Alison Brie and Tony Goldwyn also rolled into town, and they looked pretty good, too.

Don’t worry, Brie happy! Alison stopped by the Regal South Beach for a special showing of her new series, “Apples Never Fall.”

She dished with Deco about having two legends, Annette Bening and Sam Neill, play her parents in the show.

Alison Brie: “It was the best! I mean, I was a little nervous to meet them both, but they are the warmest, kindest people you could ever imagine, and right away, we all really felt like a family. There was this immediate chemistry with everybody, and it just was magical, truly. Like just – they’re cool cats.”

Alison also received the festival’s Art of Light Award.

Tony got one, too. He closed out the festival with his new film, “Ezra,” which he both stars in and directs.

His greatest takeaway from making the movie?

Tony Goldwyn: “To celebrate the things that make us individuals, as opposed to – we’re conditioned to think that we should just fit within defined lanes, and I’ve really been reminded that that’s just so – the opposite is true.”

The film is very close to Tony’s heart because his best friend wrote it. You can catch “Ezra” in theaters May 31.

‘Abbott Elementary’ star Sheryl Lee Ralph receives Miami Film Fest’s Precious Gem Award https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/abbott-elementary-star-sheryl-lee-ralph-receives-miami-film-fests-precious-gem-award/ Tue, 16 Apr 2024 00:58:38 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1433988 It’s a wrap on the 2024 Miami Film Festival, but it wouldn’t be a proper SoFlo sendoff without some major star power.

Sheryl Lee Ralph hit up the 305 over the weekend.

She was in town to receive the fest’s signature Precious Gem Award. It’s reserved for people whose contributions to film and TV leave a lasting legacy.

Sheryl told Deco what the award means to her, and she even had a special message for us.

Sheryl Lee Ralph: “I look at my career now, and I’m just so very thankful that I would be presented with an award that says, ‘You are a precious gem.’ I love that. And I love Deco Drive!”

Sheryl also took part in a special presentation and spoke about her career, especially her award-winning role in “Abbott Elementary.” She says one of the most important lessons she’s learned is not to be afraid to rewrite the script of her own life.

Tom Hiddleston hit up the Magic City for a special ceremony. And it was a real Loki affair.

Keep calm and celebrate Tom!

The actor was in Downtown Miami last night to receive the festival and Variety’s “Virtuoso Award.”

It’s in honor of his extensive career in film, television, and theater.

Tom’s been making movies for over 15 years, most famously playing Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

But the actor spoke about what is happening with him most recently and it’s being a dad and what the award means to him.

Tom Hiddleston: “It’s just changed everything. It changed the center of my life completely. There’s a before and an after, and I’m happy to be living in the after. It’s the most profound honor to be here. I’m so grateful to Variety and the Miami Film Festival and Miami Dade College for inviting me.”

Molly Ringwald discusses enduring screen career at Miami Film Festival, receives Creative Vanguard Award https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/molly-ringwald-discusses-enduring-screen-career-at-miami-film-festival-receives-creative-vanguard-award/ Tue, 09 Apr 2024 00:06:05 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1431776 The 41st Miami Film Festival is underway here in SoFlo, with tons of movies, documentaries and special presentations for everyone to enjoy.

That means that tons of celebs are in town … like Molly Ringwald. She was honored with a special award over the weekend.

The festival teamed up with Variety to present Molly with the Creative Vanguard Award. It’s in honor of her incredible, decades-long career in film and TV.

Deco caught up with the actress at the event, as she looked back at her iconic roles in John Hughes’ movies and reflected on re-watching them now.

Molly Ringwald: “You never really know if a movie is gonna sort of take off or have an impact, but I knew that I really liked the movies, and I really thought that they were special. It’s been really interesting. I mean, it’s interesting to see the way that they’ve aged really well in certain ways, in other ways not. But the films still really hold up.”

Molly was joined on the red carpet by her teenage twins.

You heard it on Deco first on Friday, but she reiterated that this was the first award she’s ever received.

Miami Film Festival returns for its 41st anniversary with top stars and amazing films https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/miami-film-festival-returns-for-its-41st-anniversary-with-top-stars-and-amazing-films/ Sat, 06 Apr 2024 00:43:40 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1431130 Film festivals give movie fans the chance to check out some cool movies, sometimes even months before their official release, and lucky for us, the Miami Film Festival kicks off tonight with tons of movies, shorts, and documentaries. You name it, they got it. And you know what else they got? Tons of star power! Deco chatted with some of the celebs who’ll be making their way to the 305 throughout the festival!

Lights! Camera! Soflo!

The Miami Film Festival is celebrating its 41st anniversary!

James Woolley: “Miami Film Festival is back! It’s one of our biggest years. We’ve got so much talent in town, so many amazing films to see.”

Big is putting it lightly!

James Woolley: “This year we’ve got 110 different programs that are happening all across the city.”

Danny Pino (as David): “You come here to cause problems and point fingers. Now is not the time!”

The festival marks a happy homecoming for Miami’s own Danny Pino!

Danny Pino: “I was born and raised in Miami. I was raised in Westchester. Went to Rockaway and then Coral Park High School and then FIU, so I did the Miami circuit.”

Danny wrote, directed, and stars in the bilingual short film, “Union of Kings. It’s about a son confronting the secrets of his father’s past back in Cuba. The actor tells Deco, shooting the film here was really important.

Danny Pino: “It’s a Miami story. Miami is a character in the film. So to be back home and presenting it to a home audience, it feels right in many ways.”

Robert De Niro (as Stan): “You want me to put him in a special needs school?”

Bobby Cannavale (as Max Bernal): “Jenna knows I’m broke.”

Robert De Niro (as Stan): “She knows you’re still not over her. A man your age shouldn’t be living with his father.”

Also hopping into the director’s chair this year: Tony Goldwyn! He helms the movie, “Ezra” starring Bobby Cannavale, Rose Byrne, and Robert De Niro. The film was written by Tony’s friend, and it explores a comedian’s relationship with his autistic son.

Tony Goldwyn: “The genesis of it was really being able to tell a version of my best friend’s story and bring it to the screen and us kind of do this together as an expression of our friendship.”

Tony says he can’t wait for SoFlo to see it.

Tony Goldwyn: “The audience in Miami is gonna be a really wonderful one. I’m very grateful to be closing this Miami festival with our film. That is the best thing that could have happened.”

Not every actor is showcasing a movie. Molly Ringwald will be here to receive Variety’s “Creative Vanguard” award!

Molly Ringwald: “It was totally unexpected and really nice. I mean, I love Miami. I think this may be the first award that I’ve ever received.”

She’s being honored for her extensive career, which includes those iconic roles in films like “Pretty in Pink” and “The Breakfast Club.”

Molly Ringwald: “I had no idea that people would still be talking about them now. I didn’t know that I was making these classics. But I definitely knew that there was something special about them.”

The Miami Film Festival runs through April 13th. Other celebs like Tom Hiddleston, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Alison Brie will also be in town for awards.

Showtime https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/showtime-385/ Sat, 06 Apr 2024 00:10:35 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1431129 Action. Drama. Thrills. And even a little love. Sure, you can find all that and more every night right here on Deco, But if you’re looking to fill the void this weekend, have no fear. Lynn Martinez shows us how this week’s Showtime packs a real punch.

Dev Patel (as Kid): “Just one small ember can burn down everything.

Sobhita Dhulipala (as Sita): “Make them remember your name.”

No monkeying around here. Dev Patel means serious business in the new action thriller “Monkey Man.” The actor, who also co-wrote and directed the film, plays a guy who’s hunting down the men responsible for his mother’s death. Now, he’s using his fists to enact revenge.

Charithra Chandran (as Amelia): “I want to experience things before we finish school, and I haven’t kissed anyone.”

Sebastian Croft (as Archie): “Popular people go for popular people.”

All’s fair in love and war, especially in high school. In “How to Date Billy Walsh,” a pair of childhood friends named Archie and Amelia decide to revamp their image.

But, as she falls for the new transfer student, she has no idea her bestie has always had feelings for her. Ooooo, the drama!

Nell Tiger Free (as Margaret): “There’s this girl at the orphanage. I think that she really needs someone to look out for her.”

Things are getting dark and sinister in “The First Omen.” A nun working in Rome accidentally uncovers an evil plot involving the birth of the Antichrist. Now she’s got to protect the orphan girl at the center of it all from the church itself.

Lynn Collins (as Louise Quinn): “Dawson, you deserve to know.”

Scott Reeves (as Larry Quinn): London was an in-vitro baby. We couldn’t get pregnant otherwise.”

Lynn Collins (as Louise Quinn): “The procedure gave us two embryos.”

And you thought your family had secrets! In “Someone Like You,” a grieving guy goes searching for his best friend’s secret twin after her tragic passing. But tensions rise as the two start falling for each other.

Voice over the radio: “The mystery of the obscene little Hampton letter is causing widespread distress across the nation.”

A little dirty talk never hurt anybody, but in “Wicked Little Letters,” some cheeky mail is making everyone clutch their pearls.

Olivia Colman thinks Jessie Buckley’s character is the potty-mouthed anonymous author. But there’s more to this mystery than meets the eye.

Reconnect with your childhood at ‘Disney Princess: The Concert,’ coming to Broward Center https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/reconnect-with-your-childhood-at-disney-princess-the-concert-coming-to-broward-center/ Fri, 05 Apr 2024 01:34:04 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1430707 A dream is a wish your heart makes, at least according to Cinderella, and we’re on the same page when it comes to shoes. If your dream also includes a night of music, you’re in luck! There’s a fun concert coming to town this weekend that’s a real royal affair.

They’ve taken us to new heights, and under the sea.

And this weekend, Disney’s iconic princesses and their musical fairy god-fairy are taking over the Broward Center.

Benjamin Rauhala: “It’s sort of a cross between almost a Broadway show and then almost like the Disney Princess Eras Tour.”

Disney Princess: “‘The Concert’ brings the animated characters you know and love to life on stage, with the help of some Broadway divas.

Like SoFlo’s own Syndee Winters.

Syndee Winters: “I played Nala in Disney’s ‘The Lion King’ on Broadway, and I am celebrating Princess Tiana, Princess Merida, Queen Anna and Queen Nala.”

Syndee Winters (singing): “But I’ve climbed the mountain and crossed the river, and I’m almost there.”

Now, the show is not your typical concert experience.

Syndee Winters: “We get to have a 40-foot giant LED screen that plays the animations in the back while we sing some of these songs.”

Syndee Winters, Alyssa Fox, and Hiba Elchikhe (singing): “Let it go, let it go, and I’ll rise like the break of dawn.”

Alyssa Fox and Hiba Elchikhe are also joining the princess party.

Hiba Elchikhe: “I think that everyone can connect to Disney music generationally, right? So I think there’s something in it for everyone.”

Alyssa Fox: “It’s so amazing getting to connect with audiences in different cities, so we’re excited about joining you over there in Florida.”

And the best part is singing along.

Syndee Winters: “To get to be able to sing this music with the audience and, like, put the mic out and let them sing.”

Benjamin Rauhala: “You are all in the show with us. We love to hear you sing.”

And dressing up is encouraged.

Alyssa Fox: “It’s a really incredible thing to know that you can wear a gown and wear sparkles and wear a crown, even.”

Hiba Elchikhe: “Yeah.”

Alyssa Fox: “And still feel like a strong warrior.”

The cast of ‘Wicked Little Letters’ discuss the mystery behind finding the secret mailer https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/the-cast-of-wicked-little-letters-discuss-the-mystery-behind-finding-the-secret-mailer/ Wed, 03 Apr 2024 00:07:05 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1429844 These days, getting something other than a bill or spam in the mail can feel pretty special. But in the new movie “Wicked Little Letters,” the snail mail in question is real naughty! Deco’s having escargot with the cast, oh I mean, we’re getting cheeky with the cast!

A little dirty talk has everyone going postal in the new British comedy “Wicked Little Letters.”

Hugh Skinner (as Constable Pappewick): “Dear Edith, you foxy-ass old ***\.”

carry on.”

The hunt is on to find the mysterious mailer. Olivia Colman’s “Edith” suspects Jessie Buckley’s “Rose.”

Olivia Colman (as Edith Swan): “She’s heinous.”

Jessie Buckley (as Rose Gooding): “Edith, I didn’t do it.”

But there’s a true twist that even surprised the cast and director!

Thea Sharrock: “When I read it the first time, I had no idea that it was based on a true story.”

Olivia Colman: “And then halfway through going ‘No!’, going back to the front cover, realizing ‘Oh my god, it’s real!’, and giggling.”

Olivia Colman (as Edith Swan): “You’ve got a daughter at home. Why would I risk it all?”

Anjana Vasan plays “Gladys,” a police officer determined to get the truth.

Anjana Vasan: “I think Gladys is a great bridge actually between the two characters, there’s a bit of Rose and Edith in her.”

Anjana Vasan (as Gladys Moss): “I’m not standing for it.”

The film takes these characters on a wild ride but it’s all about balancing fun.

Olivia Colman (as Edith Swan) “Oh, would you return my pettipants before the trial next week? Just in case I don’t see you for a long while afterward. ‘ta.”

With character development

Thea Sharrock: “Edith is such a complex character, and the journey she goes on and, as you say, where she starts and where she ends up is, that arc, if you like, is really the story that you follow.”

Olivia Colman: “I love that it becomes about female friendship at the end and, you know, using their own wit and instinct to, to help.”

For Olivia, the film was also a chance to work with Jessie. The two have been friends for years but have never acted together.

Olivia Colman: “One moment in particular in the, in the middle of the square, where Jessie and I were both rubbish. We really struggled to keep it together.”

Jessie Buckley (as Rose Gooding): “You look like [bleeped] Queen Victoria shoved a [bleeped] Nettle up her [bleeped].”

Olivia Colman: “We swear at each other for free all the time, but it was nice to be paid to do it.”

Beyoncé goes country on 8th album ‘Cowboy Carter,’ collabs with music legends https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/beyonce-goes-country-on-8th-album-cowboy-carter-collabs-with-music-legends/ Mon, 01 Apr 2024 23:06:04 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1429413 Welcome to the Wild, Wild West, and I don’t mean that movie with Will Smith. This ain’t Texas, it’s Florida — the Sunshine State — and we’re livin’ that rodeo country life, thanks to Beyoncé’s brand-new album, so stick around, round, round, round, round, because Queen Bey is taking us all on the wildest ride in the wilderness!

Beyoncé (singing): “This ain’t Texas. Ain’t no hold ’em.”

Saddle up! This may not be Beyoncé’s first rodeo.

Beyoncé (singing): “Sixteen carriages drivin’ away while I watch them ride.”

But the new release “Act II: Cowboy Carter” is her first country album.

Beyoncé (singing): “Gadsden, Alabama, got folk down in Galveston, rotted in Louisiana.”

“Cowboy Carter” is Queen Bey’s Second Album in the Renaissance Trilogy, and her eighth overall.

Beyoncé: “We wanna welcome you to the Beyoncé Cowboy Carter Act II.'”

It wouldn’t be a real hoedown throwdown without a little extra star power.

Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus (singing): “Smoke out the window, flying down the 405.”

Miley Cyrus joins Beyoncé on the song “II Most Wanted.”

Post Malone (singing): “Need you all night long. You’re my Rennaisance.”

Post Malone gets a feature on “Levii Jeans.”

Willie Nelson: “Now, for this next tune, I want you to sit back, inhale and go to that good place.”

Even the legendary Willie Nelson makes a special appearance.

But perhaps the most anticipated collab of all…

Dolly Parton: “Hey, Miss Honeybee, it’s Dolly P.”

…comes from the queen of country music herself, Dolly Parton. She lends her voice to the “Dolly P” interlude, which leads listeners into Beyoncé’s take on the iconic song…

Beyoncé (singing): “Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene. I’m warning you, don’t come for my man.”

While Dolly’s version has her pleading…

Dolly Parton (singing): “I’m begging of you, please don’t take my man.”

…Bey is firing off a warning to back down on hers.

Beyoncé (singing): “The games you play are nothing new, so you don’t want no heat with me, Jolene.”

And Dolly is loving it! She posted on Instagram, “Beyoncé is giving that girl some trouble and she deserves it.”

Beyoncé (singing): “Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene. Don’t take the chance because you think you can. You’re beautiful, beyond compare. Takes more than beauty and seductive stares to come between a family and a happy man.”

Kim Kardashian sinks her claws into sassy ‘American Horror Story’ role, as ‘Delicate’ returns to FX https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/kim-kardashian-sinks-her-claws-into-sassy-american-horror-story-role-as-delicate-returns-to-fx/ Thu, 28 Mar 2024 23:52:39 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1428366 Kim Kardashian is getting into character. “American Horror Story: Delicate” returns to FX next week, but before that, Kim’s dishing with Deco about her favorite parts of playing a not-so-nice person.

Kim Kardashian: “We’re shooting our campaign for ‘American Horror Story,’ and I’m so excited to see this vision come to life and turn into this character.”

Kim Kardashian is ready to sink her claws into the second half of “American Horror Story: Delicate.”

Kim Kardashian (as Siobhan Corbyn): “I’m gonna give you the life of your dreams. What would you give up for it?”

Emma Roberts (as Anna Victoria Alcott): “Anything.”

Kim is back as Siobhan, Emma Roberts’ bestie and publicist.

Kim Kardashian (as Siobhan Corbyn): “What in the literal hell are we doing here?”

The premise of “Delicate” revolves around Emma’s character, Anna, trying to have a baby via IVF.

But things quickly take a dark and sinister turn. Sounds heavy.

So, unwinding after filming was essential.

Kim Kardashian: “I take a bath with these bath bombs that Emma gave me. These, like, lavender CBD bath bombs, and I just watch something light until I fall asleep.”

“Light” is pretty much the opposite of Siobhan. She definitely means business.

Kim Kardashian: “The character of Siobhan is definitely like a boss.”

Kim Kardashian (as Siobhan Corbyn): “You’re just famous now, and sometimes it blows.”

Kim Kardashian: “That’s so me in some ways. I really connected with her on that. I don’t want to say I connect with everything about her, but that side, I definitely can.”

Kim Kardashian: “We have to maintain boundaries, and this is one you don’t wanna cross.”

If the character seems a bit familiar…

Kim Kardashian: “I did notice that a lot of people were saying, ‘This is Kris Jenner,’ and at the time, I wasn’t thinking Kris Jenner. But now that I look back, full Kris Jenner.”

Kim Kardashian (as Siobhan Corbyn): “So let me know now. If there’s no joy in this job for you, I can help you fill out an application to work at Costco.”

Sassy one-liners like that let her really have fun with the role.

Kim Kardashian: “My favorite Siobhan one-liner from ‘Part One’ has to be when she would just say, ‘Ugh, it’s exhausting being better than everyone else.'”

Kim Kardashian (as Siobhan Corbyn): “It’s exhausting being better than everyone.”

Kim Kardashian: “Sometimes you’re just like, ‘Why can’t everyone just get [expletive] done.'”

Kim Kardashian (as Siobhan Corbyn): “I need you to get it together.'”

Emma Roberts (as Anna Victoria Alcott): “I can’t!”

[Siobhan slaps Anna.]

Kim Kardashian (as Siobhan Corbyn): “I will not let you say another word about quitting.”

“American Horror Story: Delicate Part Two” debuts on FX starting Wednesday.

Sparks are flying between Anne Hathaway, Nicholas Galitzine in Prime Video’s ‘The Idea of You’ https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/sparks-are-flying-between-anne-hathaway-nicholas-galitzine-in-prime-videos-the-idea-of-you/ Tue, 26 Mar 2024 00:13:42 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1427160 There’s a fine line between a good rom-com and a great one. Not only do you need to have the right chemistry, but the story has to have Anne Hathaway in it, obviously.

The Princess of Genovia, if you’re familiar. Moving on. Prime Video’s “The Idea of You” checks all of those boxes. Deco caught up with the cast at Austin’s South by Southwest festival.

Sparks are flying between Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine in the new rom-com “The Idea of You.”

Anne Hathaway (as Solène): “What about what people will say?”

Nicholas Galitzine (as Hayes): “I don’t care what they say.”

Here’s the tea. She’s a 40-year-old single mom, and he’s the 24-year-old lead singer of the biggest boy band in the world.

Anne Hathaway (as Solène): “I’m too old for you.”

Nicholas Galitzine (as Hayes): “No, you’re not.”

Wait, is this about to be the hottest movie of the season?

Anne Hathaway: “I think it already is.”

OK, chemistry! We see you!

Nicholas Galitzine (as Hayes): “What do you feel when you look at it?”

Anne Hathaway (as Solène): “Everything.”

This film will totally have you feeling all the feels. So it’s only fair Deco gets the lowdown of what movies take the cast on an emotional roller coaster.

Anne Hathaway: “There’s a movie called ‘American Fiction,’ directed by Cord Jefferson, and I sobbed and laughed and was worried and scared, and I felt like that was such a full ride.”

Nicholas Galitzine: “‘Past Lives’ wrecked me. I don’t think I’ve cried watching a movie like that for a very long time.”

Remember when we said Nick’s character in the movie is in a boy band? Well, that’s actually him doing the singing!

Nicholas Galitzine: “It’s really fun getting to dip into that really broad musical world.”

The songs in the movie are super catchy. But when it comes to bops that get stuck in Anne and Nick’s heads…

Anne Hathaway: “‘Texas Hold ’em’ by Beyoncé.”

Nicholas Galitzine: “‘End of Beginning’ by Joe, who is, you know, Joe Kerry, amazing actor.”

In Netflix’s ‘Damsel,’ Millie Bobby Brown doesn’t need a prince to come to her rescue https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/in-netflixs-damsel-millie-bobby-brown-doesnt-need-a-prince-to-come-to-her-rescue/ Fri, 08 Mar 2024 02:47:56 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1420433 Girl meets prince. Prince saves girl. And they lived happily ever after. That’s how traditional fairy tales go, but there’s nothing basic about Netflix’s new film, “Damsel.” Millie Bobby Brown is showing Deco the real meaning of princess power.

Angela Bassett (as Lady Bayfort): “I need you to listen to me now: I don’t trust them. They may be royalty, but that doesn’t make them good people.”

She may be a damsel and in distress … but Millie Bobby Brown doesn’t need no prince to save her.

Millie Bobby Brown (as Elodie): “I will escape for every innocent woman whose life was stolen.”

Millie plays Princess Elodie in the new Netflix fantasy film “Damsel,” but her happily ever after with a handsome prince comes to a screeching halt when his family tries to sacrifice her to a dragon. And you thought your in-laws had problems!

Millie Bobby Brown: “She doesn’t know who she is, and she’s been forced into something she doesn’t want to do.”

Now it’s up to her to be her own hero.

Millie Bobby Brown: “She has to fight back, and she has to become herself, and she has to become a warrior, and that’s who she is inside. I love things like that, because to me, it shows young girls, they’re capable and worthy.”

Easier said than done. But that’s what character development is all about, right?

Millie Bobby Brown: “What makes Elodie a compelling character is her transparency and her honesty through it all. Like, you see her mistakes, and you see her grow, and I think that’s what makes you fall in love with her.”

The dragon isn’t the movie’s only villain. Elodie’s monster-in-law — I mean, mother-in-law — is played by Robin Wright.

Robin Wright: “She definitely is sacrificing these princesses for a good cause. It’s to keep her kingdom intact, and she doesn’t want to break tradition. She’s never known any different.”

I guess you could say the queen has a heavy weight on her head and shoulders.

Robin Wright: “The queen’s crown weighed, pretty much, you know, as much as a Mercedes van.”

“Damsel” is all about defying expectations when it comes to traditional fairy tales. But don’t just take our word for it.

Millie Bobby Brown: “It makes you think, like, you don’t know what’s right and wrong, and you don’t know whether it’s good or bad. I don’t know. There’s something really nice about that.”

“Damsel” starts streaming on Netflix on Friday.

Jack Black jumps back into action in the new animated action movie ‘Kung Fu Panda 4’ https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/jack-black-jumps-back-into-action-in-the-new-animated-action-movie-kung-fu-panda-4/ Thu, 07 Mar 2024 01:24:27 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1419981 Hi-ya! Kung Fu Panda is back — both with an appetite and those sweet kung fu moves. Deco’s working up a sweat with Jack Black and the cast. Skadooosh!

Jack Black (as Po, voice): “Now, you kids be careful with those fireworks.”

Audrey Brooke (as White Bunny, voice): “Violence makes our tummies tingle!”

Talk about pure panda-monium!

Jack Black (as Po, voice): “Inner peace. Inner peace. Get your surf off my turf! Dinner, please. Dinner with peas.”

Jack Black is jumping back into action as the voice of Po in “Kung Fu Panda 4.”

Jack Black: “I’d always kind of secretly hoped there’d be some more adventures.”

And he’s telling Deco his secret to success.

Jack Black: “I’m at my best when I’m having fun and when I’m, you know, joking around like I always did when I was a kid, all the way until now. That’s always kind of been my secret sauce, and I feel like that’s Po’s magic, too.”

Jack Black (as Po, voice): “Being the Dragon Warrior is who I am. Skadoosh!”

Jack Black: “His love and passion for kung fu is like childlike, but it’s also super powerful.”

Po’s got a lot on his plate this movie. Not only is he searching for a successor; he’s got a new baddie to deal with.

Jack Black (as Po, voice): “Who’s that?”

Awkwafina (as Zhen, voice): “The most powerful shape-shifting sorceress: the Chameleon.”

Viola Davis: “I wanted to play a villain, I did. I mean, I can only play a villain in my imagination. I tried to play a villain at home; it doesn’t work.”

Oh, come on! How is anyone supposed to root against the Viola Davis?!

Viola Davis: “She is extremely narcissistic, so I think that it’s not enough that she has the power to transform and influence. She will not stop until she has godlike powers, and that’s when she feels like she would be satisfied.”

Yikes! Thankfully, Po doesn’t have to deal with that alone.

Jack Black: “He couldn’t have succeeded without this new friend. A ragamuffin from the streets. She’s a scraper, a scrapper, a survivor.”

She is Awkwafina’s character, Zhen.

Jack Black (as Po, in the recording studio): “Very clever, fox. You know something.”

Awkwafina: “I think that they’re funny. I like the way that they like bicker, and I really like the way that their partnership and friendship develop.”

Jack Black (as Po, voice): “Skadoosh. Stand back. I’m gonna kick my butt.”

“Kung Fu Panda 4” jumps into theaters on Friday.

Showtime https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/showtime-380/ Sat, 02 Mar 2024 05:40:00 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1418403 Sometimes we all need a great escape, but vacations are expensive. Plus you have to pack, and that is so annoying. This week’s Showtime is filled with options that’ll help you escape reality from the comfort of home … or the comfort of your favorite movie theater.

Zendaya (as Chani): “What we do, we do for the benefit of all.”

Timothée Chalamet (as Paul Atreides): “I would very much like to be equal to you.”

Zendaya (as Chani): “Maybe I’ll show you the way.”

All’s fair in love and war — especially when it’s all happening in the highly anticipated blockbuster “Dune: Part Two.”

Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya are joining forces and fighting for their future. The star-studded sequel also stars Josh Brolin, Austin Butler and Florence Pugh.

Emily Tunon (as Lady Doppler, voice): “Megamind, is that any way to welcome your old crew?”

Trouble is brewing in “Megamind vs, The Doom Syndicate.” The former-villain-turned-hero has sworn to defend Metro City, but his old crew shows up and wants to launch the whole place to the moon. Now he’s gotta pretend to still be bad, while figuring out how to stop them.

Jeff Goldblum (as Jeff Harris, voice): “Who’s Tenorio Junior?”

Character in “They Shot the Piano Player”: “Tenório was one of the top figures of samba jazz during the bossa nova years.”

Jeff Goldblum (as Jeff Harris, voice): “What happened to him?”

Character in “They Shot the Piano Player”:(as voice): “Very strange story. He disappears just like this.” (snaps fingers)

Jeff Goldblum is getting animated in the docudrama “They Shot the Piano Player.” The film explores the real-life disappearance and presumed murder of a famous Brazilian piano player in the ’70s. Jeff voices an American music journalist who’s trying to get to the bottom of what happened.

Robbie Amell (as Connor): “I have to get someone out of the city tonight, a friend. If you do that for me, we’re even.”

Stephen Amell (as Garrett): “I’ll help you. But quick question first: what is it about me?”

It’s not Code Red, it’s “Code 8: Part II.” Stephen and Robbie Amell reprise their roles in the sci-fi sequel about a fictional city where having superpowers is against the law. And this time, they’re teaming up to help a young girl who’s being tracked and targeted by corrupt cops.

Paul Dano (as Hanus, voice): “I am like you, an explorer. Your loneliness intrigued me.”

Adam Sandler (as Jakub Prochazka): “Why are you here?”

Adam Sandler is questioning his sanity in “Spaceman.” No funny business here, ’cause this movie, starring him and Carey Mulligan, is a drama.

Adam plays an astronaut on a lonely mission, whose life back home is falling apart, and the only thing that can seemingly help him is a mysterious creature he discovers aboard his ship. Sounds totally safe and normal.

Adam Sandler (as Jakub Prochazka): “I just want to come home.”

Celebrate 305 Day with big party and museum exhibit in Wynwood, tasty vegan food deals in Miramar https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/celebrate-305-day-with-big-party-and-museum-exhibit-in-wynwood-tasty-vegan-food-deals-in-miramar/ Sat, 02 Mar 2024 02:33:58 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1418418 Here in SoFlo, we’ll take any excuse to throw a party. A holiday that’s all about us sounds like a pretty good reason to us. Deco’s checking out three spots that are celebrating the magic of the Magic City.

Pitbull said it best…

Pitbull (singing): “Que no pare la fiesta, don’t stop the party!”

Everybody knows … there ain’t no party like a 305 party.

The Magic City is getting pumped for its annual 305 Day Fiesta at Wynwood Marketplace this Saturday.

Marvin Tapia: “305 Day celebrates Miami people, Miami culture, music, food. I mean, everything that makes us Miami is what we celebrate on 305 Day. There’ll be free pastelitos and cafecito from Publix.”

March 5th falls on a Tuesday this year. That simply won’t do.

Carlos Fernandez: “We’re doing things earlier this year, which is unaccustomed to Miami people. We’re usually late, so we’re trying to be better by doing it three days early. So, come out, 305 day on 03/02.”

Comedian Carlos Hernandez is back as this year’s host with the most.

DJ Epps is back, too. He wants you to show up and get down.

DJ Epps: “I’m gonna be your music therapist. So we’re gonna have nothing but great music. And when I say great music, t’s not just hip hop. We’re gonna have some reggaeton. Being with that crowd is nothing but pure energy.”

Here’s the dealio. “The Art of Hip Hop” in Wynwood is drawing up some savings for 305 Day.

Alan Ket: “For 305 Day, we are offering discounted tickets, $3.05 to come in, and you’re gonna basically see a new exhibition, a new celebration of some of the makers and photographers of Miami.”

One of the featured artists is Erni Vales, who creates paintings out of traditional graffiti shapes.

Erni Vales: “If you go home and you say, ‘I remember that piece, and it makes me feel something, and I get it,’ I did my job.”

SoFlo native SKAM2? is treating SoFlo to some special sketches.

SKAM2?: “There’s gonna be some of the original sketches for, like some of the Slim Shady LP stuff and A Tribe Called Quest, ‘Beats, Rhymes and Life.'”

When he says Slim Shady, you know he’s talking about Eminem.

SKAM2? told Deco about how these iconic images came about.

SKAM2?: “They just gave me carte blanche and were like, ‘Well, you know all the songs, you know the vibe, you know what it is,’ and they just let me do it.”

Hungry for more savings? Stop by The Krazy Vegan in Miramar.

Alex “Big Lip” Chisholm: “A lot of times, people party on 305 Day. We’re celebrating it with food.”

That means dishing out some deals that even celebs will love.

Alex “Big Lip” Chisholm: “305 Day is gonna be big at The Krazy Vegan. We have menu items for $3.05. Only time you’re gonna see them for $3.05, I’m just gonna be honest.”

HOT 105 radio host “Big Lip” is talking about items like their specialty burgers.

Alex “Big Lip” Chisholm: “We’ve created a new signature burger. It’s called the 305 Burger. It has the mango salsa, it has the caramalized onions. It has the french fried potato sticks on it.”

There’s also a hangover breakfast burger, and a fun “Miami Vice” berry drink. I’ll eat and drink to that!

The 305 Day party at Wynwood Marketplace on Saturday is free. It all kicks off at, you guessed it, 3:05 p.m.

Kate Winslet details new role in satirical HBO limited series ‘The Regime’ https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/kate-winslet-details-new-role-in-satirical-hbo-limited-series-the-regime/ Fri, 01 Mar 2024 01:23:04 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1417965 Kate Winslet is definitely a queen in our eyes, but in the new HBO series, “The Regime,” she’s definitely taking on a different title. Kate is playing Chancellor, and you could say she totally rules.

Kate Winslet (as Elena Vernham): “Since I became your chancellor, we have grown considerably as a country. It is time to show America and the world precisely what we are worth.”

Kate Winslet is leading by example in the new HBO limited series, “The Regime.”

Kate Winslet (as Elena Vernham): “Have some pride. Let me do my work and be grateful, OK?”

Kids: “OK, sorry.”

Or is she?

Kate Winslet: “Elena Vernham wants to create change. She doesn’t always know exactly what to do other than to get people to love her, and she absolutely is delusional and believes that they really do love her.”

Uh-oh. That can’t be good.

Kate Winslet: “I had to kind of sift through the sort of crazy emotional rubble of her to find things that I found redeeming about her. I mean, I can honestly say I’ve just never come across a character like this in my life before.”

OK, OK, here’s the deal. Elena is the chancellor of a fictional European nation that’s falling apart behind its palace walls.

Kate Winslet (as Elena Vernham): “Who the [expletive] are all these people?”

Matthias Schoenaerts: “I took the liberty of inviting our people from the countryside.”

And, as she becomes increasingly paranoid about her position, she turns to an unlikely confidant.

Helper: “Madame Chancellor, Corporal Zubak.”

Kate Winslet: “Zubak comes into her life because she has a system within the palace of employing a protector.”

Kate Winslet (as Elena Vernham): “You’re here because you’re a nobody, do you understand? And that means I can trust you.”

Matthias Schoenaerts: “He’s in the process of transformation, and he’s discovering the world of power and how it works.”

Kate Winslet: “Elena and Zubak, they’re kindred spirits in some way.”

Matthias Schoenaerts: “However dysfunctional their relationship is, I think it’s probably one of the only places he truly felt safe and motivated to live with a purpose.”

Guillaume Gallienne (as Nicky): “I’d like to see her.”

Matthias Schoenaerts (as Corporal Zubak): “Is she expecting you?”

Guillaume Gallienne (as Nicky): “I’m her husband.”

Matthias Schoenaerts (as Corporal Zubak): “Is she expecting you?”

The dysfunction between the two characters only makes their interactions more fun.

Kate Winslet: “I’ve never laughed so much at the material that was in front of me as we did every single day.”

Kate’s co-star, Hugh Grant, agrees.

Hugh Grant: “It has brilliant humor and profoundly silly comedy that made me laugh a lot. “

Kate Winslet (as Chancellor): “Love this kingfisher blue. Try not to the blood on it.”

Kate Winslet (as Chancellor): “And so I bless you all, and I bless our love, always.”

“The Regime” debuts on HBO on Sunday at 9 p.m. and will be available to stream on Max.

4 local designers take center stage at the first-ever Women’s Fashion & Design Week https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/4-local-designers-take-center-stage-at-the-first-ever-womens-fashion-design-week/ Tue, 27 Feb 2024 01:31:42 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1416697 The first day of spring is just a few weeks away, but you can get a head start right now by springing forward into fashion. Deco’s checking out a SoFlo event that’s celebrating girl power in the 305 by showcasing local designers.

Lady Gaga had the right idea. So did RuPaul.

From March 8 through 10, SoFlo styles will be front and center at the first-ever Women’s Fashion & Design Week.

Tayo Ishola: “Women’s Fashion & Design Week is a fashion week that is really just centered on women that have a voice, that have stories to tell through design.”

This celebration is all about girl power. That’s why it’s happening during Women’s History Month.

Tayo Ishola: “This is powered by the Wonder Woman initiative. It was very important to us to do it in a month that is already identified and dedicated to honoring women worldwide.”

The main event is the fashion show at the Betsy Hotel South Beach featuring four South Florida brands.

MoLuxe wants you to get all tangled up in their resort wear.

Ashlee Monroe: “Someone may look at my pieces and think it’s crochet, or they may think it’s knitting, but it’s actually knotting. Every knot is something that I actually did with my physical fingers and hands.”

These pieces can be rocked with swimwear or dressed up with pants.

And speaking of pieces you can transition. House Twenty Two is all about mixing comfort with style.

Melissa Ledezma: “What sets our loungewear apart from other brands is that we’re 100% silk. When we say loungewear, we mean pieces that are basic pieces — joggers, shorts but some statement pieces as well. You have a blazer, you have a suit. We want you to take the comfort of home with you wherever you go.”

Speaking of going places, you’re sure to turn heads by rocking these dresses from I Am Eido and Ayeakah.

Aryea Kolubah: “The brand is very inspired by bold colors and prints, silhouettes that accentuate the woman’s body, making her feel comfortable “

Not to mention, sexy!

Aryea Kolubah: “When she wears it, she just feels like a goddess, so it’s just about radiating power, empowerment, strength.”

I Am Eido is also keeping things colorful.

Tayo Ishola: “You’re gonna be seeing lots of color, for sure, from my designs. You’ll be seeing lots of prints — I’m really inspired by the African print — and then I’m very inspired by Miami. I’m bringing in some Spanish influence with the ruffles.”

Four local designers being highlighted at the show? I guess you could say it’s all by design.

Tayo Ishola: “I’m excited about just the aesthetics and just the beautiful designs that people have come up with for the show.”

The fashion show is going down March 9 at the Betsy Hotel.

‘Drive-Away Dolls’ stars Qualley, Viswanathan and Feldstein dish on making lesbian road comedy https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/drive-away-dolls-stars-qualley-viswanathan-and-feldstein-dish-on-making-lesbian-road-comedy/ Sat, 24 Feb 2024 01:46:00 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1415972 It’s drive time, baby. There’s a new movie out this weekend that’ll make you wanna hit the gas, all the way to your local movie theater. Deco’s getting behind the wheel with the cast of “Drive-Away Dolls” in the Big Apple.

Geraldine Viswanathan (as Marian): “I’m leaving down.”

Margaret Qualley (as Jamie): “I am, too. That’s my plan. Where are you going?”

Geraldine Viswanathan (as Marian): “Tallahassee, Florida. I’ve been unhappy.”

Margaret Qualley (as Jamie): “That’s why we take this trip together, honey babe. We get our act together, together.”

From heartbreak to road hazards.

Margaret Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan are hitting the road in the lesbian road comedy “Drive-Away Dolls.”

[Jamie opens car trunk.]

Margaret Qualley (as Jamie): “What?”

Geraldine Viswanathan (as Marian): “We should see what’s in here.”

Margaret Qualley (as Jamie): “I bet it’s locked.”

[The lock opens.]

But their trip to Tallahassee takes a crazy turn when they find a mysterious briefcase in their car.

Wait, wait … Tallahassee?! Why not Miami?

Geraldine Viswanathan: “I don’t understand it.”

Margaret Qualley: “Yeah, I don’t, either! I don’t have any problems with Miami. Doesn’t everybody get a tax break?”

Beanie Feldstein: “I’m going to Miami on Saturday. There you go.”

See? Their co-star, Beanie Feldstein, gets it.

Margaret Qualley (as Jamie): “I’m gonna help you break a big murder case.”

Beanie Feldstein (as Sukie): “That is about the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. And I’m a cop.”

OK, OK, so the movie isn’t set in the Magic City, Boooo! But what would it look like if it was?

Geraldine Viswanathan: “Sorry I just like, like bikinis. And heels. Bikinis and high heels. I hear Miami and I kind of go, tut-tut.”

Margaret Qualley: “Miami is more of like a club vibe. It’s like, you’re going, you’re going out.”

Going out implies good driving music to get you hyped along the way, am I right?

Margaret Qualley: “Lana Del Rey. Jack. Bleachers. Shout out.”

Jack Antonoff (singing): “Friday night, killer queens. Hop a train, on the scene.”

Spoiler alert. “Jack” is Jack Antonoff from the band Bleachers — and he also happens to be Margaret’s husband! We love a supportive spouse.

Geraldine Viswanathan: “Miley.”

Margaret Qualley: Miley Cyrus.”

Beanie Feldstein: “My wife and I listen to Sirius XM The Bridge, which is all, like, ’70s folk rock.”

Geraldine Viswanathan: “Oh, my God!”

Beanie Feldstein: “A little Joni Mitchell.”

Geraldine Viswanathan: “Yes, Joni.”

Beanie Feldstein: “A little Carole King. Carly Simon.”

Margaret Qualley: “Taylor Swift.”

Taylor Swift: “Nice!”

“Drive-Away Dolls keeps things short and sweet, with the film clocking in at only 84 minutes. That is waaaay shorter than your average road trip.

So we wanna know, which of their past characters do the girls think would be fun to go on a vacay with?

Margaret Qualley: “Pussycat would have a good vibe. Like the Quentin Tarantino part.”

Geraldine Viswanathan: “Oh, yeah.”

Brad Pitt (as Cliff Booth): “Hello, hot stuff.”

Margaret Qualley (as Pussycat): “Looks like third time’s the charm.”

Geraldine Viswanathan: “I think maybe my character from ‘Blockers.’ She’s kind of a – she’s a party girl.”

Margaret Qualley: “I love that character. If I could chose one of theirs, yeah, that would be yours.”

Beanie Feldstein: “Well, I know Monica [Lewinsky]. And I love Monica, so why don’t I say Monica, and then we could go together? There you go.”

Beanie Feldstein (as Sukie): “Well, you’ve had a full day.”

‘Grimsburg’ stars Jon Hamm, Rachel Dratch talk about new Fox animated comedy series https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/grimsburg-stars-jon-hamm-rachel-dratch-talk-about-new-fox-animated-comedy-series/ Fri, 23 Feb 2024 02:04:09 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1415503 Grab your detective hats and magnifying glasses, because Sunday nights on Fox just got more animated, and it’s no mystery why.

Deco’s going undercover with the stars of the animated series “Grimsburg.”

Narrator: “In a deadly little town called Grimsburg.”

Jon Hamm (as Marvin Flute): “I’m the world’s most smartest detective. Drop the spoon, Mary Choppins.”

Narrator: “One man will return to crack the most gruesome cases.”

Detective Marvin Flute is on the case in Fox’s animated sitcom, “Grimsburg.”

Coroner: “Glad you’re back, Flute. This place has been dead without you.”

Jon Hamm voices the super sleuth.

Jon Hamm: “I have been a fan of animation on Sundays on Fox for a long, long time, so the opportunity to get a chance to play in that sandbox was really fun.”

The show definitely is not your average comedy. So says comedian Rachel Dratch, who voices Flute’s son, Stan.

Rachel Dratch: “Subversive, funny, definitely, you know, adult-ish, although I think my 13-year-old would like it, too. It’s that sort of ‘Simpsons’ brand of – this isn’t really your kid’s cartoon, and it’s got some sort of twisty humor to it, edgy humor.”

She is definitely having fun with the role.

Rachel Dratch: “I love doing voiceover, because in regular, whenever, theater or TV, you know, like, the way in who you are as a person physically determines in a way sometimes who you play. That’s why I love the sketch, too, because that kind of doesn’t matter in sketch, either, and same with voiceover.”

Rachel says voice roles give her more freedom to play around.

Rachel Dratch: “You can be a woman in her 50s and play a young boy, so I love that about voiceover and, I mean, there’s a long tradition, obviously, with, you know, Bart Simpson and beyond, of women playing young boys, so it’s just – it’s super fun to break out of your usual thing.”

Alan Tudyk (as Mr. Flesh): “So your pop’s moving into the basement, hmm?”

Rachel Dratch (as Stan Flute): “Together under one roof again. This is what we’ve been dreaming of.”

Experience Black and Brown cultures at Overtown EatUp! during 2024 SOBEWFF https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/experience-black-and-brown-cultures-at-overtown-eatup-during-2024-sobewff/ Thu, 22 Feb 2024 02:06:23 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1415058 It’s the most wonderful time of the year for SoFlo foodies. The South Beach Wine & Food Festival kicks off Thursday. Deco’s got a sneak peek of an event that’s full of flavor and culture.

When it comes to the South Beach Wine & Food Festival…

Lee Schrager: “We’ve always been all about the community and focusing on the great talent here in South Florida.”

…community comes first, and that’s exactly what “Overtown EatUp!” is all about.

Marcus Samuelsson: “Overtown EatUp! is the best, really, of Black and Brown hospitality and restaurant owners in Miami. You’re gonna have restaurants from Overtown, from Little Haiti, but also chefs from New Orleans and Atlanta coming in.”

The event, hosted by Chef Marcus Samuelsson, is back for seconds after a sold-out showing last year.

Marcus Samuelsson: “We have about 25 amazing restaurants. You’re gonna have dishes from Haiti, you’re gonna have dishes from Africa. You’re gonna have dishes from, of course, the Caribbean.”

But that’s not all.

Marcus Samuelsson: “When you talk about Black food, you also talk about Black culture, so, of course we’re gonna have music there. We have live bands. It’s such a party, and the vendors really get into it and have a good time as well.”

One of the chefs taking part in Overtown EatUp! is Amaris Jones from Chick’N Jones. We caught up with her at Chef Samuelsson’s restaurant, Red Rooster.

Amaris Jones: “We’re super excited about being back for a second year because we’re celebrating this vibrant rich history of Overtown.”

And you know she’s gonna be serving up some of her signature fried chicken.

Amaris Jones: “I’m serving Chick’N Jones’ famous fried chicken. I have my special – it’s like a coconut escovitch, which is very different from what you’re kind of like used to, so I just hope you enjoy it.”

Good food and good times? Sign me up!

Overtown EatUp! is going down this Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Overtown Ninth Street Pedestrian Mall near Red Rooster. Tickets are still available online.

Get tangled up with the stars of “Madame Web” as they talk about their new superhero movie https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/get-tangled-up-with-the-stars-of-madame-web-as-they-talk-about-their-new-superhero-movie/ Tue, 13 Feb 2024 01:29:03 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1412117 You don’t have to have superpowers to be a hero. But when it comes to movies, it sure helps! Especially if those powers let you see the future! Deco’s getting all tangled up with Dakota Johnson and the stars of “Madame Web”.

Dakota Johnson’s world is spinning out of control in the new superhero film, “Madame Web.”

Dakota Johnson: “You meet Cassie when she’s a paramedic in New York City and she’s already kind of an everyday hero and she cares about saving people.”

Cassie starts experiencing psychic powers after a near-death experience. Bet ya didn’t see that coming!

Dakota Johnson: “When it turns out that her superpower was her mind, I love the idea of a young woman having a really powerful mind and really leaning into it.”

Cassie’s visions lead her to protect three teens played by Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, and Celeste O’Connor from a mysterious bad guy who’s determined to hunt them down and it led to Deco meeting the real star of the movie!

Isabela Merced: “She was the original spider cast in the first Spider-Man movie. Who had to like, see, my baby? No, Bon Bon was on set. Bon Bon’s my dog and she was there. Like every scene you see in the movie, she was there like behind the camera.”

Speaking of connections, there’s no denying all things related to the Spider-Man universe are loved by generations of fans. But we wanted to know, what childhood movies and shows hold a special place in the cast’s hearts?

Sydney Sweeney: “My brother and I, we would watch ‘Scooby Doo’ together all the time.”

Isabela Merced: “The live-action or the show?”

Sydney Sweeney: “No, like the show and I always feel like whenever I think of ‘Scooby Doo’, I think of my little brother and I growing up and our relationship.”

Dakota Johnson: “I used to watch “I Love Lucy” with my mom when Nick at Nite would come on, which I loved so much. It was like, I don’t know, really cozy and special.

Celeste O’Connor: I watched “The Lion King” probably 300 times as a young person. I watched it with my younger brother and my dad. I had it on VHS.

Sydney Sweeney: “Awww!”

Celeste O’Connor: “Isn’t that crazy?”

Showtime https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/showtime-377/ Sat, 10 Feb 2024 22:18:30 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1411325 The Super Bowl isn’t the only exciting thing happening this weekend. If you’re not a sports person and looking for something to watch, Deco’s got a look at this week’s new releases.

Kathryn Newton (as Lisa Swallows): “I can’t believe you’re here. Do you love music? I have The Cure. Oh, not that kind of cure.”

‘Til death do us part. Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse are having one killer romance in “Lisa Frankenstein.”

She plays a teen goth girl, and he’s the Victorian-era corpse she accidentally brings back to life. Talk about sparks flying!

Woody Harrelson (as Paul Warren): “You wanna be a normal teenager. I got news for you. You’re not normal, Doris.”

Parker Sack (as Adam): “Who’s Doris?”

Nico Parker (as Doris): “Uh, I am.”

Being a teenager is hard enough, but it’s even tougher when you’re growing up while caring for a sick loved one.

In “Suncoast”, Nico Parker and Woody Harrelson strike up an unlikely friendship, as she tries to find balance in her personal life and being there for her dying brother.

Maria Dizzia (as Julie): “What’s the story worth?”

Jay Duplass (as Guy Laury): It’s just like a last chance.”

Maria Dizzia (as Julie): “One story.”

Jay Duplass (as Guy Laury): “It’s just room and board for free for two months.”

Read it and weep. Jay Duplass plays a one-hit author looking for inspo in the mystery thriller “Ghostwritten.”

But when he takes on a winter residency on a reclusive island, he ends up stumbling upon a decades-old murder! Dun-dun-duuun!

Fola Evans-Akingbola (as Renee): “You’re not on this flight.”

Rachel Matthews (as Suzette): “They put you on one that leaves in four hours. In economy.”

Juliet Agnes (as Ticket Agent): “You’ve just been upgraded.”

Camila Mendes (as Ana): “First class?”

Camila Mendes is flying first class in the new rom-com “Upgraded.”

And love is definitely in the air, or at least it would be, if the hottie she’s falling for didn’t accidentally mistake her for her rich boss. Cue the drama!

Andrew Schulz (as Ronnie): “Being a New Yorker means that you fight every single day. Rocky Balboa said that.”

Camila Mendes (as Ana): “Isn’t he from Philly?”

Andrew Schulz (as Ronnie): “He moved there, from Brooklyn.”

Let there be fluff! Puppy Bowl XX promises cuteness overload; Miami-Dade Animal Services to host party/adoption event https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/let-there-be-fluff-puppy-bowl-xx-promises-cuteness-overload-miami-dade-animal-services-to-host-party-adoption-event/ Sat, 10 Feb 2024 03:34:28 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1411286 The cutest players in the game are gearing up to hit the field this weekend, but we’re not talking about Taylor Swift’s boo, Travis Kelce, or his pal Patrick Mahomes. No, these top dogs are a lot fluffier!

The annual Puppy Bowl is going down on Sunday, and Miami-Dade Animal Services is throwing the ultimate ruff party.

Announcer: “Twenty years ago, we made history. And on February 11th, we do it again. The Puppy Bowl! Oh, my goodness. Look at you! And you! Bring me more!”

Dan Schachner: “Let the Puppy Bowl begin!”

It’s their paw-ty, and they can play if they want to! Yes, yes you can!

Dan Schachner: “We have two-time champ Team Fluff, led by defensive genius, Coach Shanahound. And a hungry Team Ruff, commandeered by longtime coach, Nick Fur-ianni.”

Everyone tuning into Discovery and Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl is already a winner, because there’s enough tail-wagging cuteness to go around.

Dan Schachner: “Every year we grow bigger and bigger. For our 20th anniversary, we’re the puppiest Puppy Bowl ever. We have puppy coaches. We have puppy cheerleaders. We have 73 shelters participating this year.”

Speaking of participating shelters, you can’t buy happiness, but you sure can adopt it, at Miami-Dade County Animal Services in Doral.

Annette Jose, Miami-Dade Animal Services: “We submit many pictures to Puppy Bowl, and they select the cutest, best behaved dog and, of course, the best player of the team, to represent Miami-Dade County.”

She’s talking about their VIP — that stands for “very important pup,” by the way — Payton, who played on Team Fluff!

Annette Jose: “We’re so proud of our Puppy Bowl star. We’re big football fans here in Miami.”

Payton (translation of): “Look, I’m retired now. You gotta leave the game while you’re still on top, you know? But I got some pals here who are going to show you the ropes.”

Look at these little guys go!

These fur-tastic friends are all hoping to get a new leash on life at the shelter’s big tailgate watch party, which also doubles as an adoption event.

Annette Jose: “Payton wants you to come and meet all his puppy friends and all our shelter dogs that are waiting to go home.”

Now that is some puppy love!

Payton already found his fur-ever home, but all those other puppies you just saw, and a bunch of other great doggies, will be up for adoption at Sunday’s event. The party kicks off at noon.

Celebrate girl power this Galentine’s Day at Rosa Sky in Brickell https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/celebrate-girl-power-this-galentines-day-at-rosa-sky-in-brickell/ Wed, 07 Feb 2024 01:09:57 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1409625 Hey, Shireen! What did the lime say to the margarita on Valentine’s Day? Lime yours! That’s cute. But tonight, we’re celebrating a better match made in heaven on Deco.

Move over, cupid! Because just before Valentine’s Day, there’s a holiday that’s all about celebrating friendship.

Spice Girls (singing): “If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends. Make it last forever.”

You tell ’em, girls!

Jennifer Lopez (singing): “Who runs the world? Girls! Who runs the world? Girls!”

Because this Feb. 13.

Shania Twain: “Man, I feel like a woman.”

It’s all about girl power at Rosa Sky in Brickell!

Lorena Garcia: “Our goal with this venue was to empower and spoil the beautiful women of Miami. It’s sophisticated. It’s sexy and it’s a beautiful lounge.”

This rooftop bar is throwing the ultimate.

Group of Girls: “Galentine’s!”

Galentine’s Day party!

Lorena Garcia: “Unlike Valentine’s Day that’s specifically focused on celebrating your significant other, Galentine’s Day is here to empower all the women in your life, all the friendships and beautiful connections.”

Dress to impress in festive colors and raise a glass to friendship! Because all ladies get a glass of rose champagne or a specialty event cocktail on the house!

Ariana Grande (singing): “I see it, I like it, I want it, I got it.”

The sky’s the limit when it comes to making this a night to remember. Because there are lots of photo-op spaces to help you capture the memories!

Lorena Garcia: “We have our brand new, super cute heart balloon wall with red and pink balloons. We also have our gals wall where you can take pictures with your gals and honestly, every spot at Rosa Sky offers a beautiful Instagrammable moment with the classic Miami skyline.”

Or if you’d rather have someone else do it for you.

Lorena Garcia: “We also have one of our girls walking around taking cute Polaroid pictures of you and your besties.”

Polaroids aren’t the only thing you’ll take home.

Lorena Garcia: “In our do-it-yourself bouquet station, we have someone on hand to help you pick your favorite roses and flowers, in order to take a bouquet home with you. It’s a really sweet way to feel special and remember the night.”

Like all holidays, Galentine’s Day only happens once a year. But great friendships can last a lifetime.

Lorena Garcia: “This city moves super fast, and it’s important to take at least one day out of the year to celebrate the gals in your life. Your friendships, your support system, and everybody that makes everything worth living for.”

To make sure you get that free drink when you walk in, just RSVP to Rosa Sky’s Galentine’s Day party online.

23rd SOBEWFF to feature new events in Coconut Grove, Hallandale Beach along with return of fan favorites https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/23rd-sobewff-to-feature-new-events-in-coconut-grove-hallandale-beach-along-with-return-of-fan-favorites/ Sat, 03 Feb 2024 02:54:36 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1407957 If you haven’t had dinner yet, we’re sorry to tell you, you’re about to get a whole lot hungrier. The South Beach Wine & Food Festival is quickly approaching. Deco’s got a look at some of the many ways to wine and dine.

Here’s some food for thought…

Robert Irvine, South Beach Wine & Food Festival: “There are many food and wine festivals around the world. Number one is Miami.”

You can’t argue with that.

Marcus Samuelsson: “The festival has really been a driver for me to be able to come down here and get to know the community.”

If the biggest chefs in the world are saying it…

Amanda Freitag: “Everybody just loves being here. As soon as you get here, it’s the warm air, it’s the sunshine, the beach. It’s a whole different vibe.”

…it’s gotta be true!

The South Beach Wine & Food Festival is a SoFlo institution.

Lee Schrager, South Beach Wine & Food Festival: “It’s just great to be back celebrating 23 years, to eat, drink and educate here in South Florida, to raise funds and awareness and the opportunity for the students at the Chaplin School at [Florida International University].”

Events like Burger Bash and the Grand Tasting Village are fan-favorite staples … but this year, the fest is cooking up something new.

Lee Schrager: “Sunset Feast — again, another brand-new signature event in Coconut Grove at The Hangar. It’s really kind of a mini Best of the Best, but for South Miami.”

Broward County is also getting in on the foodie action. The Hallandale Beach Food and Groove event is sure to pack a flavor punch.

Lee Schrager: “Hallandale is just a city that really wants to expose all the great talent up in that area. For people who don’t wanna make the trek from Fort Lauderdale, it’s kind of a halfway point.”

You can always count on Miami to get lit, especially at an event called Heritage Fire.

Eileen Andrade: “Heritage Fire is a great event, because there’s a little bit of something for everybody. It’s mainly focused on open-fire cooking.”

SoFlo restaurant Amelia’s 1931 won in 2023, and they’re definitely hungry for more.

Eileen Andrade: “We definitely have a title to defend.”

Chef Eric Benitez: “The stakes are really high. I’m holding myself to a whole ‘nother level. “

Chef Eric Benitez took home the gold with his porchetta. It’s a rolled pork belly dish that’s marinated in a mojo sauce.

Chef Eric Benitez: “And then, what we did was slow cook it so you get a nice chicharron skin on the outside. And then a couple of pickled veggies and fresh herbs on top.”

The restaurant’s not giving anything away when it comes to what they’re whipping up for the event. Buuuut….

Chef Eric Benitez: “All I can say is, it’ll make an impact. We’re gonna go and make a show, so it’s definitely something that is gonna wow people.”

Spiders and icons and dolls, oh my! February movie releases go from superhero thrills to military intrigue https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/spiders-and-icons-and-dolls-oh-my-february-movie-releases-go-from-superhero-thrills-to-military-intrigue/ Fri, 02 Feb 2024 05:27:49 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1407561 February is the month of love, and not just the romantic kind. Movie lovers also have a lot to look forward to. Deco’s drawing a big old heart around some of this month’s most anticipated releases.

Dakota Johnson (as Cassie Webb/Madame Web): “This is an emergency. Get off the train. That man is trying to kill you.”

Isabella Merced (as Anya Corazon): “Why?”

Sydney Sweeney (Julia Cornwall): “Who are you? What is going on?”

Dakota Johnson (as Cassie Webb/Madame Web): “I can see the future.”

Move over, Spider-Man. The girls are calling the shots in the new superhero flick “Madame Web.”

Dakota Johnson plays Cassie, a paramedic who starts showing powers after a near-death experience.

Dakota Johnson: “I have always really loved Marvel movies. Madame Web was very enticing to me. She’s hyper-intelligent, and her greatest superpower is her mind.”

Liam Hemsworth (as Kinney): “Reaper, you there? Reaper?”

Russell Crowe (as Reaper): “We’re here, playboy. You’ve got to get your ass on the move. Hang in there, OK?”

Liam Hemsworth is in a world of trouble in “Land of Bad,” and it’s up to Russell Crowe to help get him home.

The action thriller follows a soldier stranded in enemy territory when a mission goes wrong … and the air support team trying to keep him alive until help arrives.

Beanie Feldstein (as Sukie): “Did the two creeps find you?”

Margaret Qualley (as Jamie): “They know we have their stuff. Maybe we sell it back, shake ’em down.”

Haley Holmes (as Soccer Girl): “Are they like wanted or something?”

Joey Slotnick (as Arliss): “Oh, no, they’re not in trouble at all.”

A road trip turns into complete chaos in “Drive-Away Dolls.”

Two friends rent a car for a little getaway to Tallahassee, only to discover a mysterious briefcase in the trunk. Now they’re being chased by a group of bad guys that includes Colman Domingo. Oh, and Matt Damon is in this, too, because why not?!

Kingsley Ben-Adir (as Bob Marley): “Reggae’s the people music.”

Character in “Bob Marley: One Love”: “You know you’re a superstar?”

Kingsley Ben-Adir (as Bob Marley): “I ain’t a superstar.”

One love, one movie. The story of reggae icon Bob Marley comes to the big screen in the new biographical musical titled “Bob Marley: One Love.”

The film stars Kingsley Ben-Adir as the prolific singer and chronicles his life, from his rise to fame to his death in 1981.

Kingsley Ben-Adir: “To find his vulnerability, in a way that felt truthful, took a lot of nuancing. Can’t just put Bob in a scene where he’s crying because it’s not real, and that was the instruction from Jamaica: ‘Bob’s not soft.'”

Concert crowd (singing): “Every little thing, is gonna be alright.”

‘Lisa Frankenstein’ stars Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse dish on making ’80s-set horror comedy https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/lisa-frankenstein-stars-kathryn-newton-and-cole-sprouse-dish-on-making-80s-set-horror-comedy/ Thu, 01 Feb 2024 02:43:23 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1407094 Let’s be honest: sometimes we all probably feel a little bit like a zombie. Tired, groggy, barely keeping it together … especially without caffeine.

The new horror comedy “Lisa Frankenstein” is bringing the monster energy. We’re digging up the deets on this coming-of-rage story with Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse.

Kathryn Newton (as Lisa): “There’s a young man. I tend his grave. I talk to him. (to the grave) I wish I was with you.”

Be careful what you wish for.

Cole Sprouse (as The Creature): “Ooooo, ahhh!”

Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse are having one killer romance in “Lisa Frankenstein.”

Kathryn Newton (as Lisa): “I can’t do that. Not until we bury the body.”

She’s a misunderstood teen goth girl, and he’s the Victorian-era corpse she accidentally brings back to life.

Kathryn Newton (as Lisa): “We got each other’s back, that’s for sure.”

Having that kind of dynamic is definitely a good thing when it comes to this movie, because Cole doesn’t talk for most of their scenes together.

Kathryn Newton: “Cole Sprouse speaks incessantly. He actually doesn’t stop.”

Cole Sprouse: “Yeah, yeah.”

Kathryn Newton: “It was so nice filming this.”

Cole Sprouse: “You should hear my voicemail. It’s horrible.”

Kathryn Newton: “Because he doesn’t stop talking in real life.”

Cole Sprouse: “Yeah, it’s true. That’s what we were really excited about for this.”

Kathryn Newton: “Was that he stops speaking.”

Cole Sprouse: “You guys were almost like, ‘Finally, he’ll shut up.'”

Sparks may be flying between their characters in the movie…

Kathryn Newton (as Lisa): “I wanna help you, but Taffy says it’s a waste of time to try and fix a boy. It’s better to just accept a guy’s flaws.”

…but Kathryn and Cole have been buds for years, meaning they can joke around while discovering new things about each other.

Kathryn Newton: “I learned that Cole Sprouse says he won’t – he’s not hungry, but then he’ll eat your food, 100%. So, if you’re gonna hang out with Cole…”

Cole Sprouse: “I learned that Kathryn Newton always brings extra food just for me. She’s planned it. It’s like a mouse trap.”

Jenna Davis (as Lori): “Lisa looks good.”

Liza Soberano (as Taffy): “She could probably even do pageants if she had congeniality.”

Lisa Frankenstein is set in the ’80s, meaning the fashion is big and bold. That’s why we wanted to know what kind of styles make these two feel empowered when they rock them.

Kathryn Newton: “I wore sweatpants, but I had these giant pink platform Versace heels and my little pink Chanel classic. It’s ’cause I’m from Miami. It’s just, like, the more extra I am, the more confident I feel.”

She totally gets me.

Cole Sprouse: “I have these kind of zip-off cargo pants, and they make me feel fast.”

Kathryn Newton: “Do you mean the ones that zip on the knee?”

Cole Sprouse: “Yeah, and they can turn into shorts.”

Kathryn Newton: “My dad wears those. Like, he doesn’t change. You should…”

Cole Sprouse: “Yeah, but if it’s cold, like, in the beginning of the day or at night, you got the pants. But in the middle of the day, when it’s hot, you’ve got the shorts.”

Kathryn Newton: “You can cool off.”

Cole Sprouse: “You can cool off a bit.”

Sylvia Grace Krim (as Officer Waters): “I really hope this goth phase ends soon.”

“Lisa Frankenstein” opens in theaters Feb. 9.

SoFlo resident Ryan O’Sullivan wins Season 22 of ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ contest, is headed to Las Vegas https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/soflo-resident-ryan-osullivan-wins-season-22-of-hells-kitchen-contest-is-headed-to-las-vegas/ Sat, 27 Jan 2024 02:30:54 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1405123 The way to a man’s heart is really through his cat. I can tell you this. Shout out to my girl, Juniper. She’s watching right now! But I guess stomach is a close second.

We love a man who can cook, especially when they’re right here in the 305, South Florida, and they’re the winner of season 22 of “Hell’s Kitchen.”

Gordon Ramsay: “The chef whose door opens will become the winner and take up that amazing role as my head chef at Hell’s Kitchen Las Vegas.”

And the winner is…

Gordon Ramsay: “One, two, three.”

Local chef Ryan O’Sullivan came out on top in the grand finale of “Hell’s Kitchen: The American Dream.”

Ryan O’Sullivan: “When I got to the doors, and it finally opened for me, it was just such a weight off my shoulders. Surprised, happy, sad. It was a mixed bag of emotions.”

Basically all the feels, right?

Ryan O’Sullivan: “As I walked down the stairs, and I saw my wife and my dad, I just kept saying, ‘I told you I’d do it, I told you I’d do it,’ because I believe in myself.”

Ryan is originally from Ireland, but he’s been living in West Palm Beach for the past few years. We caught up with him at the InterContinental Hotel in downtown Miami.

Ryan O’Sullivan: “I moved over here, you know, six years ago, by myself, to try and make a life for myself.”

Ryan got to share his big night with two fellow contestants he became really close to: second runner up, Sammi…

Johnathan Benvenuti: “Oh these are beautiful, these are beautiful.”

Ryan O’Sullivan: “Yeah, these look great.”

Johnathan Benvenuti: “Let’s [expletive] go. Woooo!”

And his roommate and first runner-up, Johnathan.

Johnathan Benvenuti: “It was outrageous. This season of ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ has changed my life completely. Sammi and Ryan are my best friends in the whole world, and I think everybody sees that on camera, and it comes off genuine.”

Ryan O’Sullivan: “We just gave each other notes and bounced off each other. There was no tenacity. There was no head to head. We just wanted each other to succeed.”

As for what’s next for these guys…

Johnathan Benvenuti: “I would love to own my own restaurant. That’s really the dream.”

And, is Ryan saying “goodbye So-Flo, hello Sin City” in the near future?

Ryan O’Sullivan: “I’m not exactly too sure when that’s gonna be. It’s all up in the air at the moment. But I can’t wait to start, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.”

Gordon Ramsay: “Please, off you go.”

Ariana DeBose lifts off in new sci-fi space thriller ‘I.S.S.’ https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/ariana-debose-lifts-off-in-new-sci-fi-space-thriller-i-s-s/ Sat, 20 Jan 2024 01:31:19 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1402616 Houston, we have a problem! Actually, we don’t … but the astronauts in the new movie “I.S.S.” sure do when war breaks out on the world below them. Deco’s cleared for liftoff with the cast and crew.

John Gallagher Jr. (as Christian Campbell): “The Russians always knock three times. I think it’s just a superstition.”

Pilou Asbæk (as Alexey Pulov): “Welcome!”

It’s all zero-gravity fun, games, and camaraderie.

Costa Ronin (as Nicholai Pulov): “We don’t talk politics. Here we are one.”

Until…

Ariana DeBose (as Dr. Kira Foster) “War has broken out below, and we were told to take the I.S.S. By any means necessary.”

Ariana DeBose is thrust into survival mode in the new sci-fi space thriller “I.S.S.” Talk about being on edge!

Ariana DeBose: “That’s sort of the world we’re living in, too. Some of us are holding our breath, you know what I mean?”

The film takes place inside the International Space Station, where the American and Russian astronauts suddenly find themselves pitted against each other.

Complete chaos in the great unknown? It’s a challenge Ariana fully embraced.

Ariana DeBose: “The way that I approached this was that I knew nothing at all, right? Like, this is so vastly different from anything I’d ever done, anyway. So I had undying faith in this woman right here to sort of lead me through it.”

That woman is director Gabriela Cowperthwaite. She tells Deco she was interested in exploring the importance of human connection in an isolated space.

Gabriela Cowperthwaite: “What do you do? You create human bonds. You trust the person in front of you. That’s what we have; we cling to each other. And so, that, I wanted to sort of be this through line throughout the movie.”

The cast may not have shot the film in space, but they definitely had to make it look like they did. Easier said than done!

Ariana DeBose: “I felt like I found I was using every muscle in my body to try and look weightless. Myself and my fellow actors were in harness this whole movie, which is inherently very uncomfortable, but when you think about zero gravity, you have no control.”

One thing Ariana and Gabriela do have control over is supporting other women in film.

Ariana DeBose: “I think women are really showing up and showing out in cinema right now.”

With awards season well underway, we wanted to know about their favorite performances in the past year.

Ariana DeBose: “I was really into “Saltburn.” It was kinda weird, but Rosamund Pike for the win, like, let’s go!”

Gabriela Cowperthwaite: “Unbelievable.”

Ariana DeBose: “Unbelievable.”

Ariana DeBose: “Carey Mulligan in ‘Maestro.’ Danielle Brooks, Da’Vine Joy.”

Gabriela Cowperthwaite: “Lily Gladstone just took it. Emily Blunt in ‘Oppenheimer.'”

Ariana DeBose: “Emma Stone, ‘Poor Things.'”

Gabriela Cowperthwaite: “Which I haven’t seen, either. I gotta get on this.”

Ariana DeBose: “Girl!”

Gabriela Cowperthwaite: “I know, it’s ridiculous.”

Ariana DeBose: “We gotta have a watch party.”

Gabriela Cowperthwaite: “We gotta have a watch party.”

Masha Mashkova (as Weronika Vetrov): “We’re evolved species.”

“I.S.S” is now playing in theaters.

Check out the wickedly sweet treats at Wicked Bread Co. in Plantation https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/check-out-the-wickedly-sweet-treats-at-wicked-bread-co-in-plantation/ Thu, 18 Jan 2024 01:35:50 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1401652 When most people use the phrase “let’s get this bread,” they are talking about money. But not us. Here at Deco Drive, we want actual bread, the delicious and dessert kind. Deco’s checking out a new SoFlo spot that’s dishing out wickedly sweet treats that are wicked good.

Something spook-tacular is cooking in Plantation.

Eddie Diaz: “We call ourselves Wicked Bread because the bread is just wicked good.”

Wicked Bread Co. is casting a sinfully sweet spell on dessert lovers, thanks to its signature cinnamon bread.

Eddie Diaz: “Cinnamon bread is the perfect combination of bread and a cinnamon roll. It’s fluffy, it’s flavorful.”

But don’t just take his word for it.

Alex Calante: “I need to get my fix at least once a week. I come all the way from Kendall to eat here.”

It is love at first bite. The bakery’s OG cinnamon bread comes topped with a homemade cream cheese icing.

But that’s just the beginning.

Eddie Diaz: “For all of our loaves, the cinnamon bread is the base, and everything gets piled on top.”

Craving that salty-sweet combination? Get the best of both worlds with the Six Degrees of Maple Bacon.

Eddie Diaz: “We have a maple glaze, we add bacon, and then an additional drizzle of maple glaze.”

Alex Calante: “By far the best one. That’s my favorite one. I need to get it every time I’m here. The bacon is cooked to perfection, and the sweetness with the saltiness, it just goes perfect.”

You can’t go wrong with a crunch. Especially when it’s Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

Eddie Diaz: “Another really popular loaf, we top it with the traditional cream cheese icing, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and condensed milk. If you’re into sweetness, this is the one to get.”

If the name and decor weren’t enough of a hint that Wicked Bread Co. is all in when it comes to spooky vibes…

Eddie Diaz: “The theme when you walk in is pretty much as if you were walking into a witch’s cottage.”

The name of this next tasty treat says it all.

Eddie Diaz: “The Black Magic is another really popular one. That one’s covered with peanut butter, it has crushed Oreos, and we add a chocolate drizzle to that, and that’s just a chocolate lover’s dream.”

There’s even a rotating cinnamon bread that changes monthly, like this Hex and the City One. But…

Eddie Diaz: “People love the bread so much, we tend to run out before we even close, so if you want it, come early.”

Skeleton: “This cinnamon bread is to die for. Trust me, I know!”

In addition to the cinnamon bread, Wicked Bread Co. also has a fun twist on a classic pigs in a blanket. It’s a Cajun sausage wrapped in pasty and drizzled with a maple glaze. Now that’s what I call sweet and spicy!

Jason Statham corrects the system in new action film ‘The Beekeeper’ https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/jason-statham-corrects-the-system-in-new-action-film-the-beekeeper/ Sat, 13 Jan 2024 01:56:54 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1400068 Jason Statham is giving new meaning to the phrase ‘”busy as a bee.” That’s because the actor’s got his hands full of fighting bad guys in his brand-new movie. In fact, they’re feeling the sting, Deco’s getting the buzz on “The Beekeeper.”

Jeremy Irons (as Wallace Westwyld): “Beekeepers is a special program outside the chain of command.”

Jason Statham (as Adam Clay): “I protect the hive. When the system is out of balance, I correct it.”

Jason Statham is buzzing in the new action flick “The Beekeeper.”

Emmy Raver-Lampman (as Agent Verona Parker): “We have laws for these things!”

Jason Statham (as Adam Clay): “Until they fail. Then you have me.”

The actor plays a retired operative who’s out for revenge after a phishing scam company causes his friend’s death, and trust me, he means business.

John Statham: “He’s one of these guys that doesn’t really exist. He’s almost like this ghost that comes in and course-corrects what’s leaning to the left when it should be right in the middle.”

Jason is no stranger to kicking butt and taking names. But in this movie, it’s his friendship with Phylicia Rashad’s character that drives him forward.

Phylicia Rashad (as Eloise Parker): “You’re a blessing, Mr. Clay. This place was crabgrass and weeds, and you brought it back to life.”

Phylicia Rashad: “Eloise is the first person who ever took care of him. That means a lot to him.”

Jason Statham (as Adam Clay): “Do you know what they do here? Scamming the weakest in our society.”

Peter Brooke (as Lewis) “Buddy, I’m counting to three.”

Jason Statham (as Adam Clay): “One, two, three.”

The phishing scam is just the tip of the bad guy iceberg.

Minnie Driver (as Director Janet Harward) “The money is going all over the world, to people in finance, even government.”

That’s where Josh Hutcherson’s Derek comes in.

Josh Hutcherson: “He’s an absolute maniac who is, you know, high on power, high on money and high on many substances.”

Oh, and by the way, he’s also the president’s son.

Josh Hutcherson: “He wants something that’s his dirty little secret, that no one else can touch, and operating outside the bounds of law when his mom is the commander-in-chief, there’s something that just gets that part of him going.”

Too bad his mom being the top dog is not gonna save him from Jason.

John Statham: “The law is the law. But when it fails, sometimes the law gets in the way of what right and wrong is. We’re trying to keep things very real, very dangerous and very efficient.”

Jason Statham (as Adam Clay): “I figured I’d give the firefighters a break.”

Dan Li (as Agent Kim): “Somebody detain this guy.”

“The Beekeeper” is now buzzing in theaters.

Jodie Foster plays Alaska police chief trying to solve mystery as anthology crime series ‘True Detective’ returns for Season 4 https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/jodie-foster-plays-alaska-police-chief-trying-to-solve-mystery-as-anthology-crime-series-true-detective-returns-for-season-4/ Fri, 12 Jan 2024 01:55:33 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1399672 You’ve heard of prime time, but tonight on Deco, it’s crime time! The fictional kind, of course.

A new season of “True Detective” premieres this weekend. Deco is on the case.

Jodie Foster (as Liz Danvers): “I’m working on this case. Eight missing scientists, found on the edge of the villages, frozen solid.”

Jodie Foster’s got a mystery on her hands in “True Detective: Night Country.”

Jodie Foster (as Liz Danvers): “Burnt eyeballs, self-inflicted wounds. Those men died before they froze.”

The Oscar winner plays a police chief in Alaska who’s forced to team up with an old partner, played by Kali Reis, to solve a creepy crime.

Jodie Foster (as Liz Danvers): “Why are you here?”

Kali Reis (as Evangeline Navarro): “Because we both know what really happened. You need my help. I’ve seen that before.”

Jodie Foster: “I like that sisterhood. It’s something that we don’t see on screen very much, that there is a little bit of competition in that sisterhood, but also a real respect, professional respect.”

Season 4 of the anthology crime series explores the seemingly supernatural through the lens of the native Alaskan community, which is something showrunner Issa López felt strongly about representing.

Issa López: “Instead of the native stories being the background for the white characters actually doing the stuff, it will be great to have at least one of the detectives that is native, making the decisions and creating the change.”

And, because the show is set during a time in Alaska when the sun never comes up, the environment helps drive the story forward.

Kali Reis: “The darkness is this character in itself, and it actually helps kind of put the story together. You really don’t know when in time, when in space that you’re in, but you’re in this whole different universe, in this place that things, some weird things happen.”

Jodie Foster (as Liz Danvers) “The night country. It takes us, one by one.”

Jennifer Lopez (singing): “I’m still in love with you, boy.”

Jennifer Lopez: “Now, I love a love song, but I need something that I can perform. You know, like, I’m always thinking about performing and dancing whenever I’m making music. I actually make music so that I can perform.”

Wedding guest (acting): “I told you she couldn’t be alone.”

Wedding guest (acting): “This guy don’t stand a chance.”

Jennifer Lopez: “I discussed it with Ben, of all people. Not that he’s ever made videos or anything like that, but I just trust his opinion and his kind of ideas.”

Jennifer Lopez (singing): “I let you keep me to yourself.”

Jennifer Lopez: “Nobody kinda knows my story, or me, more than he does. I really feel like he gets me and understands me.”

Jennifer Lopez (singing): “Is this real life?”

Wedding guest: “Don’t catch it, it’s cursed.”

Jennifer Lopez (singing): “Take me all night. I can feel the passion.”

Jennifer Lopez: “What I want to tell you with this album is that true love actually exists, it really does, and some things are forever. Forever is real.”

Jennifer Lopez (singing): “I’m still in love.”

J.Lo’s ninth album, titled “This Is Me Now,” is out Feb. 16. There’s also going to be a documentary film about it dropping the same day on Amazon Prime.

50 Cent, Cardi B, Nicki Minaj among artists descending on SoFlo to say goodbye to 2023 https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/50-cent-cardi-b-nicki-minaj-among-artists-descending-on-soflo-to-say-goodbye-to-2023/ Fri, 29 Dec 2023 01:19:40 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1395134 It’s hard to find a New Year’s Eve like we have here in South Florida, and this year’s festivities are shaping up to be bigger and better — and hotter — than ever.

But don’t just take my word for it. Deco’s got a look at all the superstars saying goodbye to 2023 with a performance in SoFlo.

50 Cent (rapping): “You can find me in the club, bottle full of bub mama i got what you need, if you need to fell the buzz.”

You’ll definitely find 50 Cent “in da club” this weekend. The rapper is ringing in 2024 in SoFlo.

50 will get the party started on Saturday with a set at E11EVEN Miami.

And on New Year’s Eve, he’s gonna be hitting up Club M2 in Miami Beach.

Afrojack: “One, two, one, two, three, let’s go!”

There ain’t no party like an Afrojack party. Just ask all the folks who show up year after year to see him at Ultra Music Festival.

The Dutch DJ will be dropping some sick beats at DAER Nightclub on the 31st. That’s at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood. Totally worth the drive, if you ask me.

Cardi B (rapping) “Five, four, three, two, one, lift off. Honey, i’m home, shoes gettin’ kicked off. Every time i turn around, i get pissed off.”

Don’t be tardy for the Cardi party. Cardi B is ready to help you start 2024 off right at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach.

She’s gonna be playing poolside on New Year’s Eve so grab some dancing shoes and get ready to tropic like it’s hot.

Offset (singing): “Jet goin’ Thailand, when I got a show. Learn how to finance when I got a load. Took her out a Scion, put her in a Rolls.”

It’s the battle of the exes at the Fontainebleau, because while Cardi’s performing outside, her estranged hubby Offset will be getting lit at the hotel’s LIV Nightclub. I wonder who’s gonna draw the bigger crowd.

Nicki Minaj rapping) “I got a princess face, a killer body, samurai mind. They can’t be Nicki, they so stupid, I just laugh when they try.”

The start of the 2024 isn’t the only big thing happening when the clock strikes 12 on New Year’s Day. SoFlo Barbs rejoice, because Nicki Minaj is taking the stage at E11EVEN Miami at midnight.

The party kicks off on the 31st at 8 p.m in the club … but you better pace yourself — drink your water — so you can end the night singing along with Nicki.

Nicki Minaj (rapping) “He want an F-R-E-A-K.”

3D holiday designs from NailBox Miami in Little Havana add festive flair to the season https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/3d-holiday-designs-from-nailbox-miami-in-little-havana-add-festive-flair-to-the-season/ Thu, 21 Dec 2023 05:08:42 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1393263 Christmas is only a few days away, and I know what you’re thinking: “I’ve got to get my nails done.” If you’re looking for inspo or for an appointment, don’t you worry. Deco is checking a really cool SoFlo spot that’s making manicures merry and bright.

Bad day? Don’t worry. NailBox Miami in Little Havana is gonna make everything merry and bright.

Karen Elmir: “I’ve been coming here since they opened, and I always leave super happy. I think that their nail techs do the best designs.”

Daniel Moran: “Every time I come here, I bring an idea. I always want 3D, more glitter.”

Ciro Orizondo: “We do very detailed nail art — a 3D chrome, anything popping out of your nails, any magnets that we can stick on your nails, almost anything you have on your mind, we can make it come to life.”

Really? OK, I have holidays designs on my mind. What ya got?

Ciro Orizondo: “You’re gonna see a lot of Christmas-themed nails.”

Like this sweet candy cane design.

Ciro Orizondo: “We really wanted Christmas to come to life on our customers’ nails.”

Things really come to life when these red-themed holiday creations hit your nails, and their 3D artwork is definitely going to get you noticed.

Daniel Moran: “What I love about it is that I always get compliments. Not everybody can really execute this kind of art.”

But if you wanna be chill, you can let it snow, or just try the wintry and icy look.

Adrianna Perez: “I’m more of a winter vibe. I’m going to New York next week, so I feel like these will really stand out, and they’re so cute.”

Karen Elmir: “I like short nails, and I was going for, like, a glitzy vibe.”

Now, perfection takes time.

Ciro Orizondo: “So we really want to make the customer feel at home, so we give them mimosas and coffee, so they can come and relax.”

Karen Elmir: “I love coming here because they make you feel like family. The nail techs do an amazing job.”

Santa and the Grinch to deck the halls at Shoma Bazaar’s holiday-themed pop-up in Doral https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/santa-and-the-grinch-to-deck-the-halls-at-shoma-bazaars-holiday-themed-pop-up-in-doral/ Fri, 15 Dec 2023 02:03:14 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1391423 It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and that’s not just a song. There’s lights and decorations everywhere.

It’ll be here before you know it. That’s why one spot in Doral wants to help you get ready to deck the halls.

Santa Claus: “Merry Christmas. Ho, ho, ho!”

Santa Claus is feeling extra jolly tonight, and it’s not just because Christmas is only 11 days away.

He and his pal — OK, maybe more like frenemy — the Grinch are getting ready to deck the halls at Shoma Bazaar’s holiday-themed pop-up this Sunday.

Stephanie Shojaee: “We wanted to bring a little bit of the North Pole down to Doral, and we really took the time to pick the best pop-up vendors to be here to help you find gifts. Santa will be here. The kids can meet him, take pictures with him, tell him what they want for Christmas. And as far as the Grinch, you never really know when he’s gonna pop up next to your table.”

Gotta be careful with the Grinch. He’s sneaky.

Shoma Bazaar will also have a morning yoga class … and because it’s always 5 o’clock somewhere, the bar will have three specialty drinks on hand: the Sour Grinch, coquito and, of course, eggnog.

The festivities start at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

‘Family Plan’ stars Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Monaghan talk about making new action comedy https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/family-plan-stars-mark-wahlberg-michelle-monaghan-talk-about-making-new-action-comedy/ Thu, 14 Dec 2023 03:41:24 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1391057 Sometimes Lynn secretly eats bean burritos in her car. Pretty much everybody has secrets, but they’re usually not the “double life, need a new identity” kind. (I like eating in my car, too.) Those stories are saved for the big screen. Deco’s suiting up for action with the cast of “The Family Plan.”

Michelle Monaghan (as Jessica Morgan): “Dan, my husband. He’s an amazing dad.”

Mark Wahlberg (as Dan Morgan): “You’re almost ready to go a size 4S, huh? Ah, you’re so big. Look at the big muscles.”

Michelle Monaghan (as Jessica Morgan): “I just wish our lives were … bigger.”

Be careful what you wish for.

Mark Wahlberg (as Dan Morgan): “I need new identities, I’m burnt. Me and my wife and three kids.”

Saïd Taghmaoui (as Augie): “Have you told them yet?”

Mark Wahlberg (as Dan Morgan): “I’ll tell them when I’m on the road. Meet me in Vegas in three days.”

Michelle Monaghan (as Jessica Morgan): “This is crazy.”

Mark Wahlberg is a man on the run, in the new action comedy “The Family Plan.”

Mark Wahlberg: “He’s obviously got a dark secret, and as soon as he gets into a bit of trouble, which ends up going viral, then he knows he’s gonna be in immediate danger, and he’s gotta get his family out of this.”

The big, dark secret is…

Mark Wahlberg (as Dan Morgan): “Before I met your mom, I was a covert assassin. I escaped that life, and now they found us.”

Mark Wahlberg: “I just thought it was really fun. I think, you know, you see a lot of action movies, especially a lot of action comedies, and they don’t have as much character as this one had.”

“The Family Plan” reunites Mark with his “Patriots Day” co-star, Michelle Monaghan.

Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Monaghan (as Dan and Jessica Morgan): “Alright, stop, collaborate, and listen. Ice is back with a brand new invention. Something grabs a hold of me.”

Zoe Margaret Colletti (as Nina Morgan): “Please stop.”

Michelle Monaghan: “He has such a wonderful range as an actor, and he’s super talented. And, to be able to connect with him on this was really, really cool.”

Mark Wahlberg: “With this, we’re just having fun, so seeing her doing comedy, doing the action, as well as us just having great chemistry, you know?”

All right, all right, tell us how you really feel about working with Michelle.

Mark Wahlberg: “I don’t say this after every movie. She’s definitely, probably the most fun to work with of all my film experiences. And she’s just so focused; she brings so much to the table.”

Speaking of singing praises, Ciarán Hinds may play the film’s bad guy…

Ciarán Hinds (as McCaffrey): “Call in everybody.”

…but he’s got a soft spot for Mark in real life.

Ciarán Hinds: “Great honor, great pleasure to work with him. You realize how fit and how dynamic and how brilliant he is, actually — how speedy, how lively, how inventive. Basically, I try and keep up.”

Keeping up is harder than it sounds, because Mr. Walhberg is showing no signs of slowing down.

Mark Wahlberg: “I’m a dad now. I’m embracing my old age. A lot of guys my age in the business would probably say, ‘I don’t wanna play that old.’ I’m embracing that. I look forward to playing a grandfather soon.”

Mark Wahlberg (as Dan Morgan): “Bang.”

Michelle Monaghan (as Jessica Morgan): “I’m kinda into spontaneous, Dan.”

“The Family Plan” starts streaming on Apple TV+ starting Friday.

Upcoming holiday movies to make you laugh and cry https://wsvn.com/entertainment/upcoming-holiday-movies-to-make-you-laugh-and-cry/ Tue, 12 Dec 2023 01:02:46 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1390182 It’s not just the holiday season, it’s movie season, baby. The year may almost be over, but there are still lots of movies coming to the big screen soon and we’ve got a look at some star-studded events celebrating the two movies coming soon to a theater near you.

The Mallard family may be taking flight in the animated film “Migration.”

But the film’s voice cast was perched and posing as they hit the red carpet for special screening in LA.

Elizabeth Banks and Kumail Nanjiani play parents but he’s overprotective, while she longs for adventure.

It’s a story both stars really connected with.

Kumail Nanjiani: “A dad trying to decide whether it’s time to let the kids go off and have their own adventure or is it better to keep them definitely safe?”

Elizabeth Banks: “What do we pass on to our kids? What are we telling our kids about the world around them? That they should be afraid of it or that they should embrace it?”

The ducks aren’t the only ones flying the coop. Awkwafina voices a New York native that helps the family on their journey.

Awkwafina: “It’s just an honor to play a pigeon, one with attitude. It’s been so fun.”

What’s better than one star-studded special screening in tinsel town? Two of them.

And the cast “All of Us Strangers” was ready to open up about their new film.

Andrew Scott: “The main thing about this movie is that it’s so tender and vulnerable. I think that’s why it’s punching people in the heart.”

Andrew Scott plays a screenwriter who suddenly finds his parents alive and well in his childhood home, 30 years after their death.

Andrew Scott: “It’s an extraordinary script and an extraordinary role to play. I saw an awful lot of myself in a strange way or at least I felt that I had to bring myself to the character, and it was a beautiful, beautiful experience.”

Claire Foy and Jamie Bell co-star as the parents in question, and they this story will hit home for a lot of people.

Claire Foy: “I hope it just moves people. I just really do. I think it really sort of does basically and it’s amazing to see.”

Jamie Bell: “I think the message of this film is if there is an opportunity for connection or love, no matter what has happened to you, the trauma you’ve been through, the loss you have suffered, it is worth it.”

SoFlo home cook Lorenzo Ramos lands coveted spot on ‘MasterChef Junior: Home for the Holidays’ https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/soflo-home-cook-lorenzo-ramos-lands-coveted-spot-on-masterchef-junior-home-for-the-holidays/ Sat, 09 Dec 2023 05:21:09 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1389533 Being on a reality competition show is tough enough when you’re an adult. Imagine if you’re a kid!

“MasterChef Junior: Home for the Holidays” scouted more than 1,000 contestants, but only one young chef from South Florida had the talent to make the cut.

Chef Gordon Ramsay: “That soggy, disgusting nugget sat on a bed of unwanted slaw over a gummy [expletive] purée that I’d give my granddad to paste his [expletive] new wallpaper, not to eat.”

Chef Gordon Ramsay sure can get fired up on “MasterChef,” but when it comes to MasterChef Junior”…

Chef Gordon Ramsay: “Ho! Ho! Ho!”

“MasterChef Junior” contestant: “I didn’t know Santa has a British accent.”

He’s kind of a big ol’ softie … and he and his daughter Tilly are feeling festive about the show’s new seasonal special, “MasterChef Junior: Home for the Holidays.”

Chef Gordon Ramsay: “Tilly’s been to the ‘MasterChef’ kitchen many times, but to have her here as a judge makes me feel old, and I can’t be any prouder from a dad’s point of view.”

Speaking of being proud, that’s how Deco’s feeling about SoFlo’s own Chef Lorenzo.

Lorenzo Ramos: “Since a young age, I’ve loved to cook. I mean, at first I was playing soccer, ’cause my dad thought I was gonna be Messi. But you know, I didn’t really like to run.”

What he did like was food…

Lorenzo Ramos: “My first words, you would expect ‘Mommy,’ ‘Mamá,’ ‘Papá.’ My first words were ‘carne, carne,’ which is ‘meat, meat’ in Spanish.”

…and learning to get crafty in the kitchen, even if he didn’t always get it right.

Lorenzo Ramos: “Being a chef is hard, but it’s like, you learn from your mistakes, so I like that.”

It’s that drive that landed 12-year-old Lorenzo on “MasterChef Junior’s” holiday special.

Lorenzo Ramos: “Out of 1,150 kids, only nine of us. Like, that’s not even 1% so, you know, for me to get there, I feel like anything is possible.”

His parents totally agree.

Frederik Ramos: “We really feel so proud of him that he made the cut.”

Marta Ramirez: “I think it was an incredible journey for his life, because the competition and the casting was very hard.”

“MasterChef Junior: Home for the Holidays” is all about celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa-themed dishes.

While Lorenzo couldn’t give us specifics about what he cooks on the show, he did give us a demo of one of his signature dishes.

Lorenzo Ramos: “Today I’ll be making you a special tuna tartare. Make sure to use sushi grade tuna. This is ahi tuna.”

Lorenzo stacks three layers — tuna, avocado, then more tuna — then tops it with chives, some truffle, lemon zest and sea salt.

Then he adds some edible flower garnishes, and voilà!

Lorenzo Ramos: “This is a very good appetizer. You can obviously decorate it in a variety of different ways, but this is the final product.”

Now all that’s left is a taste test with his toughest critic: his big sister. Mmm, looks like this recipe is a winner!

By the way, Lorenzo’s parents did confirm his first word really was “carne.”

“MasterChef Junior: Home for the Holidays” will spice up the season during its two-night special premiere event. You can watch it Sunday and Monday at 8 p.m., right here on 7.

Enjoy interactive art exhibit as Artechouse in Miami Beach celebrates 5th anniversary https://wsvn.com/entertainment/enjoy-interactive-art-exhibit-as-artechouse-in-miami-beach-celebrates-5th-anniversary/ Wed, 06 Dec 2023 00:57:53 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1388203 Art is subjective. In fact, you can even say it’s just a pigment of your imagination. See what I did there?

But this week in SoFlo, you don’t just have to look at all the cool artwork in town. You can actually be part of it.

Deco’s own masterpiece, Alex Miranda is in Miami Beach with more.

Alex?

You don’t need a code word to fully immerse yourself in the new exhibit at Artechouse in Miami Beach.

Zach Lieberman: “So this is an exhibition called future sketches/code poems, and it’s really about kinda what is the future of art.”

Artist Zach Lieberman brings art to life by mixing mediums.

Zach Lieberman: “Using computers and technology but really to make interesting interactions, experiments. Things that take the body as input and transform it in all kinds of ways.”

Interactive is the key word here.

Zach Lieberman: “It’s art that you can experience, so you can use your voice, you can use your gesture, you can use your body, you can play, you can touch. Usually you go to a museum and you see a sign that says, you know, do not touch, and here, these are things you can experience.”

You can even, make a little mural for your favorite TV show on the reflection studies table.

Zach Lieberman: “The installation is exploring how light would reflect off those objects, so you can basically play with light. You can touch light and to me there’s something really beautiful about that.”

Color also plays a big role in this exhibit.

Zach Lieberman: “Color is such an important part of expression. Different colors evoke different feelings, so I try to weave different colors through my work. I have so much fun making this work. I have so much fun experimenting, and I wanna share that with the audience.”

Sounds like the perfect installation to celebrate Artechouse’s five year anniversary in SoFlo.

Josh Feldman: “We’re proud to showcase artists that are the artists of tomorrow and the creative means of tomorrow, telling stories and sending visitors off to far off places.”

And when it comes to the stories being told at Future sketches/code poems…

Zach Lieberman: “You come and you create a relationship with the work and it’s the feedback system that is the art. The work isn’t complete without the participant.”

The event opens to the public on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Tickets for kids start at $17 and for adults $26.

LOUD Week returns as part of Art of Black Miami — with epic fashion show to be held in Coral Gables https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/loud-week-returns-as-part-of-art-of-black-miami-with-epic-fashion-show-to-be-held-in-coral-gables/ Sat, 02 Dec 2023 02:36:38 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1387167 Not to brag, but I have been known to do some epic finger painting … but that’s nothing in comparison to what the folks over at LOUD Week are crafting up. It includes an epic fashion show in Coral Gables next week.

It’s time to get loud, SoFlo style.

LOUD Week returns to the 305 on Saturday, as part of Art of Black Miami, and it’s shaping up to be bigger, better and more vibrant than ever before.

Dr. Karine Melissa: “LOUD stands for ‘love of urban design.’ We celebrate the creatives of our culture, the Black and brown community.”

There’s fun events happening all week long, but the biggest highlight is the annual fashion show happening on Dec. 6 in Coral Gables.

Dr. Karine Melissa: “The fashion show will be right here at Bay 13 Brewery. We are going to transform this space into live artists. They’re going to be painting and doing their work live. The runway show will take place right here in the middle. The models will be walking.”

One of the featured artists is Kimlayn Jeffrey.

Kimlayn Jeffrey: “I’m really excited to be a part of LOUD, and I’m happy there’s a space for creative people to express themselves, their show, and just meet each other.”

Deco got a sneak peek of her portraits at LEVEL THREE in Aventura.

Kimlayn Jeffrey: “The art that I do, it’s always focused on people, and I use bold colors, I use lines. I use model paste, oil and acrylic paint.”

Most of Kimlayn’s pieces feature a 3D background that really makes the people she’s painting pop.

And speaking of the subjects…

Kimlayn Jeffrey: “I don’t just sketch, I obsessively sketch. I sketch so much, by the time I’m finished it looks like a finished piece. It does help the final piece because then I know where my lights, my darks, my midtones go, so it’s like a guide when I start doing my oil paint, because I’m self taught.”

When it comes to fashion, Fitness + Financial gains is changing the athleisure-wear game.

Jessyka Castillo: “Fitness + Financial Gains is a community where we’re centered around being in the best physical and financial shape of our lives.”

Founder and designer Jessyka Castillo tells Deco she started the brand out of necessity.

Jessyka Castillo: “Being a curvy girl, I couldn’t find any fitness clothes to do some of my workouts besides the color black, so I was really, really inspired to make sure that I could create a brand that’s inclusive to all skin tones. We’re gonna see some corals, some vibrant colors. We’re gonna see some blues, some neutrals.”

Fitness + Financial Gains collections are all about body positivity and function, and the goal is to have that message come across at the fashion show.

Jessyka Castillo: “A petite, extra small representation to a 3XL. There’s also inclusiveness in ageism. We want everyone to feel like they’re included.”

Fashion meets art at SETA Gallery inside South Beach’s Sagamore Hotel https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/fashion-meets-art-at-seta-gallery-inside-south-beachs-sagamore-hotel/ Thu, 30 Nov 2023 02:58:45 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1386338 They say the right outfit can make all the difference. That’s especially true around this time of year — because there’s so many events happening for Art Basel and the holidays. Deco’s checking out a spot that’s taking shopping to the next level.

Fashion meets art at the new SETA Gallery inside the Sagamore Hotel in South Beach.

SETA is a Colombian clothing brand founded by sisters Andrea and Eliana Salazar.

The name stands for “sophistication, edgy, timeless attire.”

Andrea Salazar: “Our brand is a trendsetter. We are very inspired by the ’80s and ’90s.”

Eliana Salazar: “We design for a woman that is very confident, a woman that wants to stand out, that wants to be the center of attention.”

This brand is all about inspiring women to dress up and dress differently.

Andrea Salazar: “We work with a lot of sequins, a lot of shiny materials, studs.”

Daniela Uribe: “I love it because it’s so unique. Everything is sparkles. They really have a good attention to detail. The jackets are statement pieces. And when you’re wearing it in the street, you’re always gonna going to get stopped by somebody.”

And, when it comes to shopping, this space is anything but ordinary.

Andrea Salazar: “This is our new concept: a SETA Gallery where you guys can discover our most iconic pieces, where you can see the story of the brand. You are able to shop, you can scan a QR code.”

Scanning an item’s QR code with your phone doesn’t just pull up basic info about it. It also offers some uggestions on how to style it. Talk about convenient!

Eliana Salazar: “It’s a very safe manner to shop right now, and it’s very comfortable because you don’t have to carry your bags.”

Daniela Uribe: “I’m loving it. I think it’s a true concept. It’s new, it’s fresh. Love it, avant garde.”

SETA is sharing the gallery space with swimwear brand Divino Seas.

Cristha Castella: “Right now we have just three looks here because it’s our best-sellers. We design for every type of body. It’s so important that every woman can fit our bikinis.”

Clothes designed by women, for women? Sounds like a fashion statement to me.

Binta: “I feel like anyone who wears the clothes automatically feels beautiful and confident, and there’s no way you can look bad in the clothes. They’re just so beautiful.”

Eddie Murphy, Tracee Ellis Ross and ‘Candy Cane Lane’ co-stars walk red carpet at Christmas comedy’s premiere https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/eddie-murphy-tracee-ellis-ross-and-candy-cane-lane-co-stars-walk-red-carpet-at-christmas-comedys-premiere/ Thu, 30 Nov 2023 02:20:21 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1386328 Forget rocking around the Christmas tree. Sometimes you just gotta take a stroll down Candy Cane Lane instead.

Eddie Murphy’s got a new Christmas movie dropping this week, and Hollywood rolled out its red carpet.

Eddie Murphy (as Chris Carver): “Everybody listen. This is important. I’m gonna show you guys something, and when I show you what I’m gonna show you, don’t freak out.”

Uhhh, it’s kinda hard not to freak out when Eddie Murphy’s got a new movie coming out.

But don’t just take my word for it.

Eddie Murphy: “I’m very excited. I’ve never done a Christmas movie before.”

The cast of “Candy Cane Lane” was feeling merry and bright as they hit the red carpet for the film’s world premiere in L.A.

Eddie plays a family man who unknowingly makes a deal with an evil elf to win a house decorating contest. Cue the hijinks!

Eddie Murphy: “This is a great, unique thing to do, and it came out good, I think.”

Tracee Ellis Ross, who stars as his wife, says working with the actor was an absolute joy.

Tracee Ellis Ross: “Like the rest of the world, I’ve been a fan of Eddie’s forever. He’s so funny and so talented, but the thing that I got to experience that was really special is he’s also just a wonderfully generous actor and a really sweet person.”

“Candy Cane Lane” may be a comedy, but it’s not your typical holiday film.

Nick Offerman and Jillian Bell say that’s what makes it fun.

Nick Offerman: “I can’t wait for people to see it ’cause it’s an incredible new twist on the Christmas movie.”

Jillian Bell: “I think it’s surprising how action-packed it is, and there’s a little bit of horror, but just enough for kids to be able to still watch it.”

As for Chris Redd and Mr. Murphy, they’re just happy to have a new movie to share with their families during the most wonderful time of the year.

Chris Redd: “I’m just glad I get to have a movie that my little cousins can watch, ’cause I’m not really PG in my comedy.”

Eddie Murphy: “The Christmas movies, you wanna be able to watch them over and over again, you know, every Christmas, so I think they can watch this like that.”

Eddie Murphy (as Chris Carver): “Point taken.”

“Candy Cane Lane” drops on Amazon Prime Video on Friday.

From Bruno Mars to Lauryn Hill, concerts are coming to South Florida in December https://wsvn.com/entertainment/from-bruno-mars-to-lauryn-hill-concerts-are-coming-to-south-florida-in-december/ Thu, 23 Nov 2023 17:22:44 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1384464 If November is all about the Thanksgiving food and giving gratitude, December is all about the Christmas music.

Pretty soon you won’t be able to escape it.

Have no fear, Deco’s monthly concert forecast is here. It calls for variety with only a 20% chance of a jolly jingle.

Get ready to rock and to dance.

Bleachers, The Black Keys, and Jelly Roll are just some of the big names hitting the stage at this year’s Riptide Music Festival.

It’s all going down on Fort Lauderdale Beach, Dec. 2 and 3.

Two-day and single day ticket options are available. Just don’t forget to grab some sunscreen.

What’s better than one Bruno Mars concert? Two Bruno Mars concerts, of course.

The R&B superstar is playing back-to-back shows at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood on Dec. 7 and 8.

Just one catch though, no phones or smart watches allowed.

Let’s party like it’s 1998.

Miss Lauryn Hill is hitting the road to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her hit album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” and you know she’s just gotta come to Miami.

She’s not coming alone though. Her hip-hop trio, the Fugees, will be here too.

Catch them all at the Kasaya Center on Dec. 10.

Flo Rida and SoFlo? It’s just a match made in heaven.

Flo is just one of the many artists playing at this year’s Y-100 Jingle Ball. Ludacris and Marshmallo will be there too.

It’s all going down at the Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise on Dec. 16.

Deck the halls with LeAnn Rimes.

The country superstar is bringing her “Joy” holiday tour to the Adrienne Arsht Center’s Knight Concert Hall.

She’ll be performing both classic Christmas tunes and some of her original songs. Leann’s beating Kris Kringle to Miami by a couple of days.

This one’s happening on Dec. 21.

Stars of ‘Trolls: Band Together’ hit purple carpet at Los Angeles premiere of animated sequel https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/stars-of-trolls-band-together-hit-purple-carpet-at-los-angeles-premiere-of-animated-sequel/ Fri, 17 Nov 2023 03:17:58 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1382334 The stars were out in L.A. last night, and I’m not just talking about the ones in the sky! The cast of “Trolls: Band Together” banded together for a night out on the town … and a first look at their new movie.

Anna Kendrick (as Queen Poppy, voice): “Come on, guys, it’s time!”

Time to hit the red carpet, that is! Or, in this case, the purple one.

No trolling here. The cast of “Trolls: Band Together” cleaned up real nice for a special screening of the film in L.A.

Anna Kendrick (as Queen Poppy, voice): “I can’t believe this is really happening!”

And with a title like that, it’s only fitting to have a little NSYNC reunion. After all, the guys have a new song in the movie.

NSYNC: “If you let me show the way, I’m so excited to see you excited.”

Joey Fatone: “It was cool. You know, we were asked to be a part of it again. The song fits together with the whole storyline and everything else. It was like, why not? It was meant to be.”

Chris Kirkpatrick: “This is just something that the five of us get to do and hang out again, and when we’re back together, it’s just like old times.”

The guys from NSYNC weren’t the only boy band-ers in the house.

AJ McLean: “We have generations that still love boy bands, and the fact that that’s kind of the epicenter of this film is just genius.”

Joey Fatone: “It’s a fun throwback to a lot of different songs. Obviously, you got Backstreet Boys stuff, you got NSYNC. Every kind of boy band you could think of is in there. Exactly, even New Kids.”

Now that we’ve covered the music, we’ve gotta talk about the voices.

Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Zooey Deschanel are back for their third stint in the “Trolls” franchise.

Zooey Deschanel: “It’s fun. It’s colorful. It’s the characters we all love.”

Christopher Mintz-Plasse: “I just want people to go see it, and I feel like now you’re gonna have the kids go see it, and you’re gonna have all the moms who are big NSYNC fans, they’re going to go see it now. And hopefully, we can make a fourth one.”

Eric André is a newcomer to the “Trolls” universe, and he’s feeling pretty animated about the whole thing.

Eric André: “I love doing cartoons. I love the ‘Trolls’ franchise. It’s like there’s a ton of stuff for kids, obviously, but there’s, like, secret jokes for adults in it, which is the best cartoons.”

Eric André (as John Dory, voice): “We still got it.”

Anna Kendrick (as Queen Poppy, voice): “Looks like your band days aren’t behind you. Rrrr.”

“Trolls: Band Together” is now playing in theaters.

NightGarden’s 5th year at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden features more lights, new installations https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/nightgardens-5th-year-at-fairchild-tropical-botanic-garden-features-more-lights-new-installations/ Sat, 11 Nov 2023 04:20:33 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1380055 Dua Lipa once said, “Baby, you can find me under the lights,” and those are words I took to heart. Some people out there are already putting their Christmas lights up, but tonight, Deco’s looking to deck the halls in a different way. The NightGarden is back, and we’re dashing off to SoFlo’s own whimsical wonderland.

When the sun goes down in SoFlo, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in Coral Gables…

Archie the Talking Tree: “Welcome to the NightGarden. I’ve always wanted to say that on Deco Drive.”

…comes alive! The NightGarden is back for its fifth year.

Nannette Zapata: “When you step into NightGarden at Fairchild, you’re stepping into a wonderland. You’re stepping into an experience, an immersive experience.”

And it’s brighter than ever before.

Daniel Wu: “This year we have over two to three thousand different types of lights. And fun fact, this is the most lights there’s ever been for a NightGarden.”

NightGarden is known for its dazzling, colorful lights, and this year, there’s even more cool areas to explore.

Nannette Zapata: “We have about seven or eight new installations, new activations, including a fairy village.”

Daniel Wu: “There’s different triggers and special effects that, as you walk through it, you basically change the lighting.”

Dorothy’s yellow brick road has got nothing on this rainbow walkway.

Another new addition: the linear palm trees.

Daniel Wu: “From a distance, it looks like a pencil drawing, right? It looks like a line that comes down with our rope lights.”

It wouldn’t be the NightGarden without Archie, the famous talking tree

Archie the Talking Tree: “I’m not going anywhere. I’ve been around for 135 years.”

One hundred and thirty-five years? OK, drop the skin care routine!

Archie the Talking Tree: “Well, I use Oil of Olay. It can help you look younger, too. It’s great.”

Turns out, Archie is also a huge Deco Drive fan.

Archie the Talking Tree: “Lynn and Shireen, muchos besos y abrazos.”

Archie’s not the only returning favorite. The Rainbow Rainforest will make you feel like you’ve been transported to another world.

And these giant spinning lanterns are totally enchanting.

No wonderland is complete without a little adventure.

Nannette Zapata: “When you come to NightGarden at Fairchild, you find magic.”

And that’s where the Fairyscope app comes into play.

Daniel Wu: “It is an augmented reality app. You can download it once you’re on site, and then you’re on a scavenger hunt around the entire garden.”

Fairies, lights, magic, and Archie the Talking Tree?! Count me in!

The NightGarden is open now thru Jan. 7. Tickets start at $25.

Local chefs give sneak peek at dishes they’re featuring at 10th South Florida Seafood Festival https://wsvn.com/entertainment/deco-drive/local-chefs-give-sneak-peek-at-dishes-theyre-featuring-at-10th-south-florida-seafood-festival/ Fri, 10 Nov 2023 05:46:37 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1379704 Seafood is a delicacy here in SoFlo, and it’s not hard to sea why. Being surrounded by water has its perks, and one of them is the South Florida Seafood Festival. Here’s a sneak peek.

There’s no need to “go fish” at the South Florida Seafood Festival, because they’ve got plenty to go around.

Sarah Porter: “South Florida Seafood Festival is back for its 10th year in a row. It’s iconic, 10th-year anniversary, in the heart of Coconut Grove at Regatta Park. It’s an amazing, family-focused, community-centric event with a lot for everyone to see and do.”

This year’s event, presented by Swarm, features tons of live entertainment and over 30 seafood pop-ups serving up all kinds of delicious dishes from under the sea.

Samuel E. Wright (as Sebastian, singing): “Under the sea, under the sea!”

But it’s not just about eating and drinking.

Sarah Porter: “One really cool component that we have is called Kitchen Lab, where we have all kinds of chefs from all over South Florida on stage presenting some iconic dishes.”

One of those chefs is Ari Taymor from Pez Loco in Wynwood!

Chef Ari Taymor: “We take a lot of inspiration from the west coast of Mexico, and we like to filter that through the use of local Florida ingredients.”

Deco got a sneak peek of the dish he’ll be teaching folks how to make at the festival.

Chef Ari Taymor: “We’re gonna be demo-ing our Sinaloan shrimp cocktail. It’s very lightly oil-poached fresh Gulf shrimp and a green salsa made from different chilis, tomatillos and green onion.”

Add some avocado, and you’re good to go.

Chef Ari Taymor: “It’s something that is like a restaurant-quality dish, but it’s also created to allow people to make it at home. We want everybody to understand what we’re doing, to be able to share the food that we’re super passionate about, and we’re super excited for that.”

Over at Caja Caliente in Coral Gables, Chef Mika Leon is cooking up Cuban comfort food.

And she’s ready to share her food at the festival.

Chef Mika Leon: “I am extremely excited to be part of the seafood festival this weekend. We’re ready to showcase our seafood and just flavors that we grew up eating and that we make at the restaurant.”

That’s why she’s going with a classic for her Kitchen Lab presentation.

Chef Mika Leon: “I’m going to be making tostones rellenos de camarones enchilados. It’s using fresh shrimp, and it’s made in a sofrito tomato-based sauce, and it’s gonna be homemade tostones rellenos.”

Chef Mika puts it all together by stuffing the tostones with avocado and topping it all with the shrimp. Think of it as happiness in a little edible bowl.

Chef Mika Leon: “It’s something that’s very tropical, Miami, Cuban and authentic, and I think they’re really gonna enjoy it.”

Wanna make a splash this weekend? We’re giving away four VIP tickets to the South Florida Seafood Festival this Sunday, Nov. 12, at Regatta Park in Coconut Grove. For a chance to win, send your name and phone number to giveaways@wsvn.com.
