Festival is underway here in SoFlo, with tons of movies, documentaries and special presentations for everyone to enjoy.

That means that tons of celebs are in town … like Molly Ringwald. She was honored with a special award over the weekend.

The festival teamed up with Variety to present Molly with the Creative Vanguard Award. It’s in honor of her incredible, decades-long career in film and TV.

Deco caught up with the actress at the event, as she looked back at her iconic roles in John Hughes’ movies and reflected on re-watching them now.

Molly Ringwald: “You never really know if a movie is gonna sort of take off or have an impact, but I knew that I really liked the movies, and I really thought that they were special. It’s been really interesting. I mean, it’s interesting to see the way that they’ve aged really well in certain ways, in other ways not. But the films still really hold up.”

Molly was joined on the red carpet by her teenage twins.

You heard it on Deco first on Friday, but she reiterated that this was the first award she’s ever received.

From farm to table, to spicy creole, check out upcoming food festivals in Miami https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/from-farm-to-table-to-spicy-creole-check-out-upcoming-food-festivals-in-miami/ Sat, 06 Apr 2024 00:53:08 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1431131 Hope you’re hungry because there’s no shortage of food festivals coming up this month. From farm to table, to spicy creole, there’s something for every foodie to enjoy.

It’s all about food glorious food and drinks at the Las Olas Wine and Food Festival.

Jodi Tanner: “It’s all about getting those fantastic restaurateurs together. The streets will be closed off so it’s gonna be free reign in the streets with all those fantastic tents to taste some amazing wine, some amazing food.”

With over 40 restaurants and 200 wine and liquor to choose from, this one-day event has something for everyone.

Jodi Tanner: “We’ve got Americano food, we’ve got Italian food, we have Asian fusion food, it’s just something really for of age people, but it’s for everyone to come out and really enjoy the beauty of Las Olas.”

And it’s for a good cause.

Jodi Tanner: “It also helps out an organization which is the American Lung Association.”

Here’s some food for thought. Pop over to the Miami Creole food festival on Lincoln Road.

Chef Thia: “It’s really the culture, getting to come, get a taste of everything, the African, the Latin American, the Caribbean.”

Casa Matilda’s Chef Thia will be front and center at the festival, and can’t wait for you to taste her creole chicken breast.

Chef Thia: “It’s a little fusion about the Haitian culture, the creole chicken with a little bit of the rice.”

Food isn’t the only thing on the menu.

There’s a side dish of music and entertainment, too.

Eat, drink, and be merry at ‘the slow food Miami: Snail of approval tasting party’ at the Eden Roc Miami Beach Resort.

Whew, that’s a mouthful.

Michele Benesch: “Snail approval recognizes the chef that sources local sustainable goods, clean, fresh food.”

Talking about mouthfuls. Chew on farm-to-table dishes while helping out the local economy.

Michele Benesch: “We want to source local so that we’re supporting our local farmers.”

While that’s amazing the best part about the festival is the money you spend, it benefits the Slow Food Miami’s Edible School Garden’ Program.

Miami Film Festival returns for its 41st anniversary with top stars and amazing films https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/miami-film-festival-returns-for-its-41st-anniversary-with-top-stars-and-amazing-films/ Sat, 06 Apr 2024 00:43:40 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1431130 Film festivals give movie fans the chance to check out some cool movies, sometimes even months before their official release, and lucky for us, the Miami Film Festival kicks off tonight with tons of movies, shorts, and documentaries. You name it, they got it. And you know what else they got? Tons of star power! Deco chatted with some of the celebs who’ll be making their way to the 305 throughout the festival!

Lights! Camera! Soflo!

The Miami Film Festival is celebrating its 41st anniversary!

James Woolley: “Miami Film Festival is back! It’s one of our biggest years. We’ve got so much talent in town, so many amazing films to see.”

Big is putting it lightly!

James Woolley: “This year we’ve got 110 different programs that are happening all across the city.”

Danny Pino (as David): “You come here to cause problems and point fingers. Now is not the time!”

The festival marks a happy homecoming for Miami’s own Danny Pino!

Danny Pino: “I was born and raised in Miami. I was raised in Westchester. Went to Rockaway and then Coral Park High School and then FIU, so I did the Miami circuit.”

Danny wrote, directed, and stars in the bilingual short film, “Union of Kings. It’s about a son confronting the secrets of his father’s past back in Cuba. The actor tells Deco, shooting the film here was really important.

Danny Pino: “It’s a Miami story. Miami is a character in the film. So to be back home and presenting it to a home audience, it feels right in many ways.”

Robert De Niro (as Stan): “You want me to put him in a special needs school?”

Bobby Cannavale (as Max Bernal): “Jenna knows I’m broke.”

Robert De Niro (as Stan): “She knows you’re still not over her. A man your age shouldn’t be living with his father.”

Also hopping into the director’s chair this year: Tony Goldwyn! He helms the movie, “Ezra” starring Bobby Cannavale, Rose Byrne, and Robert De Niro. The film was written by Tony’s friend, and it explores a comedian’s relationship with his autistic son.

Tony Goldwyn: “The genesis of it was really being able to tell a version of my best friend’s story and bring it to the screen and us kind of do this together as an expression of our friendship.”

Tony says he can’t wait for SoFlo to see it.

Tony Goldwyn: “The audience in Miami is gonna be a really wonderful one. I’m very grateful to be closing this Miami festival with our film. That is the best thing that could have happened.”

Not every actor is showcasing a movie. Molly Ringwald will be here to receive Variety’s “Creative Vanguard” award!

Molly Ringwald: “It was totally unexpected and really nice. I mean, I love Miami. I think this may be the first award that I’ve ever received.”

She’s being honored for her extensive career, which includes those iconic roles in films like “Pretty in Pink” and “The Breakfast Club.”

Molly Ringwald: “I had no idea that people would still be talking about them now. I didn’t know that I was making these classics. But I definitely knew that there was something special about them.”

The Miami Film Festival runs through April 13th. Other celebs like Tom Hiddleston, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Alison Brie will also be in town for awards.

Showtime https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/showtime-385/ Sat, 06 Apr 2024 00:10:35 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1431129 Action. Drama. Thrills. And even a little love. Sure, you can find all that and more every night right here on Deco, But if you’re looking to fill the void this weekend, have no fear. Lynn Martinez shows us how this week’s Showtime packs a real punch.

Dev Patel (as Kid): “Just one small ember can burn down everything.

Sobhita Dhulipala (as Sita): “Make them remember your name.”

No monkeying around here. Dev Patel means serious business in the new action thriller “Monkey Man.” The actor, who also co-wrote and directed the film, plays a guy who’s hunting down the men responsible for his mother’s death. Now, he’s using his fists to enact revenge.

Charithra Chandran (as Amelia): “I want to experience things before we finish school, and I haven’t kissed anyone.”

Sebastian Croft (as Archie): “Popular people go for popular people.”

All’s fair in love and war, especially in high school. In “How to Date Billy Walsh,” a pair of childhood friends named Archie and Amelia decide to revamp their image.

But, as she falls for the new transfer student, she has no idea her bestie has always had feelings for her. Ooooo, the drama!

Nell Tiger Free (as Margaret): “There’s this girl at the orphanage. I think that she really needs someone to look out for her.”

Things are getting dark and sinister in “The First Omen.” A nun working in Rome accidentally uncovers an evil plot involving the birth of the Antichrist. Now she’s got to protect the orphan girl at the center of it all from the church itself.

Lynn Collins (as Louise Quinn): “Dawson, you deserve to know.”

Scott Reeves (as Larry Quinn): London was an in-vitro baby. We couldn’t get pregnant otherwise.”

Lynn Collins (as Louise Quinn): “The procedure gave us two embryos.”

And you thought your family had secrets! In “Someone Like You,” a grieving guy goes searching for his best friend’s secret twin after her tragic passing. But tensions rise as the two start falling for each other.

Voice over the radio: “The mystery of the obscene little Hampton letter is causing widespread distress across the nation.”

A little dirty talk never hurt anybody, but in “Wicked Little Letters,” some cheeky mail is making everyone clutch their pearls.

Olivia Colman thinks Jessie Buckley’s character is the potty-mouthed anonymous author. But there’s more to this mystery than meets the eye.

Savor SoFlo, 2-day culinary competition, returns with Deco’s Alex Miranda as judge https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/savor-soflo-2-day-culinary-competition-returns-with-decos-alex-miranda-as-judge/ Fri, 05 Apr 2024 01:58:13 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1430714 Savor SoFlo is back on the sand this weekend, and judging the culinary competition this year is our very own foodie, who loves to eat and drink, Alex Miranda. But what makes him qualified to be a judge at this savory event? We got down to the bottom of his tasteful résumé to see if he’s the right fit.

The party’s on at Savor SoFlo this weekend. But first, let’s get the pronunciation debate answered.

Tammy Gail: “Depends on who you’re asking. It is ‘SAY-vor’ SoFlo, but we have a lot of clients that call it ‘Sa-BOR,’ and I like that, too. We answer to anything.”

This two-day festival all goes down on the sand behind Margaritaville Resort.

Tammy Gail: “We take up a significant 30,000 square foot right on the beach, with the backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean, and nothing but great food, wine, beer and spirits. One of the fun components of the event is the cooking stage.”

This is where chefs throw down their best dishes to get the Savor crown. Diplomat’s Prime Restaurant in Hollywood is in the mix for the first time.

Jorge Negron: “All the chefs we know around have been talking about it. We’re excited to be a part of it. Showcase what we do here at the Diplomat. We’re going to be serving Creekstone Farm-braised short rib. We braise it for four hours, then it’s served with a celery purée, with potato, just to kinda balance all the flavors.”

Judging this year is…

Tammy Gail: “We’re super excited to have our dear friend Alex Miranda from Deco Drive. We’ve had Lynn there, we’ve had Belkys there. This year is Alex’s chance again. I mean, he didn’t really do a lot of these competitions, but he was so into the food.”

We know Alex loves food, but let’s ask his close friend Ryan.

Ryan: “He’s a really cool guy. He’s funny. I’ve known him for a little over a year now.”

Shireen Sandoval: “He’s going to be judging at Savor SoFlo, at a cooking competition, this weekend.”

Ryan: “It’s a cooking competition? Alex?”

Alex Miranda: “I think I’m becoming very qualified for Savor SoFlo. Right?”

Ryan: “You made mac and cheese. We have to test your ingredient skills.”

Alex Miranda: “Construction paper.”

Ryan: “He made toast once.”

Alex Miranda: “What was wrong with it?”

Ryan: “Everything.”

Alex Miranda: “Is this the ‘Dune’ popcorn bucket? It’s going to be a banana.”

*buzzer sound*

Alex Miranda: “I know what I’m doing. I’ve learned from Gordon Ramsay.”

Chef Gordon Ramsay: “Alex, you [expletive] nightmare.”

Alex Miranda: “Mika Leon.”

Chef Mika Leon: “It’s ready to go.”

Alex Miranda: “Ah, OK.”

Chef Mika Leon: “In the trash.”

Ryan: “And he’s going to judge this?”

Alex Miranda: “I’m going to eat that food, judge those chefs, after the free alcohol that comes with the ticket.”

Alex Miranda: “Is this an old pizza slice? (eating) It’s definitely a pizza.”

Ryan: “Yeah. Is there anyone else that can judge at Deco?”

Alex Miranda: “Somebody’s gotta do it.”

Ryan: “Can we?”

Alex Miranda: “Somebody has to do it.”

Tickets start at $105.

Reconnect with your childhood at ‘Disney Princess: The Concert,’ coming to Broward Center https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/reconnect-with-your-childhood-at-disney-princess-the-concert-coming-to-broward-center/ Fri, 05 Apr 2024 01:34:04 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1430707 A dream is a wish your heart makes, at least according to Cinderella, and we’re on the same page when it comes to shoes. If your dream also includes a night of music, you’re in luck! There’s a fun concert coming to town this weekend that’s a real royal affair.

They’ve taken us to new heights, and under the sea.

And this weekend, Disney’s iconic princesses and their musical fairy god-fairy are taking over the Broward Center.

Benjamin Rauhala: “It’s sort of a cross between almost a Broadway show and then almost like the Disney Princess Eras Tour.”

Disney Princess: “‘The Concert’ brings the animated characters you know and love to life on stage, with the help of some Broadway divas.

Like SoFlo’s own Syndee Winters.

Syndee Winters: “I played Nala in Disney’s ‘The Lion King’ on Broadway, and I am celebrating Princess Tiana, Princess Merida, Queen Anna and Queen Nala.”

Syndee Winters (singing): “But I’ve climbed the mountain and crossed the river, and I’m almost there.”

Now, the show is not your typical concert experience.

Syndee Winters: “We get to have a 40-foot giant LED screen that plays the animations in the back while we sing some of these songs.”

Syndee Winters, Alyssa Fox, and Hiba Elchikhe (singing): “Let it go, let it go, and I’ll rise like the break of dawn.”

Alyssa Fox and Hiba Elchikhe are also joining the princess party.

Hiba Elchikhe: “I think that everyone can connect to Disney music generationally, right? So I think there’s something in it for everyone.”

Alyssa Fox: “It’s so amazing getting to connect with audiences in different cities, so we’re excited about joining you over there in Florida.”

And the best part is singing along.

Syndee Winters: “To get to be able to sing this music with the audience and, like, put the mic out and let them sing.”

Benjamin Rauhala: “You are all in the show with us. We love to hear you sing.”

And dressing up is encouraged.

Alyssa Fox: “It’s a really incredible thing to know that you can wear a gown and wear sparkles and wear a crown, even.”

Hiba Elchikhe: “Yeah.”

Alyssa Fox: “And still feel like a strong warrior.”

Jason Aldean, HARDY and Lainey Wilson headline 2024 Tortuga Music Festival on Fort Lauderdale Beach https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/jason-aldean-hardy-and-lainey-wilson-headline-2024-tortuga-music-festival-on-fort-lauderdale-beach/ Fri, 05 Apr 2024 01:26:34 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1430718 Music sensations are about town in Fort Lauderdale this week for Tortuga Music Festival. This multi-stage, head bobbin’ party features some of the biggest artists. Lainey Wilson and Bret Michaels are among the stars serenading you by the ocean breeze. Our “hold my beer and watch this” guy, Alex Miranda, is on the scene.

Tortuga Music Festival is finally here. It is food, it’s beach, it’s drink, and it is, of course, music. For country music fans, it features a treasure trove of a lineup.

Rock The Ocean’s Tortuga Music Festival…

Chris Stacey: “Actually, I have a little mid buzz going because of the energy around here.”

…is coming at you way faster than a turtle. It starts Friday, y’all.

Chris Stacey: “The last couple of years, we only offered three-day tickets. For the first time in years. you’ll actually be able to get single-day tickets.”

Seaside in Fort Lauderdale. The three-day event, thru Sunday, is ready to get your hips a-movin’, with headliners Jason Aldean…

Chris Stacey: “He’s a future Hall of Famer.”

…HARDY…

Chris Stacey: “Puts on one of the best shows in the music business.”

…and CMA Entertainer of the Year Lainey Wilson.

Chris Stacey: “Fresh off of sweeping wins at the Grammys, I mean, she’s the hottest thing in the game right now.”

Plus more.

Chris Stacey: “You start going down this lineup, it is deep. It’s TLC, it’s Boyz II Men, it’s Old Dominion, Koe Wetzel.”

With all the food and drink you could ask for.

And returning is that VIP pool.

Chris Stacey: “We’ve got lifeguards that will be here all weekend, and you can hop right in the pool.”

Alex Miranda: “Am I going to see you in there, or no?”

Chris Stacey: “Listen, I;m not exactly in pool body shape right now, but maybe by the end we’ll have a celebration dive.”

Alex Miranda: “After your beer.”

And Next from Nashville Stage will spotlight 15 talented, up-and-coming artists.

Chris Stacey: “Our fans seem to love it, and I’m super excited this year.”

But, with Beyoncé’s acclaimed “Cowboy Carter” album topping the charts, country music seems to be everything, everywhere, all at once.

Chris Stacey: “That album is incredible. I had that album on in my office this morning, and I was crying to myself a little bit. We actually tried to get her here, and it didn’t quite work out, because she’s a busy lady. She’s fantastic.”

Alex Miranda: “For Tortuga 2025, Beyoncé, we’re saying it right now, it’s happening!”

Chris Stacey: “Stranger things have happened.”

Tortuga celebrates ocean conservation.”

Chris Stacey: “Whether it’s turtles or sharks or coral reefs, all the thought leaders in those areas are here. Enjoy a great show, but then leave a little smarter about ocean conservation. A portion of the proceeds of this show every year go back to the Rock the Ocean Foundation to help save the seas.”

Longines Global Champions Tour brings Olympic-level equestrian show jumping to Miami Beach https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/longines-global-champions-tour-brings-olympic-level-equestrian-show-jumping-to-miami-beach/ Thu, 04 Apr 2024 01:51:33 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1430347 The best in show of nags is at Longines Global Champions … and by nag we mean horses, not your mother-in-law.

The tour takes place across 15 countries, with a premier stop in Miami. Showing us the proper way to horse around is our local stallion, Alex Miranda.

Jump, jump, horse around.

Guest 1: “It’s horses and fun in the sun.”

On the Longines Global Champions Tour.

Jan Tops: “We have 16 events, unique locations, the best riders in the world competing.”

Returning to the United States for its eighth year.

Melanie Gleeson: “We have come all the way from Australia, with our rider, Chloe!”

Alex Miranda (to Chloe): “So, how are you feeling?”

Chloe: “Amazing.”

Considered the F1 of show jumping, it brings Olympic-level equestrian sport right to Miami Beach.

Jan Tops: “There are the core fans, they know exactly the technical part, but also for people who come here for the first time. It’s always spectacular to see horses jump in elegance.”

Georgina Bloomberg is competing.

Georgina Bloomberg: “Our team, the New York Empire, is here. It’s only our second event of the season, but we’ve got a great group.

Alex Miranda: “Is Dad coming to watch, by any chance?”

Georgina Bloomberg: “He’s not; he’s been before to watch. I’m just coming back from having my second son, so I’m not really doing anything too exciting.”

So is Natalie Dean.

Natalie Dean: “Our team is the Iron Dames. We won the first event in Doha, so we’re really looking forward to this week and trying to keep that leap.”

Riders compete to gain points in the overall Championship season battle.

Guest 1: “Not only is the diversity international, but the people that you meet, everyone is so in tune with just getting to know one another.”

Melanie Gleeson: “We love Miami; it’s the trip of a lifetime.”

Alex Miranda: “Is it better than Melbourne or…?”

Melanie Gleeson: “Aaah, like who?!”

So, come for a real wild ride.

Alex Miranda: “We have a pink Lambo. Hey, that ain’t bad. The Iron Dames own this one, an all-female endurance racing team, and I’ve got to say, if any car were a Deco Drive car, it would be this one.

It’s ffour days of sun, sea, and … VIP.

Alex Miranda: “You’ve got food – oh, cheese, I love cheese.

Drinks…

[Bartender puts three jumbo-sized bottles of Portofino Dry Gin together.]

Bartender: “So now it shows the entire block, actually.”

Alex Miranda: “And now it’s home decor.”

And the best view in the house for Olympic-level equestrian show jumping.

And one thing you will never do without here is the time. They’ve got it all over the place.

Buy your ticket, or watch for free along the shore.

Georgina Bloomberg: “It’s quite unique in that way, so we do hope to get people who don’t know much about it, be able to walk by and see the horses and hopefully get interested in our sport.”

Alex Miranda: “I’m sure you’re seeing them in their bathing suits, and you’re like, ‘Why am I here? No, I need to go jump in the water.’ No? Does that cross your mind every once in a while?”

Georgina Bloomberg: “It absolutely does, when we’re wearing our heavy jackets.”

Right by the W Hotel.

Alex Miranda (toasts with bartender in straw hat): “Life is good, right on the beach. Now let’s go horse around. We’re winners, baby.”

Tickets start at $350.

nightLAB, an adults-only experience at Frost Science, hosts ocean-themed night https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/nightlab-an-adults-only-experience-at-frost-science-hosts-ocean-themed-night/ Thu, 04 Apr 2024 00:38:55 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1430319 Expand your grown-up senses at the nightLAB inside the Frost Science in Miami. Happening Thursday night is an exclusive after-hours experience for adults only. So let’s geek out and grab a drink.

OK, so picture a museum with no kids running around.

Alec Warren, Frost Museum director: “That’s really the key to this whole night, is that it’s 21 and up. Adults only. No kids.”

Downtown Miami really comes alive at night. But what to do if you’re a mad scientist at heart?

OK, let’s not bring Frankenstein’s monster back to life.

But you can geek out at Frost Science in Miami and check out nightLAB.

Alec Warren: “Being able to drink, have alcohol, have food in a museum without any other children around, this is the first time we’ve done something along those lines. We are Miami’s science museum, after all, and that means we want to serve everyone, including adults without kids, or adults looking to get away from their kids for the night.”

This quarterly event has different themes every time.

Alec Warren: “April 4th is going to be all ocean-themed. We have space-themed events going on later in the year, and even some spooky science in Halloween.”

These big kids appreciate an adult beverage while watching the show.

Elizabeth Ho-sing-loy: “Yes, the drinks definitely help. Makes it a more enhanced experience.

With your ticket you get…

Alec Warren: “Tickets start at $34.95 for adults. That’s general admission. That gets you the planetarium experience, as well as full access to the entire museum and all the experiences. When you enter, you’re going to be greeted with a food and beverage cart. You’re also going to be greeted with a DJ in our ocean gallery.”

Now, if you’re not about looking up, they have fun options, too.

Alec Warren: “Even if you don’t necessarily want to come see an amazing, unique planetarium show, you can still come hang out underneath the oculus. Or see any of our amazing exhibits.”

Kerron Lettman: “All of the fun of the museum, no kids, and alcohol.”

Taylor Smith: “Yes, so far so good. We took the Brightline down to beat the traffic and enjoying everything thus far.”

‘Cuban Cowboy’ Orlando Mendez talks about his career and influences ahead of Miami-Dade CountryFest https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/cuban-cowboy-orlando-mendez-talks-about-his-career-and-influences-ahead-of-miami-dade-countryfest/ Thu, 04 Apr 2024 00:18:24 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1430318 From Miami to the heart of country music, local musician Orlando Mendez is making waves with his soulful tunes, and the music is good, too. In fact, it’s so good that Deco just had to sit down with the rising star at Sergio’s in Doral to get a feel of the musician ourselves.

Orlando Mendez (singing): “So baby hold me tonight. So that I won’t be lonely.”

Miami native Orlando Mendez is heating up the country music scene.

Orlando Mendez (singing): “Some people tell me I’m fine, some people say they don’t know me anymore.”

Orlando Mendez: “I’m a hometown kid from Miami with a big heart and a big love for music.”

A love that Orlando says began years before he stepped into the limelight.

Orlando Mendez: “I always imagined I would be entertaining. You know, since I was a kid I’ve been singing. I’ve always known I wanted to be on a stage, in front of people, touching lives and entertaining.”

And touching lives is exactly what he does on stage. In fact, his fans feel so connected to him that they even gave him a nickname.

“Cuban Cowboy is kind of like a nickname. I got it during a show one time playing here in Miami. I heard someone call from the crowd ‘Cuban Cowboy,’ and I was like, ‘Dang, I kind of like that,’ so it stuck.”

And it’s not just because of the way he sings.

Orlando Mendez: “I guess, you know, how I dress, the boots, and the style in which I sing and play. It made sense.”

But singing the country blues wasn’t always in his plan.

Orlando Mendez: “Well, I was an actor before I was a singer. I had a short stint in acting between Miami in New York, and then, once the pandemic hit, I got into music.”

Orlando credits Hootie & the Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker as his inspiration.

Darius Rucker (singing): “I wanna love you the best that I, the best that I can.”

Orlando Mendez: “I first started listening to Darius Rucker, and I remember hearing some of his songs. That song, “Dolphins Make Me Cry,” had been like an anthem for me, so he was like my gateway, and then I found a bunch of other country artists that I love.”

Orlando’s newest single, “Motherland,” is an ode to his Cuban roots.

Orlando Mendez (singing): “The island where I came from, that’s still a part of me.”

Orlando Mendez: “‘Motherland’ is real close to my heart. It’s my family story, the story of my connection to Cuba.”

You can catch Orlando on April 21st for the Miami-Dade CountryFest. Square dance over to get some tickets.

Deco checks out Sandspur Island, also known as Raccoon Island, for all-day tour https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/deco-checks-out-sandspur-island-also-known-as-raccoon-island-for-all-day-tour/ Wed, 03 Apr 2024 01:46:13 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1429849 Some people call them trash pandas or sneaky bandits, or moon puppies. Raccoons are everywhere in South Florida.

The furry creatures even have their own island right here in Miami and you can visit them. Alex Miranda is on a three-hour tour of Raccoon Island where the furry creatures run wild! What’s up, Alex?

Alex Miranda: “You know that I love raccoons, and Louie the Raccoon just became our Cadbury Bunny, an international celebrity at this point, but yes, you are right. The island behind me is filled with bridled raccoons. For some people, maybe that’s not a good thing. For me, it’s probably my wildest fantasy.”

Sandspur Island.

Kim Boxer: “There’s a lot of wildlife between birds, the raccoons, and you also see dolphins.”

AKA Beer Can Island.

Kim Boxer: “When you do come here, fon’t leave anything behind.”

AKA…

Alex Miranda: “Wait, wait, wait, oh.”

Land of the Raccoons.

Alex Miranda: “We actually found our first raccoon.”

Is a spoil island, which is part of Oleta River State Park and just west of Haulover Beach. Here, wild raccoons roam free.

Alex Miranda: “I am obsessed with raccoons. I follow several on Instagram.”

Kim Boxer: “They’re very curious to see what you’re doing, and then ultimately, they want the food.”

And pampered pooches, but that’s beside the point.

Alex Miranda: “You are the cutest animal on record. See, I knew you knew that.”

We hopped on a Vanquish.

Kim Boxer: “These are the crème de la crème. These are hand-built out of all aluminum, around $4.1 million each.”

Oh, that little thing?

Kim Boxer: “Five thousand dollars for four hours plus tax and tip, but for a $4.1 million boat.”

Alex Miranda: “That’s a steal. Let’s be real. I mean…”

Kim Boxer: “It really is.”

Alex Miranda: “Get enough friends, and you just split the cost, you’re gold.”

Kim Boxer: “Correct, and you’re allowed up to 12 guests.”

Through Breezo Marine Luxury Yacht Charters and Experiences.

But, if you want to full-on Nat Geo experience…

Alex Miranda: “Welcome to Nat Deco, where we show you the wildlife of South Florida. Directly in front of us we have a real-life wild raccoon on Raccoon Island. This raccoon is fabulous.”

Don’t come empty-handed.

Kim Boxer: “Keep your little bit of distance, just enough for them to get the food, or put the food on the floors.”

Alex Miranda: “The thing is I really want to hug them. I really want to cuddle a raccoon.”

And like clockwork…

Woman: “We saw one over here not too long ago and one a little farther back in the woods off the trail.”

Alex Miranda: “So, but you’re given up and starting to eat that watermelon.”

Woman: “No, absolutely not.”

Alex Miranda: “I see otherwise.”

Woman: “It was very cute. It had a little brown furry tail.”

Alex Miranda: “Were they one of the chunky ones?

Woman: “Um, no, he was a little on the thinner side.”

On a really…

Woman #2: “Raccoon hair right there.”

Alex Miranda: “Is it dead?”

Woman #2: “Hopefully not.”

…really slow clock.

Alex Miranda: “Have you seen the movie ‘The Blair Witch Project?'”

Girl: “No.”

Alex Miranda: “Don’t.”

Bingo.

Alex Miranda: “Oh, I see it. Oh, it’s kind of big old butt. Adorable little smoke muffins.”

Woman #2: “Amazing. This is my dream.”

Girl: “It was really cool.”

Alex Miranda: “OK, well she thought it was cool. You were scared?”

Man: “I was scared.”

Alex Miranda: “That’s really pathetic.”

I’m taking home nothing but memories and Lola. Wait, whose dog is this again?

Alex Miranda: “Wow, Lola. That was quite the adventure. Do you want to come back to Raccoon Island? OK, as long as there’s no raccoons.”

Now, of course, you don’t have to charter a yacht to come see Raccoon Island for yourself. You can paddle, you can kayak, you know, do the normal simple things. But I have liked, I must say, this billionaire’s boat. So if you want to charter it, click here.

South Florida’s own Gabriel ‘G-Rod’ Rodriguez talks about acting in ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die’ https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/south-floridas-own-gabriel-g-rod-rodriguez-talks-about-acting-in-bad-boys-ride-or-die/ Wed, 03 Apr 2024 00:33:54 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1429851 Funny guys Will Smith and Martin Lawrence came and went to film “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” right here in the 305.

That was so fun, those road closures.

One cast member who stayed is Gabriel “G-Rod” Rodriguez. Well because SoFlo is his home.

Deco got down and dirty with the actor to give us the exclusive on the action flick, at least we hoped.

Martin Lawrence (as Marcus Burnett): “C’mon Mike slow down.”

“Bad Boys: Ride or Die” kept the Miami spice going.

The action movie filmed everywhere in SoFlo. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence sightings hit all over social media.

One local bad boy you might also recognize in the flick is Gabriel “G-Rod” Rodriguez.

Now the actor is pretty easy to track down, he loves his ice cream at “Spiked Rich Nitrogen” in Davie.

So tell us everything G-Rod, tell us.

Gabriel Rodriguez: “Very excited about “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” that’s coming out in theaters June 7 (whispers) not much I can say.”

What about the meaning of the title at least?

Gabriel Rodriguez: “It’s like you’re my guy. You’re my ride-or-die. You’re my ride-or-die. You guys, Deco Drive is my ride or die.”

Very true! So spill the tea.

Gabriel Rodriguez: “(acting out fight scene) Phew, yeah that’s everything about the movie.”

Just kidding, he’s very tight-lipped but getting the call from the director was like.

Gabriel Rodriguez: “‘You want to be in the movie?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, I want to be in the movie. What is wrong with you? Yes!’ He was like ‘alright this is all you have to do, just grow everything out.'”

Then the filmmaker told him the inspiration for the character, “presidente.”

Gabriel Rodriguez: “I came across a picture of President Salinas from Mexico and don’t show a picture of him…don’t do it.”

Gabriel Rodriguez: “His vision was Presidente Salinas and 55-year-old me version of him. And of course, I’m not 55. Of course, 25. That’s on my Tinder profile right now. Swipe right.”

One profile “Grey’s Anatomy” fans would swipe right on is Eric Dane’s.

Gabriel Rodriguez: “My boss in the movie, which is McGrath, who is played by Eric Dane. It was interesting to see him, my boss in the film you know bad guys, to see him play a bad side because he’s a total sweetheart, heartthrob in ‘Grey’s Anatomy.'”

Returning to the scene is Vanessa Hudgens as Kelly.

Gabriel Rodriguez: “I put my whole body through it. You guys are gonna see what I do for the love of the art. This is what I do for you guys. Agh, sheesh, my back is…gimme a second. Ugh!”

The cast of ‘Wicked Little Letters’ discuss the mystery behind finding the secret mailer https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/the-cast-of-wicked-little-letters-discuss-the-mystery-behind-finding-the-secret-mailer/ Wed, 03 Apr 2024 00:07:05 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1429844 These days, getting something other than a bill or spam in the mail can feel pretty special. But in the new movie “Wicked Little Letters,” the snail mail in question is real naughty! Deco’s having escargot with the cast, oh I mean, we’re getting cheeky with the cast!

A little dirty talk has everyone going postal in the new British comedy “Wicked Little Letters.”

Hugh Skinner (as Constable Pappewick): “Dear Edith, you foxy-ass old ***\.”

carry on.”

The hunt is on to find the mysterious mailer. Olivia Colman’s “Edith” suspects Jessie Buckley’s “Rose.”

Olivia Colman (as Edith Swan): “She’s heinous.”

Jessie Buckley (as Rose Gooding): “Edith, I didn’t do it.”

But there’s a true twist that even surprised the cast and director!

Thea Sharrock: “When I read it the first time, I had no idea that it was based on a true story.”

Olivia Colman: “And then halfway through going ‘No!’, going back to the front cover, realizing ‘Oh my god, it’s real!’, and giggling.”

Olivia Colman (as Edith Swan): “You’ve got a daughter at home. Why would I risk it all?”

Anjana Vasan plays “Gladys,” a police officer determined to get the truth.

Anjana Vasan: “I think Gladys is a great bridge actually between the two characters, there’s a bit of Rose and Edith in her.”

Anjana Vasan (as Gladys Moss): “I’m not standing for it.”

The film takes these characters on a wild ride but it’s all about balancing fun.

Olivia Colman (as Edith Swan) “Oh, would you return my pettipants before the trial next week? Just in case I don’t see you for a long while afterward. ‘ta.”

With character development

Thea Sharrock: “Edith is such a complex character, and the journey she goes on and, as you say, where she starts and where she ends up is, that arc, if you like, is really the story that you follow.”

Olivia Colman: “I love that it becomes about female friendship at the end and, you know, using their own wit and instinct to, to help.”

For Olivia, the film was also a chance to work with Jessie. The two have been friends for years but have never acted together.

Olivia Colman: “One moment in particular in the, in the middle of the square, where Jessie and I were both rubbish. We really struggled to keep it together.”

Jessie Buckley (as Rose Gooding): “You look like [bleeped] Queen Victoria shoved a [bleeped] Nettle up her [bleeped].”

Olivia Colman: “We swear at each other for free all the time, but it was nice to be paid to do it.”

Meat Moot in Brickell serves up mouthwatering Texas-style BBQ with Turkish flavors https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/meat-moot-in-brickell-serves-up-mouthwatering-texas-style-bbq-with-turkish-flavors/ Tue, 02 Apr 2024 01:33:18 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1429450 Get ready to sink your teeth into something extraordinary. We’re talking about the food at a new restaurant in Brickell called Meat Moot. If you couldn’t tell by the name, this place is a mouthwatering heaven for meat lovers. As the carnivores say, bring on the meat!

At Meat Moot…

Jordan Altarawneh: “It’s all about the meat.”

And the Texas-style barbecue with Turkish flavors.

The name definitely fits its definition.

Jordan Altarawneh: “‘Moot’ is Arabic slang we use. It means ‘to die for.'”

At this restaurant, diners have their choice of seven different cuts of smoked beef or lamb.

Jordan Altarawneh: “Our meat is cooked differently than other restaurants. We keep it for 16 hours under charcoal; it’s cooked very slowly.”

Here’s how it works. First you head over to the ordering station.

Jordan Altarawneh: “”You order your meat and the size that you want it.”

Ten comes the show, and let me tell you, it’s lit.

Jordan Altarawneh: “We use the fire for the show to make it, like, fun.”

The restaurant even allows you to taste the meat before you place your order.

Jordan Altarawneh: “This is a good idea we had [because] you are not going to order something that you don’t know.”

Once you’re all set, your server will bring it right out.

Kyanna Concepcion: “The food came out immediately. Everything was super fresh; the meat tastes so tender, it falls off the bone “

While the focus is on the meat, for some, it’s all about location, location, location.

Kyanna Concepcion: “I really love the fact that it’s indoor and outdoor, so, with the Miami weather, I’m having a nice lunch with my girls. It was amazing.”

Sheila E.: “Really excited about it. Like, this is going to be crazy.”

Sheila can’t wait to hit the stage with her dad, Pete Escovedo.

Sheila E.: “No one can match up me playing with my dad, no matter who and how popular. My dad is, like, number one, he’s the man.”

The drummer is also getting help from friends like Tony Succar and Gloria Estefan.

Gloria Estefan: “We will be rocking the house with Sheila E. She’s going to have an amazing night presenting her record ‘Bailar,’ of which I’m a part of.”

Sheila E.: “The initial idea was to try to get as many of the artists that performed on my record, and I wanted to do it here in Miami. It’s special because I recorded 90% of the record here. The vibe is just, it’s dance, it’s like, put on your dancing shoes.”

And, when it comes to songs…

Celia Cruz (singing): “Pa’ mi, tú no eres na’. Tú tienes la Bemba Colorá.”

Sheila E.: “‘Bemba Colorá’ is a famous Celia Cruz song, and I always wanted to do a song of hers.”

Gloria Estafan (singing): “Pa’ mi, tú no eres na’. Tú tienes la Bemba Colorá.”

Sheila E.: “Gloria Estefan is the only person I could think of to sing that song, paying homage to an incredible queen, Ms. Celia Cruz.”

Sheila’s version of “Bemba Colorá” is the first single from her album.

Sheila E.: “It’s like a perfect time to bring in salsa with different elements, which is Bay Area, Oakland, a little bit of the funk element, a little bit of Creole in there, and it’s just that mixture with that, with salsa. It’s a new little flavor, you know.”

Dev Patel makes feature directing debut and stars in action-packed thriller ‘Monkey Man’ https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/dev-patel-makes-feature-directing-debut-and-stars-in-action-packed-thriller-monkey-man/ Tue, 02 Apr 2024 00:27:12 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1429423 Talking about someone’s mama is asking for a fistful of hurt, and in the action thriller “Monkey Man,” Dev Patel goes berserk looking for his mother’s killer. Deco’s Alex Miranda isn’t monkeying around with this report.

They say revenge isn’t the right answer, and that might be the case when Peter, from sales, steals your lunch from out of the break room work fridge. (I know it was you, Peter.)

But when somebody messes with your mom, the newbie director says, “Ooh! Ooh! Ooh!”

Irrfan Khan (as police inspector): “Doctors, lawyers, never get beyond 6,000 rupees. This is 10 million. What can a slumdog possibly know?”

Dev Patel started as a “Slumdog Millionaire,” but now, he’s “Monkey Man.”

Sobhita Dhulipala (as Sita): “You need to fight, for all of us.”

Dev plays a masked fighter on a mission to avenge his mother’s death, and he’s willing to punch through bodies upon bodies to do it.

Dev Patel, actor/director: “I love mixed martial arts, I love the [Ultimate Fighting Championship], I love boxing. I have the huge respect for those guys, these sportsmen that put their body on the line. I hope those guys watch this film, and they tip their hat to it and go, ‘Yeah, he’s trying to represent us here in a cool way.'”

And represent he does. Not only is he the star, but it’s also his debut as director.

Dev Patel: “I poured all of myself into this.”

He really did. Dev broke his hand, two toes and tore his shoulder.

Dev Patel: “Don’t try and jump through a double-glazed window, ’cause you’ll bounce off it.”

This action-packed film has its funny moments.

Pitobash (as Alphonso): “I call her Nicki … Minaj. Big bumper, nice headlights.”

But the nonstop fight scenes all around India were mesmerizing to the actor.

Dev Patel: “Yeah, it’s sort of precise chaos, isn’t it? You know, that’s what I wanted to try and do. It’s like trying and find the claustrophobia and the manic-ness of what real violence will feel like, you know, the concussive nature of it all.”

Catch “Monkey Man” in theaters starting this Thursday.

Beyoncé goes country on 8th album ‘Cowboy Carter,’ collabs with music legends https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/beyonce-goes-country-on-8th-album-cowboy-carter-collabs-with-music-legends/ Mon, 01 Apr 2024 23:06:04 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1429413 Welcome to the Wild, Wild West, and I don’t mean that movie with Will Smith. This ain’t Texas, it’s Florida — the Sunshine State — and we’re livin’ that rodeo country life, thanks to Beyoncé’s brand-new album, so stick around, round, round, round, round, because Queen Bey is taking us all on the wildest ride in the wilderness!

Beyoncé (singing): “This ain’t Texas. Ain’t no hold ’em.”

Saddle up! This may not be Beyoncé’s first rodeo.

Beyoncé (singing): “Sixteen carriages drivin’ away while I watch them ride.”

But the new release “Act II: Cowboy Carter” is her first country album.

Beyoncé (singing): “Gadsden, Alabama, got folk down in Galveston, rotted in Louisiana.”

“Cowboy Carter” is Queen Bey’s Second Album in the Renaissance Trilogy, and her eighth overall.

Beyoncé: “We wanna welcome you to the Beyoncé Cowboy Carter Act II.'”

It wouldn’t be a real hoedown throwdown without a little extra star power.

Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus (singing): “Smoke out the window, flying down the 405.”

Miley Cyrus joins Beyoncé on the song “II Most Wanted.”

Post Malone (singing): “Need you all night long. You’re my Rennaisance.”

Post Malone gets a feature on “Levii Jeans.”

Willie Nelson: “Now, for this next tune, I want you to sit back, inhale and go to that good place.”

Even the legendary Willie Nelson makes a special appearance.

But perhaps the most anticipated collab of all…

Dolly Parton: “Hey, Miss Honeybee, it’s Dolly P.”

…comes from the queen of country music herself, Dolly Parton. She lends her voice to the “Dolly P” interlude, which leads listeners into Beyoncé’s take on the iconic song…

Beyoncé (singing): “Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene. I’m warning you, don’t come for my man.”

While Dolly’s version has her pleading…

Dolly Parton (singing): “I’m begging of you, please don’t take my man.”

…Bey is firing off a warning to back down on hers.

Beyoncé (singing): “The games you play are nothing new, so you don’t want no heat with me, Jolene.”

And Dolly is loving it! She posted on Instagram, “Beyoncé is giving that girl some trouble and she deserves it.”

Beyoncé (singing): “Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene. Don’t take the chance because you think you can. You’re beautiful, beyond compare. Takes more than beauty and seductive stares to come between a family and a happy man.”

In “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” the gigantic creatures work together to fight off a colossal threat hidden deep within the planet.

Steve Martin: “The people who like it are wise and intelligent people, and the people who don’t are ignorant scum.”

Johnny Carson: “Right.”

Steve Martin: “You liked it, didn’t you?”

Johnny Carson: “Oh, yes.”

He’s a wild and crazy guy. Steve Martin’s taking fans on a deep dive into his life and career in the docu-series “Steve! (Martin) a Documentary in 2 Pieces.”

Mike Tyson (as Chief Burroughs): “This guy from Colorado, I’m putting him in with Rut.”

Aries Spears ready to bring his raw and uncut brand of comedy to Fort Lauderdale’s Parker Playhouse https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/aries-spears-ready-to-bring-his-raw-and-uncut-brand-of-comedy-to-fort-lauderdales-parker-playhouse/ Sat, 30 Mar 2024 00:51:50 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1428731 These days, we’ll literally take any opportunity to laugh.

I know I will, at anyone’s expense.

Comedian Aries Spears is coming to South Florida, which means there’s gonna be plenty of chances to bust a gut.

Aries Spears: “Hey, yo, one, two, three and to the four, Snoop Doggy Dogg takin’ condoms out the door.”

Aries Spears is bringing his unique brand of comedy to Fort Lauderdale’s Parker Playhouse next weekend.

He’s ready to tell you what’s on his mind.

Aries Spears: “I try to stay a little bit topical in terms of what might be going on in the news.”

The funnyman really isn’t worried about being politically correct. He figures folks can make up their own minds about what’s funny.

Aries Spears: “People want to be able to make adult decisions on their own. I think we’re all capable of being able to do that.”

Times change, and so does the stuff he wants to talk about.

But Aries’ style is gonna stay the same. He knows what works, and he’s sticking with it.

Aries Spears: “Growing up as an ’80s baby, and coming from that era, I don’t know how to do anything else but stay true to the formula.”

One thing everybody can agree on: Aries does some dynamite impressions.

His Jay-Z is spot on.

Aries Spears (as Jay-Z): “Hova, homie, I told ya, the game’s over.”

Pushing the envelope comes naturally to Aries Spears. If you make it to his gig, you’re in for one heck of a ride.

Aries Spears: “Dave Chappelle said, ‘You don’t know where the line is in comedy until you cross it,’ George Carlin said, ‘You should know where the line in comedy is and deliberately cross it,’ and then Patrice O’Neal said, ‘Great comedy leaves half the audience laughing and the other half horrified.’ I live by those three credos.”

Aries Spears hits the stage at The Parker Playhouse on Friday, April 5.

Finding this shiny oval prize at Arlo, Wynwood’s adult Easter party, will make you hop.

Miami Beach hair stylist shows the latest TikTok-inspired styles going viral https://wsvn.com/uncategorized/miami-beach-hair-stylist-shows-the-latest-tiktok-inspired-styles-going-viral/ Fri, 29 Mar 2024 00:14:05 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1428356 Life is too short to have boring hair. We all know that in SoFlo. TikTok is a big go-to for inspo.

We asked a Supercuts expert in Miami Beach to show us some favorite dos, so do take a look.

TikTok video: “This is what it looks like completely styled.”

Awe, how cute! TikTok hairstyle trends are all the buzz.

But which ones are worth trying? Miami Beach Supercuts pro Mayelin Castillo has some pointers.

Mayelin Castillo: “Hair trends are always changing in TikTok, but what I see more now is the bubble braids, the slick bun, heatless curls, and also the butterfly cut, which is layers.”

OK, let’s start with bubble braids.

Mayelin Castillo: “I’m going to part the hair in sections. This is the first section. Little rubber band, and I’m going to put it tight. Before you go to the next, it’s important to take the middle part and take it out a little bit.”

So gel, tie, pull and repeat.

Mayelin Castillo: “Buns are in either high bun, middle bun, low bun, depending on where you’re going and how you feel. We part it a little bit in the middle.”

And it’s all in the brush strokes. Pull and pull all the hair back, until..

Mayelin Castillo: “You make sure there is no bumps, then you take the softer side, just to make sure there is no little hairs coming out.”

Smooth and shiny, just how we like it. Then you twist and tie.

And, for that natural body, try using these bendable curlers.

Mayelin Castillo: “It’s basically just putting it on and in the morning taking it out. So just make sure the ends are in.”

Once you wake up, and remove, you’ll have an instant bounce. You’ll want a professional to get this butterfly effect.

Mayelin Castillo: “The butterfly cut is long layers. So, basically, long hair, and then it goes from short to long.”

Fabulous. One of the hardest things to do in SoFlo with the humidity is to have a good hair. Good thing TikTok saved the day.

Rudy Mancuso and Camila Mendes, Prime Video’s ‘Música’ stars, explain how their unique story came to life https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/rudy-mancuso-and-camila-mendes-prime-videos-musica-stars-explain-how-their-unique-story-came-to-life/ Fri, 29 Mar 2024 00:02:01 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1428349 Rudy Mancuso is taking his YouTube talents to the big screen in the new movie “Música.” His real-life girlfriend, Camila Mendes, from the 305, stars in the film, too. The duo came to SoFlo on Thursday to tell Deco how they brought the unique story to life.

Francesca Reale (as Haley): “I also think that maybe there’s a world where you can put all this creativity towards a stable job, or something more consistent with actual money.”

Rudy Mancuso (as Rudy): “I’m sorry. What?”

Internet personality Rudy Mancuso wrote, directed and stars in his new film, “Música.”

Rudy Mancuso (as Rudy): “Mom?”

Maria Mancuso (as Maria): “What?”

Rudy Mancuso: “It was a dream come true. It was, for me, the only way to tell this story. It’s a really personal story, and I knew I had to wear all the hats if I wanted to tell it authentically.”

He plays a somewhat fictional version of himself in the semi-autobiographical movie.

Rudy Mancuso: “I’ve been very vocal about how autobiographical it is, so coming to terms with that, and also getting to a point where I was able to portray the story very honestly. I mean, we’re following a character who makes a lot of poor decisions.”

Rudy has synesthesia, a phenomenon that causes sensory crossovers. For the musician, it means hearing everyday sounds and turning them into beats.

Rudy Mancuso (as Rudy): “For as long as I can remember, everyday regular sounds, I turn into rhythm.”

Rudy Mancuso: “The best way into the synesthesia perspective was not using a drum or a piano or a guitar necessarily, but spoons, forks and brooms and cars.”

Miami’s own Camila Mendes plays Rudy’s love interest, Isabella. But she didn’t do any research for the role, because they’re dating in real life.

Rudy Mancuso (as Rudy): “I’m Rudy.”

Camila Mendes (as Isabella): “Isabella.”

Rudy Mancuso (as Rudy): “Isabella, prazer.”

Camila Mendes: (as Isabella): “Prazer.”

Camila Mendes: “I love that Isabella is very in the moment, very grounded, and I feel like she’s a very positive person. She brings a lot of light into Rudy’s life. I like that she really feels like the first person to see him and really accept him for who he is.”

The couple, who are both Brazilian Americans, had a blast speaking Portuguese on screen.

Camila Mendes: “I’ve never been able to speak Portuguese in a movie before, and you haven’t, either, I’m assuming?

Rudy Mancuso: “Yeah, it’s not an opportunity that arises very often.”

Camila Mendes: “Yeah.”

Rudy Mancuso (as Rudy): “Just give me a second. I’m sorry. Let me just talk.”

The film starts streaming on Prime Video on Thursday.

Kim Kardashian sinks her claws into sassy ‘American Horror Story’ role, as ‘Delicate’ returns to FX https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/kim-kardashian-sinks-her-claws-into-sassy-american-horror-story-role-as-delicate-returns-to-fx/ Thu, 28 Mar 2024 23:52:39 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1428366 Kim Kardashian is getting into character. “American Horror Story: Delicate” returns to FX next week, but before that, Kim’s dishing with Deco about her favorite parts of playing a not-so-nice person.

Kim Kardashian: “We’re shooting our campaign for ‘American Horror Story,’ and I’m so excited to see this vision come to life and turn into this character.”

Kim Kardashian is ready to sink her claws into the second half of “American Horror Story: Delicate.”

Kim Kardashian (as Siobhan Corbyn): “I’m gonna give you the life of your dreams. What would you give up for it?”

Emma Roberts (as Anna Victoria Alcott): “Anything.”

Kim is back as Siobhan, Emma Roberts’ bestie and publicist.

Kim Kardashian (as Siobhan Corbyn): “What in the literal hell are we doing here?”

The premise of “Delicate” revolves around Emma’s character, Anna, trying to have a baby via IVF.

But things quickly take a dark and sinister turn. Sounds heavy.

So, unwinding after filming was essential.

Kim Kardashian: “I take a bath with these bath bombs that Emma gave me. These, like, lavender CBD bath bombs, and I just watch something light until I fall asleep.”

“Light” is pretty much the opposite of Siobhan. She definitely means business.

Kim Kardashian: “The character of Siobhan is definitely like a boss.”

Kim Kardashian (as Siobhan Corbyn): “You’re just famous now, and sometimes it blows.”

Kim Kardashian: “That’s so me in some ways. I really connected with her on that. I don’t want to say I connect with everything about her, but that side, I definitely can.”

Kim Kardashian: “We have to maintain boundaries, and this is one you don’t wanna cross.”

If the character seems a bit familiar…

Kim Kardashian: “I did notice that a lot of people were saying, ‘This is Kris Jenner,’ and at the time, I wasn’t thinking Kris Jenner. But now that I look back, full Kris Jenner.”

Kim Kardashian (as Siobhan Corbyn): “So let me know now. If there’s no joy in this job for you, I can help you fill out an application to work at Costco.”

Sassy one-liners like that let her really have fun with the role.

Kim Kardashian: “My favorite Siobhan one-liner from ‘Part One’ has to be when she would just say, ‘Ugh, it’s exhausting being better than everyone else.'”

Kim Kardashian (as Siobhan Corbyn): “It’s exhausting being better than everyone.”

Kim Kardashian: “Sometimes you’re just like, ‘Why can’t everyone just get [expletive] done.'”

Kim Kardashian (as Siobhan Corbyn): “I need you to get it together.'”

Emma Roberts (as Anna Victoria Alcott): “I can’t!”

[Siobhan slaps Anna.]

Kim Kardashian (as Siobhan Corbyn): “I will not let you say another word about quitting.”

“American Horror Story: Delicate Part Two” debuts on FX starting Wednesday.

‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ stars Hall, Henry and Stevens discuss blockbuster monster brawl https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/the-stars-of-godzilla-kong-the-new-empire-discuss-the-blockbuster-monster-brawl/ Thu, 28 Mar 2024 01:22:08 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1427971 People often look to their leaders for guidance, but when our world seems more divided than ever, we can learn something about adversity from someone else we look up to. You won’t believe who it is.

King Kong and Godzilla. Sure, they’ve hated each other forever, but in “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” their feud is finished. It’s all kumbaya — monster style.

When it comes to playing with Godzilla and Kong, size does matter. Same with big blockbuster monster brawls.

Brian Tyree Henry (as Bernie Hayes): “The last time those two met up, it was almost the end of Kong.”

Brian Tyree Henry witnessed the start of the “frenemy” relationship in “Godzilla vs. Kong.” He pops up again as Bernie in “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” still living in the 305.

Brian Tyree Henry: “That’s where he was stationed, and if there’s any place to get conspiracy theories believed by anybody, it’s Florida, so he stayed in Florida. Because his audience would be right there along with him.”

He’s kidding, of course.

Rebecca Hall also comes back on the MonsterVerse scene. This time, she’s a real primate expert.

Rebecca Hall: “I remember when [director] Adam [Wingard] first pitched the part to me for the first one, and he was like, ‘You’re kind of like the Jane Goodall, but for Kong.’ It kind of tracks, but now she’s kind of become this boss on how to deal with monsters and humans.”

A newcomer to Skull Island’s mysteries is Dan Stevens as Trapper, and his love language for Kong is…

Dan Stevens: “I’m a gift giver. Isn’t that one of the love languages?”

Rebecca Hall: “Uh-huh. You are a gift giver.”

Brian Tyree Henry: “That is one of the love languages.”

Gift giving, because in the flick, Kong gets an upgrade all thanks to him.

But what about everyone else?

Rebecca Hall: “I think I’m physical touch.”

Brian Tyree Henry: “Definitely physical touch.”

Rebecca Hall: “And words.”

Dan Stevens: “Are you a physical touch?”

Brian Tyree Henry: “Yeah, and words of affirmation. ‘Cause I used to be against this love language, first of all. I was like, ‘Get out of my face. This doesn’t make sense. There can only be five, meh, meh, meh.'”

Between the two ancient titans, their love language is aggression. But the team toned that down.

Brian Tyree Henry: “I think that between words of affirmation, gift giving, physical touch, that kind of translated to Godzilla and Kong, because we embodied it, you know what I mean?”

“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” roars into theaters on Friday.

‘Música’ stars Camila Mendes, Rudy Mancuso walk green carpet at new movie musical’s local premiere https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/musica-stars-camila-mendes-rudy-mancuso-walk-green-carpet-at-new-movie-musicals-local-premiere/ Thu, 28 Mar 2024 00:52:17 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1427948 For Rudy Mancuso, music is everything. The multi-talented musician just directed his first film, “Música.” It’s premiering Wednesday night at the Regal South Beach, where Alex Miranda is joining us live.

We are here at Regal South Beach for a special screening of “Música” on the green carpet here. It stars one of our hometown girls, Camila Mendes. You probably remember her from “Riverdale,” as well as several films.

As for Rudy, he’s a big social media star. He and Camila are love interests in real life as well as in the movie, so no plot twist here: the chemistry makes its way right onto the movie screen.

Alex Miranda: “It’s like hometown glory here. How are you feeling tonight walking the red carpet? Actually, the green carpet.”

Camila Mendes: “I feel amazing. I used to come to this theater growing up, so I feel like it’s such a full-circle moment to be here promoting this movie that has a lot to do with Brazilian culture, and my family’s here.”

Alex Miranda: “Are they like actually right here?”

Camila Mendes: “They’re all just there. They’re just standing on the side there.”

Alex Miranda: “Aww. How proud are they of you?”

Camila Mendes: “They’re very, very proud.”

Rudy Mancuso: “I met her on the film, and while we were talking about the project and developing it, and developing the characters and the pages, a melody did come to mind, and I wrote it on piano, and I sent it to her immediately, and she loved it. It ended up being the main theme of the movie.”

No wonder they fell in love. I mean, could you imagine someone doing something that for you, sending you a song that they came up with in their head? I love that. Somebody’s for to do that for me one day. I hope.

“Música” starts streaming on Amazon Prime Video on April 4.

Rudy Mancuso is going to be singing for everybody at an afterparty following the screening.

Legendairy Milkshake Bar in SoBe offers delicious twists on classics and specials locals will love https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/legendairy-milkshake-bar-in-sobe-offers-delicious-twists-on-classics-and-specials-locals-will-love/ Thu, 28 Mar 2024 00:20:18 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1427904 Things are shaking up on Miami Beach!

That’s right, a new milkshake bar is now in the 305. It’s called Legendairy, and their milkshake is bringing everyone to the yard, not just the boys.

Are you in the mood for something sweet? Don’t be silly! Of course you are.

Which is why you need to get to the all-new Legendairy milkshake bar in Miami Beach.

Christina Barnett: “Legendairy Milkshake Bar is a fast-casual ice cream and milkshake experience.”

She is not joking when she says it’s an experience, because these are not your ordinary sweet beverages.

Christina Barnett: “We take these incredible milkshakes, and we top them with these crazy desert toppings, like cheesecakes and brownies and all kinds of amazing desserts.”

Now with three locations in the U.S., Legendairy says it was only fair to bring its talents to SoFlo.

Christina Barnett: “For Miami Beach, we wanted to have a location that was catering to the tourists, but also, I wanted to have a location where the locals could feel welcomed to come here and have milkshakes.”

The word of this is already spreading.

Lea Stevenson: “So I was actually scrolling on TikTok, trying to find a sweet treat, like, you know locally, because I’m here on vacation. Their shakes look absolutely insane, and I was like, ‘I got to check that out.'”

So, what’s first on the menu?

Christina Barnett: “One of our most popular milkshakes amongst all three of the locations is our Oreo Galoreo.”

This delicious treat is a cookies-and-cream-based milkshake topped with crushed Oreo and marshmallow cream.

Christina Barnett: “I think people really love it because they are just comfortable with Oreos and cookies.”

People seem to also love this monstrosity of a treat. Feast your eyes on “The Bananas Foster.”

Legendairy customer: “Like a kid in the candy store.”

Think banana split, but slightly better. First, you drizzle caramel, then add brown sugar before finally setting the banana ablaze, and voilà. Banana goodness!

Legendairy customer: “Mmm, delicious.”

The Milkshake Bar is also offering up something special for the locals.

Christina Barnett: “Here in Miami Beach, we actually have a Miami exclusive shake. It’s called ‘Mermaid in Miami.'”

Faena Theater in Miami Beach launches ‘Masters of Comedy,’ a monthly comedy series https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/faena-theater-in-miami-beach-launches-masters-of-comedy-a-monthly-comedy-series/ Wed, 27 Mar 2024 00:13:54 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1427566 There’ll be no “shushing” here. Faena Miami Beach is inviting everyone to laugh out loud inside their theater. They’re launching an exclusive monthly comedy series called “Masters of Comedy”.

To start off the roar of laughter tomorrow night is Bill Bellamy. Deco got the low down on what to expect from the master player himself.

Bill Bellamy: “Mike Tyson calls the honey from the hotel room at 2 o’clock in the morning. Is that or is that not a booty call? Can you help me?”

Comedian, Bill Bellamy made “booty call” a thing. But now it’s taking on a new sound with the youngins.

Bill Bellamy: “Like a booty call sounds like you getting a snack, like you’re really getting something. Sneaky link sound like it might be in the wrong packaging or it might not smell right, you know what I mean? Like it doesn’t sound like it’ll be good for you. You know what I’m talking about?!”

Bill Bellamy: “Be normal. But today? Just ain’t the day!”

Bill starred in the 90’s hit ‘How To Be a Player?’ and seems like he’s aging like a fine wine, what’s the secret?

Bill Bellamy: “Coco butter and laughter, that’s my one, two, three. All jokes aside, I think when you’re happy and you’re doing something that you love it keeps you youthful.”

Bill Bellamy: “I took a bath last week.”

Stand-up is his jam! This is why he’ll be coming to Miami Beach’s Faena Theater to kick-off his “Masters of Comedy.”

Bill Bellamy: “The thing I like the most about it is the masters of comedy. I feel like I’m a master of comedy. I get an opportunity to show you why I’m there and I get to enjoy my Miami, Florida fans. I’m excited to perform there. It’s a beautiful theater. Beautiful!

This lively 305 stage known for Allura Cabaret, now welcomes laughter.

Brian Forti, executive producer of Faena Theater: “Faena Theater is a wonderful intimate theater inside Faena Hotel. It’s been designed after a European opera house. We have performers coming from everywhere and they interact with the guests. The guests are eating and drinking and suddenly there’s an artist coming and sitting next to them dancing.”

Mrs Maisel: “You made a mistake calling a comedian. My refrigerator is not running sir. Bye now.”

The new monthly series was inspired by Prime Video’s hit “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.”

Brian Forti: “The art director said we cannot duplicate this look anywhere. We must put her in this theater. It was a great experience and if you watch the episode that is the reason why we have now moved on to presenting comedy series.”

Bill will launch the series, followed by funny guy, Adam Ray and jackass Brad Williams and you better come dressed to impress.

Brian Forti: “It’s unlike the other venues around town where you see comedy. It’s a great experience when you need to get away from work or all the things in your life that are bringing you down at the moment. It’s an escape and it works.”

“Masters of Comedy” premieres Wednesday night at 7 p.m. and 9:15 p.m.

Ariana Grande gives fans new upbeat break-up song ‘We Can’t Be Friends’ https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/ariana-grande-gives-fans-a-new-upbeat-break-up-song-we-cant-be-friends/ Tue, 26 Mar 2024 01:36:06 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1427158 Ariana Grande says “We Can’t Be Friends,” in her new song of the same name.

But don’t let the title fool you. It’s upbeat, it’s poppy, and it’s meant to make you happy, even after you break up and are really, really sad. Don’t take our word for it. Hear it directly from Ari herself.

Ariana Grande (singing): “I don’t wanna tiptoe, but I don’t wanna hide.”

Ariana Grande: “We’re shooting a music video today, for ‘We Can’t Be Friends,’ the second single from ‘Eternal Sunshine.'”

Ariana Grande (singing): “But I don’t wanna feed this monstrous fire.”

Ariana Grande is stepping into a new story with “We Can’t Be Friends.”

Ariana Grande (singing): “You cling to your papers and pens. Wait until you like me again.”

Her new music video is a take on the Jim Carrey movie, “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.”

Jim Carrey (as Joel Barish): “My name is Joel Parish. I am here to erase the emotional core of each of our memories.”

Ariana Grande: “It’s just kind of about erasing the pain and only wanting the best for someone, even if it means not each other.”

Ariana Grande (singing): “But I feel so seen in the night, so for now, it’s only me.”

Ariana tweaked the movie ending a little bit, leaving fans with a happier message.

Ariana Grande: “This ending is quite different. Both of the characters end up discontinuing the cycle of their own toxic pattern.”

Ariana Grande (singing): “You got me misunderstood, but at least I look this good. We can’t be friends.”

Chris Breslauer: “It’s all about new beginnings and finding that both people can be happy in the end, and it’s not like one person wins in this case.”

Ariana Grande: “And it’s not like one person is wrong or the enemy or anything.”

Ariana Grande (singing): “I’ll wait for your love, I’ll wait for your love, I’ll wait for your love.”

Chris Breslauer: “And this song is so special, and it fits the storyline like a glove.”

Ariana Grande (singing): “I’ll wait for your love.”

‘Louie the Raccoon’, Miami social media influencer, wins the Cadbury Easter Bunny contest https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/louie-the-raccoon-miami-social-media-influencer-wins-the-cadbury-easter-bunny-contest/ Tue, 26 Mar 2024 00:19:38 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1427164 All hail Louie! As we told you earlier, Louie the raccoon is the new Cadbury Easter Bunny. Tonight Deco’s showing you his rise to Easter glory.

A star is born! The world has a new Cadbury bunny and Louie is his name and he’s not a bunny.

Louie’s road to chocolate glory was not an easy one. It started with an array of animals from around the country. Talk about your March Madness. Louie was one of 32 Cadbury finalists like Sheldon the miniature donkey and Violet the cat from Pennsylvania.

Lacy Geisler: “We have the odds against us for sure, but you never underestimate the underdog, or the under-donkey, or the under-cat. So I’m hopeful that if I can accomplish this, I’ll feel like I just climbed a mountain.”

There was no mountain climbing. They didn’t make the Cadbury cut. But peaches did! Cute! But the mini horse from Boston was no match for our Louie.

You might think it was a long shot. For Louie, it was destiny.

Jaime Arslan: “I saw that there were no raccoons in the competition and I thought ‘He’s a model, he’s meant for this,’ and it’s really neat to represent all raccoons because they have a bad reputation in the wild and I feel like it would just let people think they can be sweet, they can be nice, they’re not just these little guys stealing your trash.”

Plus.

Jaime Arslan: Louie has such a big personality. His videos just took off and people from all over the world, they fell in love with him.

This bunny business all came down to Louie and “Loki the cat”. In the end, fans picked Louis as their new bunny king. All hail King Louie!

Sparks are flying between Anne Hathaway, Nicholas Galitzine in Prime Video’s ‘The Idea of You’ https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/sparks-are-flying-between-anne-hathaway-nicholas-galitzine-in-prime-videos-the-idea-of-you/ Tue, 26 Mar 2024 00:13:42 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1427160 There’s a fine line between a good rom-com and a great one. Not only do you need to have the right chemistry, but the story has to have Anne Hathaway in it, obviously.

The Princess of Genovia, if you’re familiar. Moving on. Prime Video’s “The Idea of You” checks all of those boxes. Deco caught up with the cast at Austin’s South by Southwest festival.

Sparks are flying between Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine in the new rom-com “The Idea of You.”

Anne Hathaway (as Solène): “What about what people will say?”

Nicholas Galitzine (as Hayes): “I don’t care what they say.”

Here’s the tea. She’s a 40-year-old single mom, and he’s the 24-year-old lead singer of the biggest boy band in the world.

Anne Hathaway (as Solène): “I’m too old for you.”

Nicholas Galitzine (as Hayes): “No, you’re not.”

Wait, is this about to be the hottest movie of the season?

Anne Hathaway: “I think it already is.”

OK, chemistry! We see you!

Nicholas Galitzine (as Hayes): “What do you feel when you look at it?”

Anne Hathaway (as Solène): “Everything.”

This film will totally have you feeling all the feels. So it’s only fair Deco gets the lowdown of what movies take the cast on an emotional roller coaster.

Anne Hathaway: “There’s a movie called ‘American Fiction,’ directed by Cord Jefferson, and I sobbed and laughed and was worried and scared, and I felt like that was such a full ride.”

Nicholas Galitzine: “‘Past Lives’ wrecked me. I don’t think I’ve cried watching a movie like that for a very long time.”

Remember when we said Nick’s character in the movie is in a boy band? Well, that’s actually him doing the singing!

Nicholas Galitzine: “It’s really fun getting to dip into that really broad musical world.”

The songs in the movie are super catchy. But when it comes to bops that get stuck in Anne and Nick’s heads…

Anne Hathaway: “‘Texas Hold ’em’ by Beyoncé.”

Nicholas Galitzine: “‘End of Beginning’ by Joe, who is, you know, Joe Kerry, amazing actor.”

Showtime https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/showtime-383/ Sat, 23 Mar 2024 02:32:25 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1426425 If you sit in a dark room, people might think you’re a little off, but if you sit in a dark movie theater, now they’ll think you’re a consumer of the visual arts. See how you fooled ’em? Here are a few dark rooms for you, in this week’s Showtime.

Dan Aykroyd (as Ray Stantz): “It’s commanding an army of the undead.”

Kumail Nanjiani (as Nadeem Razmaadi): “I think we’re all going to die.”

Paul Rudd (as Gary Grooberson): “Hold on to your ass.”

A cold-hearted ghost is trying to scare you to death in “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.”

Paul Rudd teams up with the OG cast to put this evil force back where it belongs, and of course, to save the world. Because … when something’s strange in the neighborhood, who you gonna call?

Álvaro Morte (as Father Sal Tedeschi): “It’s a miracle. You are with child.”

But is her baby really a miracle or a curse? Sydney Sweeney is Sister Cecilia in the horror flick “Immaculate.”

She’s a newbie nun in a haunted convent who becomes pregnant in an immaculate conception. The place is freaking her out, and she wants to break free.

Russell Crowe (as Roy Freeman): “If we’ve put away the wrong guy, this is a chance for us to make that right.”

Tommy Flanagan (as Jimmy Remis): “Move on and forget about all this.”

Forgetting is something Russell Crowe can definitely do in “Sleeping Dogs,” because he plays an ex-homicide detective with memory loss. The murder he’s out to solve has him questioning if he’s imagining things.

Michael Cherrie (as Conrad Chisholm): “You’re about to make history.”

Tiberius Byrd (as Jerry): “You’re going to be president? You ain’t no man.”

Regina King (as Shirley Chisholm): “Maybe we should find your mother.”

Regina King plays Shirley Chisholm, who became the first Black woman elected to U.S. Congress.

“Shirley” is a biopic about her journey running for president. The film tells a story compiled from conversations with those who knew her best.

Billy Magnussen (as Ben Brandt): “Tell me about this bouncer.”

Arturo Castro (as Moe): “The guy’s all nice like he’s Mr. Rogers or something, but he’ll haul off.”

Jake Gyllenhaal breaks knuckles, heads — every body part, really. “Road House” is an action flick and a retelling of the 1989 movie starring Patrick Swayze.

This time, Jake is an ex-UFC fighter hired to protect a bar in the Florida Keys. A real estate mogul wants to build a resort and uses Conor McGregor to muscle them out.

Jake Gyllenhaal (as Elwood Dalton): “People seem a little aggressive around here.”

Fort Lauderdale hops into Easter early with Spring Fling featuring 3 egg hunts, arts and crafts, music and more https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/fort-lauderdale-hops-into-easter-early-with-spring-fling-featuring-3-egg-hunts-arts-and-crafts-music-and-more/ Sat, 23 Mar 2024 01:04:10 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1426249 Spring has come to South Florida. The brutal winter weather is finally behind us. OK, I’m stretching things a bit, but it is spring, and an annual shindig is about to go down this weekend. It’s time for Spring Fling.

Beach Boys (singing): “For their hearts were full of spring.”

On Sunday, the sweet sounds of the season will fill the air when the fourth annual Spring Fling goes down at Las Olas Oceanside Park in Fort Lauderdale. And everyone is invited.

Arianne Glassman: “This is an event you can bring your children to, the grandparents to, your friends, your extended family, just for a wonderful day to celebrate the season here on Fort Lauderdale Beach.”

Your kids can get a jump on Easter, thanks to a trio of egg hunts.

Arianne Glassman: “We have three egg hunts timed out for the little ones: at 10 o’clock for those 5 and under, at 10:30 for those 6 to 9, and at 11 o’clock for your children that are 10 to 13.”

No need to stress. There’ll be plenty of yolks for everybody.

Arianne Glassman: “There are 12,000 eggs that are going to fill our 20,000-square-foot main lawn.”

Speaking of Easter, a certain bunny will be hanging around, ready to pose for photos with everyone.

The young ones won’t run out of things to do.

Arianne Glassman: “We have arts and crafts for the kids, as we are celebrating Youth Art Month.”

That’s just part of the party. There’ll be tons of vendors, performers and loads of music all day long.

And, when it’s time to chow down, you’ll have plenty of places to choose from.

Arianne Glassman: “And our farmer’s market is going to take over the perimeter of the park, so if you’re looking for some kind of wonderful picnic fare that you can enjoy and spend this glorious day here on Fort Lauderdale Beach, we have a little bit of something for everyone.”

Spring Fling is a chance to ring in the new season in a very cool way.

Arianne Glassman: “So everyone has been celebrating spring break here on Fort Lauderdale Beach. This really gives our locals and those still visiting the area an opportunity to take a break for themselves.”
