A 4-year-old boy has been hospitalized after he was hurt riding a Jet Ski, Friday.
The child and an adult were riding a personal watercraft along a canal in Aventura when they crashed into a docked boat, sending the child flying into the water, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
“The child flew upon impact, straight into the docked vessel and took a head trauma,” said FWC official Lorenzo Veloz.
Witnesses said they were doing risky tricks before crashing into the docked boat. “All we just heard was a large, ‘boom!'” said a woman named Percell, who witnessed the accident. “The gentleman was just riding the kid on the Jet Ski, and I don’t know if he lost control or what. Then, I heard the kid screaming.”
The driver of the WaveRunner was an employee of the child’s father. Moments after, the employee called for fire rescue, at around 11 a.m. The 4-year-old was then transported by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue via air under a “Pediatric Trauma Alert” to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
The boy suffered a high-level concussion and hurt his eye, but he is expected to pull through. “Right now he is in critical condition, but he is stable. He is speaking,” said Veloz.
The child was the only person injured, and no charges have been filed so far.
